Title: Advanced stats vs Bama (official)
Post by: kso_FAN on December 18, 2011, 12:00:03 AM
1st   Pace   PPP   eFG%   TO%   OR%   FTR
KSU   29   0.89   34.8%   13.8%   43.5%   21.2%
Opp   29   0.83   50.0%   34.4%   30.8%   28.6%

2nd   Pace   PPP   eFG%   TO%   OR%   FTR
KSU   34   1.32   68.4%   29.3%   57.1%   136.8%
Opp   34   1.00   43.9%   23.5%   14.3%   18.2%

Total   Pace   PPP   eFG%   TO%   OR%   FTR
KSU   64   1.11   47.1%   22.0%   50.0%   63.5%
Opp   64   0.91   46.3%   28.3%   19.5%   22.2%

Once again the Cats managed to double their eFG% in half #2 and had a ridiculous 2nd half FT rate of >100%.

A dominance in the JYC stats against a fellow JYC team. A differencial of 30% in OR% and 40% in FT rate against Bama makes me feel warm and cozy inside.

#teamangel kicks up our feet and relishes a breakthrough game for the youngster. #teamjo isn't feeling too bad either. Heck, #teamirving is doing alright (even after a pretty bad first 5 minutes). A little disappointment on #teammcgruds and #teamgip. McGruds has to snap out of it sometime, right?

Nevertheless, its good to be purple tonight.

can that ftr even be accurate?  that doesn't seem possible.

Quote
Kellis Robinett @KellisRobinett 11m
Martin on what he liked most about offensive turnaround: "I went into halftime feeling good. Missing shots didn’t affect our discipline."

Even though I was frustrated with the offense (mainly missed shots), I thought the same. It was significant to hold a lead because we consistently played good defense in the first half even when things looked really bleak on the offensive end.

You can theoretically have a FTR of infinity if you don't make a field goal.

Yep. Took 19 shots and had 26 FT attempts (and made 73%!).

i guess i was thinking it was calculated off possessions.

love the stayed the course/kept chopping wood comments on offense defense from Frank.

Had a lot of good shots that didn't start to drop till the second half.  nice to see the lid get off the basket finally.

Shooting 3s maybe, but overall not really. I like what he's doing.

Didn't think they were ever going to stop those baseline cuts and drives that 'Bama was killing us with.  Limited them to doing that maybe twice in the 2nd half.

_Fan,

How do the stats look for Jamar? It's very difficult to watch him play in the low post and his game down there doesn't pass the eye test. I know he was a stud in the FT category last night, and that all well and good.

Am I looking at this wrong? Is he playing in a more efficient and effective manner than I'm giving him credit for?

Probably. Jamar actually has the 2nd best offensive rating on the team behind Sprads. Yes, just slightly better than Gip. He is just a really unconventional better, so it's hard to categorize him. As much as Frank gets frustrated with him, he really plays JYCBB as well as any big Frank has had.

He's not unconventional at all, its just that dumb combo fanners expect him to dunk the ball every time he touches it.  He can hit a mid range jumper, he is average with his back to the basket, can put the ball on the floor if he has the right matchup and is a good offensive rebounder, pretty much standard for most undersized fours.

Decent odds I'm going to get into a fist fight with someone before the season is over who shouts "MAN DUNK IT GOD!!!" when he and/or JO catches the ball.  If I spent more time in section 17 it would almost be a guarantee, better for me to sit with the old people in section 10.

Why is sitting in 17 and getting in a fistfight a bad thing?

What was Alabama's DR%?  (Dunk Rate)  Probably like a million.

their dunkfest reminded me of that game.

He doesn't need to dunk it every time but it would be nice if he didn't look like a puppet being controlled by strings by some guy in the rafters every time he goes up for a shot.  I don't think that's asking too much  :dunno:

if people didn't inexplicibly think that samuels is much more talented than he is, they wouldn't say such stupid things about his finishing rate and style.

That's why I call him unconventional. One of his biggest skills is simply playing really hard. He isn't a back to the basket post, but he's not really a face up player either. When he scores it comes from a large variety of ways; a few FTs, a few jumpers, an occasional 3, some put backs, a few post moves in the paint, and some transition baskets. And all that varies (often greatly) from game to game. But he almost always plays hard and is solid on defense. I like watching him play.

That's why his top end games make for amazing highlight reels.  If he were strictly a post up player or a jump shooter, I think people would recognise a good game for what is was rather than some glimpse of greatness. I mean, his OSU Dr Pepper highlights look like Beaz highlights.  That messes with people.  They start hoping for "consistency".
