Do we have the pieces? Seems like we may lack a star player. Is there a formula or something? :dunno:
-
Pieces yes...but they are crumpled like someone stepped on or spilt water on them.
-
Play defense like we did vs MU; beat many/most on a neutral court.
JMHO.

:dunno:
can we do like an official goEMAW.com bracket challenge thingy?

My HBBIQ Analysis:
If we play a team with bigger bigs than our bigs, but slower guards than our guards, we win.
If we play a team with bigger bigs than our bigs, but equal/better guards than our guards, we lose.
If we play a team with equal/suckier bigs (LOL) than we win.
Also, if we score more points than the other team, we will probably win. :dunno:
-
wouldn't be the biggest Cinderella of all time, but yeah i think we lack the "pros" you would find on most NCAA frontrunners.

Chicken 'n' egg.
If we make a deep run into the tourney, then one of our players will become elevated to a "star".
-
Our goal this year should be to have multiple clips on One Shining Moment. Don't want to be one of those teams with one quick clip b/c we won in the first round or whatever.
Just sayin'.

Anything less than curb-stomping Syracuse for the Nat'l Championship is a disgrace, and Frank should be shipped back to Mexico City. :curse:

Sort of accurate. Pretty much every team in the history of the tournament other than UNC last year comes out and plays like ass and finds itself on the ropes at some point in the tourney. The question is whether the team can fight through that scenario and still win. Like FAN, the Missouri game gives me some confidence the team can weather that, but as you point out, if that game comes against a good team, we ain't winning.

How to win college basketball games does not change just because it is the NCAA tourn.

I think HBBIQ types (I'm not one) always say it kinda does :dunno:
-
good guards in clems fasty & sexy face
lock down defender in dom sutton
solid post play in samuels/ck
hacker/thug in colon
pretty good depth in JHR/McOrebounds/Blake Young/Merri
strong mentality and toughness
^these are the peices we want/need imo

wish our offense didn't go away as much. that's my only concern. that and our perimeter D. but we do have all the right pieces to get to the second weekend, from there it's crap shoot-ish.
-
Second weekend is all I care about right now. I've always dreamed of the message boarding in the short span in between.

encouraging that it can go away so bad and we can still win by 10 tho, amirite?

yes. that's why I think we can get past the first weekend, but after that who knows (not that only making the sweet 16 is some sort of letdown, but, I mean depending on the match up, I might meltdown). it's just weird/uncomfortable to even say we should get past the first weekend, ya know?
-
It all depends on which #1 seed and/or #3 seed is in our region.
Nothing would make me more Randy than a 1 seed Duke and #3 seed Vandy, Ohio or Purdue match up in our Region...:excited:
But as it stands w/ Lunardi w/ Cuse as the #1 seed it seems bleak that we get past them.
-
There is some streak that every NCAA champ has had at least 2 NBA players on it (usually 1st round draft picks, there are a couple of exceptions like UK in 88 where you have to count Kevin Pritchard )
This is kind of a self-fulfilling streak as going on a 6 game roll can easily lift a marginal NBA prospect to 1st round status, but who would be our draft picks? I guess the most physically talented guys are Judge and Kelly, maybe Clemente lights up the tournament and JJ Berea has blazed a trail enough where he could be a draft pick.
-
Yeah, we definitely have the tools to go to the 2nd weekend.
Those tools are a top 20 offense and a top 20 defense:

this may not be the most accurate description, but look at the games in which the team we were facing would most closely resemble the seed we’d face in the second game (depending on our seed, of course):
n-Dayton W
n-UNLV W
Xavier W
@Baylor W
MU W
n-Ole Miss L
@MU L
OSU L
....we're 5-3, with 3 of the 5 wins coming away/nuetral court.

this guy has done staistics over the last 20 years of the tourn.... some sweet analysis of win %'s of seeds for each round.
