Title: BSFS first OT game?
Post by: kstate4life on November 14, 2011, 05:36:35 PM
Any thoughts as to why we didn't try and score points before the end of regulation?  I mean 58 seconds with 3 timeouts, after finding holes in their secondary the previous two drives, seemed to be plenty of time to get into field goal range.  Could it have been OB's desire to host an OT game at BSFS??

Probably felt the unlikely chance of scoring wasn't worth the risk of a turnover that would have given them a field goal opportunity as we were pretty deep in our own territory.

Winning in regulation wasn't part of the scheme.

Look, OB has been around forever.  He's been a fumble away from a national championship game, he's beat the tar out of the best college football team ever, yada yada.  But he had never been to over time.  Whelp, you can cross that off the list of things to do before he hands the reins over to HCIW Sean Snyder.

Ya I don't know, could be wrong. (Stan and Wyatt said he had never been to overtime.)

To clarify (and I don't hide this fact), I didn't follow K-State before I arrived on campus in 2000.  Did watch Chad May in that bowl game though.

did anyone else notice that they said we were 3-3 in OT on the broadcast? Or maybe I was losing my mind.

becasue we score like 95% of the time in the redzone...that said we could have tried a couple of short passes screens or something simple to see if someone could have maed a play!

a quick screen to tramaine or harp would have been ideal. they could have busted something big and we wouldnt have had to deal with OT. that being said. LOVED ot

I don't see the harm in running the clock down to 10 seconds or so with 2 consecutive running plays then throwing a deep play action to Harp.... even if they turn it over - if it's thrown deep enough they shouldn't have enough time to drive the field to get into scoring position.  Taking a knee seems really pussy-ish....   there were several FYBS's thrown out in the Heinballz household that series.   I never brought it up because it worked - but it could easily have not worked out.

Like hell Prince was going to overtime.  That batshit insane bad person would call a fake extra point, 2 pt conversion or onside kick or someshit to avoid that.
