Title: Black Undershirts
Post by: raquetcat on January 19, 2012, 02:04:01 PM
We had a new guy start at my office. The dress code is business casual, dress pantsand a long sleeved stress shirt are pretty much the norm, anyway this guy wears a black undershirt consistently. The first day I thought ok maybe he got dressed in the dark or lost ask his white undershirts or something, but nope everyday black undershirt. this isn't normal right? Should I say something or just let him go on his losery way?

What color are the shirts he's wearing the black undershirt with? Very important.

very confusing first post from the OP.

he is a colleague of yours, you should probably consider starting to wear black undershirts yourself.  good grief.

It's pretty weird with a long sleeved dress shirt, though it could be okay depending on the color of the shirt.

Does it bleed through the dress shirt?

It doesn't bleed through, but we don't wear ties so you can see it where he has his top 2 buttons undone. That's right top two buttons! He wears it with every color of shirt, black, blue, purple, striped, etc.

Really, I would say the top 2 buttons being undone is a bigger deal than the black undershirt. It's not really a good look to see any undershirt above the buttons of a dress shirt.

2 buttons more offensive than color of undershirt. Black undershirt works with blacks and greys i guess. Striped? meh.

You really shouldn't wear any undershirt if you are going to leave the 2 top buttons undone.

He's also a rolled up sleeve guy, everyday long sleeved dress shirt sleeves rolled up to almost his elbows, I think our office temperature is pretty normal, maybe he thinks it looks like he's working harder, :dunno:

I'm a rolled up sleeves guy too. I don't like the sleeves being all up in my hands business.

Maybe I'm your co-worker?  :dunno:

I'm not suggesting everyone can pull it off, just that if you are going to leave your shirt unbuttoned, it's better to go all out than half ass it with an undershirt showing.

True, but everyone, including super good-looking and good-smelling and homosexuals like Tom Ford, looks like a dork if they try to pull that look off with an undershirt.

If you can't pull it off, just button up your shirt.
