Title: Cotton Bowl
Post by: kso_FAN on January 04, 2012, 08:59:56 AM
Offense:
1. Duel run threats. We must have decent games from both Klein and Hubert. 4.5ish YPC. Around 200 total, I'm sure we'll get some from other places; probably a bit from Pease/Wildcat, a reverse or two to Smith/Harper.

2. Efficient passing. A spectacular game from Klein would be great, but efficient is fine. Above average 8.5 or so yards per attempt. 20-25 attempts and hit 60% of the throws. A couple big plays downfield to Harper.

3. Don't turn it over and keep field position on our side.

Defense:
1. Stop the run. We can't let Ark's big back get going. If we can keep them at less than 4.0 yards per carry and 120ish yards we'll be in good shape.

2. Limit big plays in the passing game. Wilson and Ark's good receivers will get yards, just keep it within reason. The Cats get in trouble when we let YPA get above 10, we can live with YPA around 9 or so. Tackle and try to keep down big YAC yardage.

3. Turn them over. We need to be plus, hopefully +2/3 in TO margin.

Special teams:
1. Keep the big plays neutral. We need to at least match Ark's big plays in the return game, then hopefully get a block or something to turn field position in our favor.

2. Set up points. Either defense or special teams needs to set up K-State in scoring position, hopefully we can get 10-14 points this way.

This game likely is a high scoring game, similar to Baylor. I'm thinking a first to 35/40 type game to win it.

Man from that list it  seems like an awful lot has to go our way to win.   :dunno:

This team has a nack for making things go our way. We probably don't have to do all of them, but against teams like Arkansas those are things that we've had to do to win.

Would like: a Kick return for a TD and at least 3 Ints or Fumble recoveries.  Cantelle needs to hit 80% of his kicks.

K-State will get 21 quick points then only score 3 in the 2nd half.  The Hogs win this one 38-24.

I would be highly surprised if K-State only manages 3 second half points. In the nine Big 12 games, in only 4 second half quarters (3rd or 4th quarter) did K-State fail to score points. And in 13 of 18 they scored at least a touchdown. The Cats also averaged over 15 points in the 2nd half in 9 Big 12 games.
