I'm thinking 8-1 seems doable, maybe 7-2. We better win all the home games, hopeful for 4-1 on the road.
-
if we lose at home to any other South team we're taking a step toward a 7th seed or lower.
-
would take.
-
:NoPredictionsForFanning: :clac:
-
what is the expectation? 2nd place? top 4?
2nd place = 8-1
top 4 = 7-2
...we lose 3 (or more) and we're in trouble of not finishing in top 5.
on the other side of that is:
KU
@MU
@BU
ISU
@ A&M
OSU

Yeah. I hate the bad start to conference play again, but going 8-1 would make me forget all about that. I will completely lose it if we drop another game in Stillwater, though. A real 2008-you-just-got-Voskuiled type meltdown.

When was the last time we won in Stillwater?

How on earth is it more probable to win in Ames than Austin?
And I know Tech sucks, but an 88% chance of winning in Lubbock? :dubious:

the year was 1901, gas was just a penny a gallon.

Yes, this would be very disappointing. Problem is they will probably have the best player on the floor and you never know when that is the case, especially on the road.

Best player? Who? I saw OSU twice early on this year, and their entire team--including 9th-year senior The Boy Who Loved Clowns--looked like utter garbage.
That being said: seriously, when was the last time we won there?

I suppose a lot of that is based on potential. Nash is supposed to be really good. :dunno:
My senior year of high school; Ski/Beane/DC and Altman beat OSU in Stillwater. January 9th, 1993 in OT.

Oh man. Beane's team was really the last one I closely followed before the #1 recruiting class under wooly. Also, I loved when sutton said it was "bad judgment to headbutt that guy." it was a great "probably shouldn't have done that/he's a great kid" coachspeak moment.

Up until Beasley's year and then Pullen/Denis that was my favorite K-State team of my lifetime. Anthony Beane was also my favorite player. I loved that team and watching Altman go to 1-4 low sets with 10 seconds left on the 45 second clock and letting Beane work his magic.

Remember the frustration of watching SI's anointed "Mr. Clutch" not get the last shot in the tourney? Just emotionally crushing.

Sidenote on Frank's record during the confy reg season:
his fairly impressive 41-26 record becomes a little more interesting when you consider that against teams that are currently in the Big 12, he is only 29-22

.569 is still pretty good, but yeah.

Kind of handicapped in Stillwater last year without :ck:
Remember Judge was coming of good showings against cupcakes and got owned, ending all hope he'd ever amount to crap.

Away: 11-9 (Losses to Baylor, MU x4, OSU x2, aTm, TTU)
Frank is undefeated in Ames, Norman, and Austin. Also never lost at home to Mizzou, aTm, or Tech.
Overall record vs current B12 teams (including postseason)
Baylor: 3-3
ISU: 7-1
KU: 2-8
MU: 5-4
OU: 3-1
OSU: 2-3
aTm: 3-2

this is way way way way off subject but how weird is it that Fran Fraschilla's kid plays for OU???

None of this is relevant.
1. Different players
2. The league is abysmal this year compared to years past
Remember, aTm, OSU, OU, UT all used to be good. None of those teams could beat Drake this season

he's not really good, fan. he's not the best player on that team, even after subtracting olukemi from the equation.

Just throwing it out there.
Also, regardless of players / teams having up or down years, Frank is 0-4 in Columbia, and KSU is 0-11 in Stillwater since 1993.
Just take the info fwiw

the comforting part about all of this is, barring a complete meltdown, we'll be in the tournament. :dunno:

True story: A young uwcatfan and his family had just moved to NC from KS, and my godfather mailed us the tape of this game. We watched it as a family on a Friday night (a week after it happened) and I told my dad "This is better than the movies." Also, I remember the game recap from the AP wire called us the "Cardiac Cats." Ah, pre-internet days...
-
yes i remember the cardiac cats as well. beane had like 1000 buzzer beaters that year.
-
I'm chalking up stillwater as another loss at this point. Probably Ames, too. Sweeping Tech still looks likely, as does crapping away a home game versus OU, Texas or A&M. Went from hoping for 7-1 or 6-2 to expecting 5-3 at best and bracing for 4-4.
After that, I'm just gonna assume losses at Texas, Baylor, Mizzou, and at home versus KU during the last 7 games. We may be pushing to finish at .500 in conference. Does that get us in the tourney?
-
if we don't finish 10-8 or better, then no ncaa tourney. which means, at 1-3, we'll have to go 9-5.
Losses: @ BU, @MU
Likely Losses: @ UT, @ ISU, @ A&M, @ OSU
Winnable: @ TT , KU, UT, ISU, A&M, OSU, OU
Wins: TT
seems like a lot to expect out of this team. plus, frank probably isn't done "teaching". and jacob pullen isn't walking through that door to save our ass.

Me, being the crazy sunshine pumper I am, would still keep @TT in the Wins column.

Aren't you all overreacting. . . just a little?!?!?!

i won't count road games as wins. i suppose we did win @ VT a month ago. i wouldn't argue that classification. coming off the @ OSU loss might be tough for the team though. what with their feelings hurt and them running stairs for 2 hours.

Christ, stop being so reactionary.
@GaryParrishCBS: Last year's Final Four teams were a combined 23-24 in road games. In other words, this happens in this sport. Blog: http://bit.ly/xV3xFi (http://bit.ly/xV3xFi)
@GaryParrishCBS: Here's the breakdown of FF teams in road games last year: UK (3-7), UConn (5-5), VCU (8-6), Butler (7-6). Duke won 2010 title. 5-5 on road.

i'm sure nebraska's road record sucked too. just sayin'

i'll stand up for zacker on this one. the fact that good/successful teams have been mediocre on the road and does not mean that all teams that are mediocre on the road are good/will be successful, which i'm sure was his point.
