and K-State sold their allotment to season ticket holders and students before we knew what game we were going to.

Mich has only sold 13,000....interesting that the most expensive Sugar Bowl ticket is $185 and our most expensive ticket was $200. I think when the smoke clears the Cotton Bowl will be the biggest winner of all.
University of Michigan has fewer than 3,500 tickets left for fans who want to attend to Sugar Bowl on Jan. 3.
In two days, the school has sold more than 14,000 of its 17,500 allotted tickets.
That's about 80 percent of the university's tickets.
Some 13,000 of those tickets were sold on Monday, the first day sales opened.
Steve Lambright, director of ticket operations for the university's athletic department, says ticket sales for the Wolverines and Virginia Tech match in New Orleans are expected to remain high for the next few days.
"Typically you get your biggest push the first couple of days and then sales start to wind down after that," he said in an interview from New Orleans, where he and other athletic department officials were checking out team practice facilities and team hotels and meeting with the Sugar Bowl committee for the first time.
Student tickets are $97 apiece, but prices go all way to $185 a ticket.
"The most expensive ticket was $185, but we didn’t get a lot of those," Lambright said. "That price level is sold out."
Student tickets are still available.
A few non-University of Michigan tickets to the bowl, held at the New Orleans Superdome, are available. The stadium's capacity is about 76,000.
On StubHub, the lowest price ticket for the Sugar Bowl is listed at $120 (consistent the lowest price of tickets sold on the Sugar Bowl website). The highest price, for a luxury suite, is $19,995. After that, a few sideline tickets are listed at $2,999.
More than 5,500 tickets are available for purchase on the website.
-
How many tickets are available for the other BCS bowls?
-
I imagine you could probably score a ticket to dress out and play for LSU or Bama. No one is really going to that game.

How the eff did these guys get selected over ANYONE with their history of ticket sales? What a joke.
By the way, went to the TiQ site and tickets for the sugar bowl can be had for $128....cheapest cotton ticket - $231. This guy is full of crap.

Dennis Dodd said it was because they didn't want to select a new team they hadn't had before what with all this BCS Title Game nonsense they'll be doing a week later. I'm sure that means somebody was paid off under the table.

It's harder to enjoy the love when it's so rough ridin' costly to the university. Is it a better match up? Yes. Better location for our fans? Yes. But the financial ramifications for our school and our conference are substantial.

I still haven't completely got over the 169/170 thing. I really, really melted down about that.

I bet all of you "I'm not butthurt" types like Huggs.
Buncha clowns.
-
I'm pretty butt hurt about it and have no problem admitting it.
-
I am incredibly butthurt.
I just watched us lose a chance to DOMINATE a team who really has no business in a BCS bowl, let alone the top 25. What did we get in return? A chance to DOMINATE a team who has no business in the cotton (gross) bowl, let alone the top 50.

I wanted to play Michigan real bad. I work with about 50 Michigan fans.

Can't understand how we can feel butthurt about Sugar Bowl. I mean yeah, the numbers say we should have got it. The talking heads think we should have got it. But there were just too many epic wins this year to even care. Miami, Baylor, A&M..... and EKU.
I mean seriously, we almost lost to EKU. The Cotton Bowl is a rough ridin' miracle.

Seriously Abe? So if you started at a company sweeping floors and worked your ass off for 40 years up the ladder, finally getting your shot at pres of the company and the boss passes you over to hire is 24 year old son, you're gonna say "man, i'm so lucky. i started out sweeping floors, i should just be thankful to have a job"??? I'd say that would make you a loser, Abe. No disrespect.
We deserved the rough ridin' Sugar Bowl I don't care how rough ridin' close EKU played us.

Just wanted to clear that up.

Actually I was pretty pissed off about that too until an hour or so ago. Currie was on with BITB and talked about how it's not much of a financial windfall anymore. It used to be huge, but they changed the rules for conferences that get 2 schools into the BCS. His example was that if one team in the BCS gets $22 million, the second school only gets like $6 million. After you get done paying travel costs, etc. and then split the remainder 10 ways, it's not that much more than going to a non-BCS bowl. It's more...but it's not significantly more.
-
I'm butthurt, but the amazing BBS'ing over the last few days has helped make up for it. I doubt we achieve this level of BBS'ing if we were playing against Michigan or Virginia Tech.

I'm butthurt mostly bc I wanted to beat michigan. Now we are going to get cosh'd by pigaggie

I've been saying it all along..."One of these days, these ridiculous godamned surcharges on these tickets is going to cause someone on the campus of VaTech to shoot a cop and flee on foot." And damned if it didn't happen JUST the way I said it would.

You can't blame the Sugar Bowl for picking the Hokies...I mean it's about selling tickets and if my other option was K-state, I'd pick Va Tech every time. They will do a much better job of filling the seats than a bunch of cornfed Midwesterners who don't even know what a bowl game is because their program has no tradition. Just ask the Pinstripe Bowl!

Having listened to Baker speak, I know that the 1997 Cotton Bowl was potentially the very last Cotton Bowl. When he says they were on the ropes, he means it literally. The Cotton Bowl was going under.
Helicopters never were used much to detail news of the Cotton Bowl. Television crews assigned to the game always had enough cameras on the ground for action and interviews. But when choppers were sent to track Kansas State football fans flocking to the 1997 Classic, Rick Baker knew his football game was saved.
“We didn’t have a Southwest Conference champion anymore, we didn’t get in the BCS and we lost our title sponsor, Mobil,’’ recalled the Cotton Bowl president. “We were on the ropes.’’
Then, K-State was extended its first invitation to the tradition-rich game for a clash against BYU. Baker watched as TV coverage showed caravans of K-State fans with everything purple affixed to their vehicles. For him, the accounts were as riveting as O.J.’s chase. “K-State started a streak of well-attended games that got us back,’’ Baker said. About 40,000 K-State fans were estimated in Dallas to ring in the New Year in 1997.

Don't tell me how well K-State travels, why don't you tell the Sugar Bowl. Oh, wait. They already looked at your program and decided it wasn't good enough for a Sugar Bowl invite. Insult me all you want, the point is you are an undesirable program to BCS bowls.

Not sure where this goes. Too lazy to read through all the other threads, SIAP.
The Tigers have sold about 2,000 of its allotted 11,000 tickets to the Independence Bowl, team spokesman Chad Moller said. Because of low demand and the game's Dec. 26 date, the MU Alumni Association decided against sponsoring its usual bowl trip to Shreveport and is instead offering a one-day round-trip charter flight from Columbia.

I agree. I preordered 13 Cotton bowl tix and only 6 Sugar Bowl tix....it's just so much more difficult to get to. That said, I think we could have outsold what VT is doing. I will guarantee you there have been significantly more than 14,100 tix sold to KSU fans. We will likely have 25K+ at the game.

K-State would have sold their 17.5K allotment within 2 days of the announcement. There might have been less total fans in attendance than at the Cotton Bowl, but I have no doubt that we would have sold the allotment.

The ACC Championship student tickets were snatched up within an hour of going on sale, so why has Virginia Tech only sold about half of their Sugar Bowl ticket allotment?
The Hokies are headed to New Orleans on January 3rd for their 19th straight bowl game. While the team’s at-large bid sparked much controversy, there is no question that a significant deciding factor was based on the huge following Hokie fans bring. Ticket sales are not currently a reflection of this notion.
Students packed their cars, booked hotel rooms, and fought to get tickets to the ACC Championship on December 3rd. All of this hard work, however, seemed like a waste after the Hokies were blown out by Clemson 38 to 10.
After such a disappointing game in Charlotte, are students and fans confident in spending even more time and money to travel much farther to New Orleans?
Dane Neer, a senior at Tech says he is not letting the ACC loss discourage him from making the 13-hour trip.
“I mean, it makes me hesitant to be 100-percent confident about the bowl game, but I think that the need to prove themselves on a national stage (well, again) should at least make it a good game on January 3rd,” he said.
Neer said he has also been making the effort to go to many away games throughout the season, and doesn’t see a reason to stop with this game.
“I've been to every home game this year, the UVa game, and the ACC Championship, so I really wanted to be a part of the crowd when I could be,” said Neer.
Some students have a bad taste in their mouth, others don’t have the money, and some just don’t have the time. While Coach Beamer has been urging fans to buy tickets, for many students, that may not happen. Regardless, Hokie students and fans will be sure to tune into the game from wherever they are on January 3rd.

Virginia Tech isn’t the only team in the country having trouble selling BCS bowl game tickets. At the Orange Bowl, West Virginia’s ticket office said it has sold 7,000 of its 17,500 tickets. Clemson’s ticketing office said the Tigers had sold 5,600 as of Monday.
But Wisconsin, Oregon, Oklahoma State and Stanford have either sold out or are close to selling out their ticket allotments for BCS bowl games. Kansas State officials reported Monday the Wildcats have sold more than 14,000 tickets to this year’s Cotton Bowl.

starting to think we would have had as many or more fans at the sugar bowl just simply because tickets would be that much easier to get plus its a new destination/bowl game for us. i for one would have definitely gone to new orleans but won't be going to dallas purely because of ticket access.

could be worse.....
UNLV Nevada is having MAJOR ticket sale issues
Nevada isn't sure how many of its fans plan to show up for the Hawaii Bowl, but if the phone sales are any indication, it's not many: As of Sunday evening, the Wolf Pack had sold just 10 tickets through phone sales. Yeah, 10. And Virginia Tech was getting a ribbing for its lack of ticket sales.
Of course, about 600 people are on the pass list, which is usually reserved for family and friends of players, coaches and staff and Nevada is unsure how many fans have purchased tickets online because those sales go through the Hawaii Bowl website.
This isn't that big of a surprise. The Hawaii Bowl is always a tough sell because it's far, expensive and played on Christmas Eve. When the Wolf Pack played in the game in 2009, only about 150-250 people showed up.

"Yes, and that exposure for the program helps in things like recruiting, which helps bring even better players to Clemson. Players that will help Clemson consistently win and get to bowl games and lose more money."

The Sugar Bowl overnight of 6.3 is down 11% from last year. Through 3 BCS games, ESPN is about even with last year (8.44 to 8.48).
