Title: Eastern Shore Peggy Po's/Nancy Neg's
Post by: Kat Kid on November 22, 2011, 10:23:22 PM
I'm turning this one over to the steve's and #teamangel.  I'm in denver's C terminal TSC'ing my ass awaiting a connection to Vegas.
Would love to hear some details from the game!

Jamar:  how did he look?  Knee ok?   Get the start?

Gip:  tell #teamgip all the wonderous and strong post moves he displayed

JO:  did he...you know...  Also, off the dribble?

Martavious:  lost?

Sprads neds no update because he is aways sprads.

McOreb get his shot back?

Yada yada yada.  Need a full report!

pps = ar-t, gippy.  nns = wgaf?

samuels looked as big as a house.  jhr looked like he'd never heard of the concept of dunking on bitches.

Peggy Po's:  See 2nd half.
Nancy Neg's:  See 1st half.

Judging from the score differentials in the two halves, you would think we played much better in the 2nd than we did in the 1st, but that was not necessarily the case. UMES couldn't miss from 3 early and we had several very make-able shots not fall (38% from the field in the 1st).

Good to see Frank and the boys keep their composure. I wouldn't have guessed being tied with 6 minutes left in the 1st that we would win by 42. It appears from the early games we are a much better 2nd half team (through 3 games we are -2 in the 1st half, and +62 in the 2nd), which is understandable considering we are young and Frank likes to play a deep bench.

I think the young guys are still discovering their roles, but seem to be adapting well and progressing offensively and defensively. We may be a tough team to handle come Big 12 play, though I see us being manhandled by superior athletic teams. Color me mildly optimistic.

NNs, samuels finishing at the rim. Still cant (2-8 and one FG was a 3). And 3 rebounds in 25 minutes whoop, whoop; end of the bench white guys -- they really suck
PPs: JO's rebounds and put backs; Irving -- three 3s, 4 assists, no TO;. Southwell and Gipson, again/

Peak at a PP? Omari's sweet jumper. Jones' speed-- hope he learns gets the defense down.

A few po-pos:  Gip looked great around the basket.  Jam Sam with an alley oop slam.  Diaz has good speed and body control on breaks.  Irving filled it up with 3x3s.  Jeremy Jones has a nice shot.  Team Shot 78% from the line and 53% from the floor.  Even Ojeles had a blocked shot.

Na-na: UMES is terrible at basketball.  Announced attendance 12,528--the Royals must be doing the counting.

I really have an issue with Sprads lack or assertiveness.  He continues to play like a role player with starters minutes.  He needs to put more pressure on the defense.

Gip looked pretty good away from the basket too. Knocked down a jumper from the elbow and even looked good putting the ball on the floor from the same spot and taking it to the hole more than once to draw fouls and even finish on one of them. I think he still tires pretty quickly, but when he's on the floor he's giving everything. I like how he runs the floor for @ 270lbs.

Was anybody surprised he got the start over Jordan?

Saw pretty much what I expected out of a born-again Jamar. Plenty of effort, lot's of fouling, nice to see him flush that feed from 'Tay.

It's probably a good thing that it doesn't appear Rodney will be our leading rebounder this year. Wouldn't it be great if he 3rd or 4th best bounder this year? I think it would.

Peggy:
- Gip: for a 40 year old guy with a couple a kids and a mortgage, Gip sure plays basketball well
- Didn't turn it over
- Def Rebounding

Nancy:
- 1st half:  everything about the game of basketball was terrible in the first half
- Jamar:  i mean, jfc.  finish.
- on ball defense: are guards can't very well without fouling.

still a NIT team.

Jamar is still a foul drawing machine. Thought we were going to get the ole double foul when he was backing that guy under the rim 50 feet away from the ball but we got the homer single.

Rhoeledar (sp?) is as good at basketball as his brother was at football

Gip is as smooth as a house and has house like hands to match his house smoothness and size.

ar-t really "gets after it" on D.  love watching him.

like MIR said sprads has been dissapointing.

yeah I guess Jones is pretty fast (osu senior guy voice)

our novembercats got their big win.

Peggy:
-ball rotation through the zone.  yeah, we shot 65% in the 2nd half, but part of that was due to the high number of wide-open, uncontested shots.
-front court range.  Jamar draining 3s and Gip hitting 15 footers.
-perimeter shooting.  finally nice to see Irving and McGruder hit some open shots.
-transition game.  yeah, UMES gave up in the 2nd half.  But, we were running all over the floor and getting easy points in transition.

Nancy:
-Didn't really have any negatives.  I guess Spradling was dissapointing, for the same reasons already discussed.

Second half: point where ball was passed to JO at the corner of the FT line.  The D shifted and a wide lane opened up to the basket.  JO looked at it, hesitated ever so slightly, then continued to swing the ball to the next guard over.  The entire crowd went quiet during his hesitation, then all went "Awwwwww!" when he swung the ball.

Gotta give the crowd what they want, JO.  Feed the beast.

Solidly in the Neg Nance category.  One dribble, one and a half steps, and a dunk from being a huge Peggy Po.

How close is Spradling to becoming just our white, drive way shooting, 3 pt specialist, off the bench?

Understood.  He is inconsistent and will be for a while.  But he is fun to watch and brings a sense of urgency that our other guards don't have.

Lots of good stuff in this thread, but I'd have to say I agree with zacker the most.

This team will have plenty of bright spots because I think there is some talent there, but there will be plenty of growing paints. Right now it doesn't look like Samuels, JO, Sprads, McGruder, and Tay are the type of upper classmen leaders that can carry this team through growth to an NCAA. JMHO. That could change, but Sprads (and to an extent McGruder, especially in the 1st half) need to quit passing up good shots. And Jamar can't miss that many bunnies, and this was MES. Those guys have to be 3 of our top 4 scorers most games and probably need to score 40-ish between them. I'm not sure they will.

i would bitch about our perimeter defense but MES was going to make those shots regardless of who was guarding them.

Gip has already blown my expectations for him out of the water. Saw him play about 1 year and a half ago(it was just 1 game) and he showed nothing close to the offensive skill level he's shown early in his career at KSU. Then, to compound things, every recruiting analyst who reported about him raved about his physicality and motor, but noted his lack of height and skill would be obstacles to overcome. Granted, the competition up to this point has not been elite, but I'd say he's well on his way to overcoming those obstacles. UMES was big and fairly athletic up front but still really looking forward to seeing how he progresses as the competition increases.

The hands, the hook, the touch out to mid-rnage, the ability to put the ball on the floor - didn't expect to see any of those this early in his career, but without a doubt, will take.

Angel is already probably our best playmaker off the dribble but once he gets his mid-range game going, he will be a nightmare to defend.

George Washington, Va Tech(road), W. Va., Diamond Head featuring Xavier, Long Beach, Clemson, and UTEP.

Nothing to be ashamed of for a young, rebuilding team that's trying to define roles in the early, non-conference season.

PP:  We looked pretty fantastic during the 2nd half.  Like a lock for the tournament, maybe make a run at like a Sweet 16.

NN:  We're going to have stretches when we play like we did in the first half.  No real leadership and Gip looks like the only guy we can count on to score when we need it most.  Not good.

Prediction:  Bubble team.  Hopefully the 2 wins we get against UT are enough to make us one of the last in.

How can you be concerned with Jamar at this point?  And you're right about Doc but he's been like that every game he's played.  It was excusable when he was a freshman and shared the back court with Jake.  Thus far this year all three games and the FHSU exhibition he has played one aggressive half and one half where he plays like a scared walk-on.

Speaking of walk-ons, not that I didn't warn the board three months ago, but Vulture  :sdeek: I don't ever remember a walk-on looking that clueless in mop up duty.
