Title: Insomnia
Post by: 420seriouscat69 on December 28, 2011, 01:36:00 AM
Any of you have problems with this? It usually happens to me when I have a lot on my mind. It's a bitch. Thoughts/remedies?  :dunno:

LOL, I'm going to dominate this thread.  While nicname was creating a thread about being an insomniac, I'd been reading old high school yearbooks for an hour.  If that doesn't say "weirdo that never goes to sleep" I don't know what does.

If you have insomnia and are still in college, you either need to drink more, get laid more, or both.

I've developed a terrible sleeping pattern. I stay up past 2 or so, then sleep till around 6 or so. Wake up and bullshit around, take a nap. Then I can't go to sleep until 2 the next night. I could legitimately be working all day and still not go to sleep until 2 or 3 and be up again by 6 or 7.

I think because of ability to run productively on minimum amounts of sleep, I think I could really be a good recruiter. Could really maximize those texts and calls.

I usually just lay down and go down the wormhole of thinking about random stupid crap and going on weird tangents (similar to youtube wormholing) and then I'm awake for three hours for no reason.  4+ drinks seems to fix this.

i have a terrible time getting to sleep unless physically exhausted, leads to me being mentally tired quite often during the week.  once asleep though, boy i can snooze for HOURS.

i'm also much more of a night person.  i had a few months where i was unemployed, which pretty much lead me to developing what i would consider a more natural sleep pattern for me.  consisted of going to bed around 11am usually, and waking up around 8pm or so, it was fantastic.

When I was at ole EMAW U I would go to sleep every night at about 4am, wake up at 8am to go to my 8:30, go to work until 1pm, take a nap until 4pm, go to my night class until about 9pm, then go to second work until about midnight. Then I would take from midnight until 4am to study/homework or do whatever I wanted.

I don't really do that anymore...

Two types of people who can't sleep: 1. can't sleep because they truly don't need it and 2. can't sleep because they are weird and need to do something during the day that causes them use more energy so they are sleepy at night.

The first type need to find a way to turn that into cash.  Work on something and get awesome at it.

The second type need more stress in their life.

Same here. All my life I've been able to fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow. Not so much this year. Can't stop thinking about how great it'd be to run the opening kickoff back for a TD during our next game, then get a pick 6 two plays after that. And the NC gets me so fired up that my heart starts racing and I can't relax enough to fall asleep. December is going to be the longest month ever.

Since we sleep in cycles, it depends on how many cycles you tend to go through while you sleep. How many hours do you usually sleep? Is it closer to 6, or 7 1/2, or more?

I have always been the same way. Nothing worse than trying like hell to fall asleep when you know you have a big event in the morning, but you just can't stop thinking about the most trivial stuff. Anyway I've only been using it a week, so it could be a placebo, and might not work for everyone. But it's only $5 at target for 60 pills so worth trying. The biggest thing it does is help you regulate your sleep schedule.  Basically it's the hormone that tells your body to go to sleep.

I'm #TeamAmbien all the way! Had some mild insomnia in my earlier years, but got that straightened out and am now #team8hours. Still take an Ambien once or twice a week to keep my schedule right.

Side note: Just moved to OP and am looking for a doctor to switch to...eventually i'm going to run out of my current scrip and will need to get another. Any suggestions or EMAW doctors on here? TIA

trim is a doctor but might not be that kind of doctor idk.

I have been exhausted the last several days, but as I post now it is almost midnight.  I literally am more sleepy during the day than I am right now, is this insomnia? Also takes me about an hour to fall asleep if I even do that.

Any of you have problems with this? It usually happens to me when I have a lot on my mind. It's a bitch. Thoughts/remedies?  :dunno:

Try to avoid screen time (TVs, computers, etc.) for at least an hour before you try to go to sleep. Don't work out within about 2-3 hours of going to bed. Don't eat meals or drink any caffeine within 3-4 hours of bedtime. Reading a book can help divert your attention and make you drowsy. Taking a hot shower can raise your body temp, and the subsequent drop in body temperature will make you drowsy. Doing breathing exercises can also lower stress levels, which should help you keep your mind from fixating on the worries of the day (http://healthland.time.com/2012/10/08/6-breathing-exercises-to-relax-in-10-minutes-or-less/ (http://healthland.time.com/2012/10/08/6-breathing-exercises-to-relax-in-10-minutes-or-less/) #1 and/or #5 should help). Melatonin in low doses can be effective (large doses can leave you feeling pretty mumped up in the morning), but there aren't really any reliable studies on whether there are long term side affects or not. Get a white noise machine, it really helps. Also, use your bedroom only for rough ridin' and sleeping if at all possible, our bodies tend to subconsciously associate some of our more frequent hangouts with certain activities. The fewer activities you do in your room, the more likely it is that your body will associate your room with sleep. I try and do all of these things on a regular basis, and I don't ever seem to have a problem with a wandering mind keeping me up anymore.

I should probably go to bed. It's a great oppy for me to get back on a regular sleep schedule. Have to be up at 7 AM tomorrow, and only slept 3.5 hours last night (see pizza thread).

The last time I ran any sort of distance was for a mock FBI fitness test thing in undergrad (that was at least three years ago). I got beat by a 50+ year old ex-Nubb track athlete in both the distance run and the sprint, but I totally crushed his ass in the push-ups and sit-ups. I'm going back to reading my book.
