Peggy Po's:
#teamangel: A complete performance 13 points 7:3, pg duties against a press. I even came up with a nicnme: Angelito "No Joda" Rodriguez! When Angelito does something good, I think we should all scream "NO JODA!" A true step forward for him. His confidence breaking their press was outstanding. Completely superior to Will in his backcourt decision making wth the ball. Threw a very nice oop. Did not get many calls when he attacked the hips of alabama defenders for blocking fouls (look who's been watching jake/denis tape) but the calls eventually came and he was very strong on the ball given the pressure. Did he make a few bad passes? Yes. Frank then yelled at him and it made me feel better about it because it makes me think the frankination has begun. I hope everyone never questioned my motivations. I hate because I love. It is the kind of dysfunctionality that Frank fans trade in as parents, lovers, friends and fans.
Handling the press- tons of credit to Frank and co. They did a commendable job breaking down bama's press. The bigs played with confidnce and outside of shane southwell everyone was calm and knew what to do bama lost the TO battle 14-18! No bigger indictment of their press than that. Jamar played very cool dribbling when the pressure was in the pssing lanes off him, just very effective all around. . Clearly Anthony is a big fan of peggy po's/nancy neg's and knows that this author has questioned the ability of this year's hoops team to handle pressure. Side note: they killed bama's zone even when they were not hitting 3's.
JO!!- I said/squeaked that a few times. Sure he had the third or fourth best oop of the game (shout out to bama, you put on a show /condescendingnonracistheadpatpraise). Maybe it was the different location of th scoreboard and the much improved second half pace, but I was shocked when I looked up ad saw he had 11.
Sprads is Sprads son- sprads doing sprads thinss. Hit a 3, 5:1, 3 steals.
Jamar- this is who he is. Up down Up down. This team is going to be an absolute bitch for teams to play. It just will not be fun. Saying/typing dax thoughts about our offense misses the point. This team will destroy your offense. All day. All day. Jamar is an enormous part of this and when he keeps his head he is a performer. I really enjoyed Jamar's game. Solid effort.
VIC!- maybe his best minutes ever. A legitimately huge momentum bucket, solid D and then the most LOL 3pt att ever. That just slayed me. Saw Jamar do it, had just put back a 2 footer and he had to just be like "eff it, I'm hot!" Not even mad baxter etc. Etc.
Tay tay- getting shots, able to penetrate and playing disciplined ball, did not hit his 3. Solid performance. Decent D. These guards aren't complete crap. Feels good!
The 2nd half coast- got some fun digs in at Anthony Grant about heading back to the mid-majors. Wife left early bcause she toldme to leave him alone and I didn't, but she waited for me in the concourse and did not divorce me.
Frank Franking the team then getting a rebound performance like this.
Good crowd- Thanks KC for hosting a wonderful event and to all you cat hoops fan for coming and getting loud!
Tunnel dance! Really appreciated the complete lack of pre-tense about this being a home game. I hope everyone is enjoying tay, because I don't know we will ever see this level of confidence from a tunnel dancer again. He went around and used the additionl space to show off the hnd shakes he'd been working on with the guys? Jesus. We may need to send White Tiger off for some seasoning as a HC at some JUCO we can place kids at and bring tay on as a grad asst./tunnel dance choreographer. Could not be any more pleased with tay's efforts and I hope people know they are watching a youngster at the absolute peak of his game. JO had some swag that clearly led to some good things. Diaz's lock pick has gained steam and is an early favorite to disappointingly replace tay tay. Would really enjoy Sprads doing the worm or "No Joda" and Diaz dancing a quick bachata.
Nancy Neg's-
Green- he put his whole self in our butt, He was able to single-handedly be bama's o-rebs. He was a terrifying monster of good. Is this a preview of t-rob DOB'ing our asses and kicking sprads into the hoop trying to take a charge in the circle for an and 1, putting back bunnies and in general owning our perceived strength? Well gip, we're getting to you.
Gipson- his lack of hops/length/athleticism was exposed real hard. He won't have too many other teams like this, but Baylor, KU could be big troubs. He just looked lost out there when his strong defensive stance was getting scored on. Was not able to push his man off the block and couldn't defend away from the hoop when he did, also is still struggling with his help D although it was better and he got a couple blocks. #teamgipson for carrying the team when Jamar and JO couldn't. This is why hving 3 guards capable of handling the ball and 3 bigs is huge.
McOrebs- disappointing effort. Zero McOrebs. No scrappy putbacks, no adorable things to smile about. Just an anonymous Southmeh esque game. Worried about the lack of spring and energy.
South-meh. I see the value, but nearly any achievement at this point just makes me sad about McOress. I will hencefort drp any petense of objectivity. I wish his sex eyes produced more sexy hoop play instead of getting all googly when there is open space on the floor for him to dribble in to (troubs).
McGruder- This post is about mourning the death of a dream. I have a candle burning Rod. My heart will go on, but not without some serious pain. The 3 balls rent coming back are they? We knew you weren't going to be a vocal leader, but what the hell happened to the swag? You missed a game winning 3 at CU last year by miliseconds. The ball was in your hands, there was little doubt who was taking the shot, you nailed an absurd look, I mean what the hell happened? Can a non-booster student hold a #cheeruppete #peteinspires type shindig that ends with some happy times for Rod?

Amazed at how few turnovers we had before slopfest of the final minutes. Maybe because some of them were so bad/hilarious, thought we had a lot more. And two, we seemed to be on the razor's edge many times with the press: So close to a turnover or picking the ball up in a bad place, but somehow made the play. They knew the concept and the execution worked, but it wasn't a thing of beauty and I'm sure kept Bama confident the press would eventually pay off.
Rotation was pretty pared. Would think Frank will go deeper in Hawaii to keep players fresh.

i certainly don't listen to reggaeton; i've talked with a variety of south americans, though not a representative from every country/accent/dialect, and none of them went around saying "no joda".
-
new thought. maybe you aren't good at spelling?
-
Green is a senior and a McDAA. So yeah, it was kind of a thomas robinson preview.
-
It will be a miracle if we are not totally raped in AFH

Draw a venn diagram of the regaton listeners, the kinds of people that go around saying no joda and the people that you've taked to.

not really. I think this year's team will be frank's best at JYC'ing the eff out of games like this. So don't be surprised if it's a relatively close loss.

just imagine three non-overlapping circles.

Maybe i'm wearing some purple blinders here but I'm not convinced KU is that good...that said, we're not that good, but I think we are making significant strides. I wouldn't be overly shocked if we beat KU twice this year. :dunno:

Your commitment to the PPs/NNs series is incredible. Thanks for all your hard work.
-
These keep keeping better and better. Good job Tortuga.

No Joda
:dubious:
-
Angel was a PP
JO was a PP
NN: Gip hurling the ball at the rim repeatedly.
NN: McOReb still is, I don't know.
Another PP: Overall Defense and Assists
-
It's going to be hard for any team to beat us badly. Even when we can't buy a shot, we still play crazy hard on defense. And if/when we have a 35-40% shooting night from 3 we can/will embarrass people.
I agreed that this could be Frank's best JYC team yet.

jfc, guys, let's not get ahead of ourselves. this was just alabama (basically at home). our defensive stats through 8 games aren't any better than the past 2 years but our Efg, Eff, and PPP are. To act like we aren't going to get run @ AFH or @ Meth is absurd. Or rather, to act like this team doesn't have it in them to run is absurd. They do. Moreso than the past 2 years.
-
These are becoming a hit. I am so jealous KK. So jealous.

JFC, I just was saying it won't take a miracle for us to "not get raped" at KU. Are you sure the defensive stats aren't any better through 8 games? I really have no idea.

Really, all the guards looked pretty good. Was impressed with Angel and Sprads on ball D.
-
Kind of touched on this on another thread but I wouldn't consider Jamar, up and down, I actually think he is fairly consistent, the variables are whether the shots are falling and whether or not he's drawing fouls. His FG attempts are very steady.
-
Just disappointing that jam never learned a real offensive game in the post. Still a solid contributor though

just because he hasn't learned the offensive game you want to see doesn't mean it's not a real offensive game.
-
the Jamar hater reminds me a lot of the Angel hater in that they are both complete dumbfucks.
-
I recommend putting "listening to Frank Martin coaching a basketball game" on your bucket list. Highly entertaining.

I think it is fair to say what you said, but having your shots fall (points) is one of those key indicators I like to look at.

Whenever a player mumped up, he'd tell the player he subbed in to "GET MARTAVIOUS/SHANE/JAMAR" out of the game"
"I set up 2 screens for you and you couldn't get open. 2 screens" - to Angel
"I trusted you, and you let me down" - to Shane after he couldn't inbound the ball
Nothing really noteworthy that he said, just the way he acted. I'd love how he stared down a player and they wouldn't say anything, or attempt to look back at him. Seemed to rip on Angel the most.

good stuff, saul.

i'm confused. saul, is this the first time you've watched frank martin coach a basketball game?
-
Oh man! I'd rather coach be mad at me than disappointed!
-
PP: Marty's short range jumper.

yes, from my vantage point I can't see Frank coach. Can see the other teams coach fairly well.

Well obviously. I was referring to where and how he is getting the shots from. Missing layups is frustrating (for most, honestly I'm meh about it) but, I'd rather he be missing layups than 15 foot jumpers.
-
With about 8 mins to go in game, Sprads recovering extremely well against backdoor cut by Lacey, deflects pass, leads to steal, in that same sequence right up the floor, Lacey tries to get in passing lane on wing pass to Sprads, Lacey is a step late, Sprads takes a couple dribbles to get within about 12 ft and knocks home floater off the glass.
It was almost like 5* McD AA Lacey was thinking, "I'll show this 3* chump how to play the passing lanes!" Not this time Trev, not this time.
All the more impressive considering Sprads had a pretty bad case of the runs, JYC Will
-
My bad, Lacey was NOT a McD AA, but Rivals did have him tabbed as a 5* prospect.
-
Damn, I didn't even realize they had a guy named Lacey. Could've been really funny for some elites here.

i used to always try to sit behind the bench, when possible.
my favorite was when martin pulled sutton out of the game after his hands fell short of a house, then stomped down to where sutton sat down and yelled at him - "good players catch the ball!", then stomped back up to his diet beverage. he held his hands ball distance apart with a simulated cradle grip to help sutton visualize how he should have caught the ball.
