For the second game in a row, running down a back with nothing put turf in front of him saves the game.

It's really weird watching our team against teams like OU, A&M, UT...I mean, you can actually see the athletic difference up and down the lineup, but we still, like, win (ya know, except OU).  I mean, we've got Voelker and Mueller out there rushing the passer....UT's got Ocho or whatever and that LB that kept destroying Klein.  It's absurd.

Thought the play calling was extremely bland against 9-10 in the box... we were determined to try and run. Put the D in the position to have to hold UT off for the win IMO. However, give UT credit, they played fast and hard on D as well.

Agree. I mean, I get Snyder being conservative, but at some level you've got to take a chance.

But we won, we are 9-2, and we have a shot at sharing a Big 12 title. I can't complain outside the 2nd half vs OU.

We did take a couple shots.  We missed them.  Klein also got sacked on a few throws.  We started to throw some screens and had moderate success.  I think a couple more long throws would've worked, but Collin did throw a TD pass.  It was extremely unlikely Snyds was going to throw as much as the A&M game because they were getting pressure on Klein, it was on the road, we had a lead, yadda yadda yadda.

I thought the playcalling was just fine considering UT's offense is awful. I mean, we dropped klein back and he got destroyed (mostly) in the first half.  And Klein missed a couple deep balls.  Just one of those games.  When the Zombie isn't working, it's an off day.

it really is amazing and i'm not complaining, but i'd love to see a breakdown of every first down hubert run. i bet he averages a yard or less over the past two games. i mean, why bother?

ut's offense is tragic.  we have the same defense we've had all year.

True. I get it. Snyder plays to win the game.

Not starting an argument... just couldn't believe we stuck w/ those plays when they literally had 10 or 11 in the box... also, very surprised by the option calls instead of qb sneak when we were 1st and goal at the 2. Wondered if we were trying to protect Klein from some hits.

Oh well -- great win once again. Very very happy This has to be killing the UT fans/players. Their hate of us is awesome and has to be bordering on epic.

Complete agreement. TX athleticism and speed on D was quite impressive. Just more magic. Ton of fun.  :moreira:

38 rushing yds on 39 attempts. How many games have been won with that stat.

Our rushing game was totally unimaginative and horrible to look at.

Lamurs best game. Great time to have it

Was it him that completely effed up and let the TE release free for that PA TD?  I mean our safety's are so slow to recognize what a play is i figured i'd just scream at Lamur.

I'm pretty sure Garrett was supposed to pick him up man if he released. Overall just a great play call.

I thought it was somewhat obvious that we were trying to protect Klein from taking hits. It's hard to do when he believes in taking sacks over throwing the ball away, though. Most of the abuse he has taken this season is his fault alone. I still love him, though.

Our defense, while no great shakes, has improved in just enough little ways to help us win this year.

*  Defense of WR screens...good technique in pushing the blocking WR into the ball WR, limiting the gains to 2-3 yards most of the time. These are plays where really crappy defenses give up 15-20-60 yard gains.

*  Clogging middle in the run game. Really improved from last few years.

*  AB there to clean up outside runs...also good help from DBs.

*  Safeties able to make picks. Thought this would be an advantage tonight, and it was. Safeties struggle against good, tight, catch-and-run offenses b/c of athletic disadvantage. But when the QB starts sailing passes over the middle, safeties can make some big turnovers.

*  Corners able to make enough solid plays in coverage. Last couple of weeks, have come up with some big incompletions, besides the interceptions.

Not  a great defense, but they've been able to improve enough in these areas to get us to 9 wins.

This defense sucks ass statistically, but when it comes down to situational play, they have been money. That has defined this season, imo.

Hate to be that guy but I'd have to think the offenses we face most weeks would skew the stats of most defenses in the nation.  Nice that we've been able to mix it up with high scoring teams one week and then win  a tough defensive battle on the road the next.  (Against a ranked UT team that likely has as much talent as any other team in the nation.  Too bad their QBs suck ball.)

He does hold it too long, but our offensive line is not great at pass blocking and often gets whipped with speed rushes off the edge.

I agree when you look at the Offenses that we have faced, I'm not sure your Defence could look good statisiticly.... We saw how good Texas D is and look what O.U did too them.

2y has been pretty solid against the run.
Title: Re: #kstatedefensemvp
Post by: jtksu on November 20, 2011, 11:41:55 AM
Yeah, 2Y is solid against the run.  I think some people assume that a player must be great in every facet to be a valuable player.  Looking back, a dude like Cooper  was also pretty terrible against the pass.  He had a lot more components around him to mask this and didn't face 50+ passes a game like 2Y does though.  Still, for a dude like Tysyn to have started as many games as he has and battled through all sorts of injuries (or whatever), you'd have to say he's been a pretty darn valuale guy for us.

Yep. It's amazing how they can get stops when it's absolutely dire. Clutch does not even describe some of the stops and turnovers we've gotten to win games.

Honestly thats the best way to decribe this team  is as clutch....... minus the end of the okie lite game......... when they have to.... they do.

when 2y's plays for years in the league you can compare him to cooper...  until then you look like an idiot.

No, but he is saying no safety gets drafted (and actually plays a full career) who flat out sucks in coverage.
