Title: Tulsa vs. Houston is a big game for us
Post by: TheHamburglar on November 14, 2011, 01:04:02 PM
Tulsa probably has the best shot at knocking off Houston.  Houston is a position to get an automatic BCS birth...need them to lose.  It will greatly help our Cotton Bowl chances.

Ridiculous. Houston is no Boise or TCU. They don't deserve a BCS game for beating shitty teams.

Even if Houston loses, I don't see Boise State dropping out of the top 16.

Boise right now isn't gonna win their conference, which would be a requirement for them.

This sounds crazy, but if Houston and Southern Miss both win out going into the CUSA title, then that game becomes a BCS play-in game.

USM is #20, TCU is #19.  If USM beats Houston they will pass TCU go up to #19.   #15 thru #18 are all BigTen schools and atleast 2 of them will lose.  That moves them up 2 spots to #17. Sitting at #14 is Georgia with 2 loses and another probable loss in the BCS championship game, that loss probably knocks them out of the top 16 to let USM.  USM wins out, coupled with Houston beating SMU and Tulsa, and there is a very good chance they play in the Sugar or Orange bowls.

USM lost to Marshall.  They're not getting in a BCS game.

Right now they are #20 with at a minimum 2 of the teams ranked 15 to 18 having guaranteed losses.  They only need to climb 2 spots in 3 weeks with a game against the #11 team left.  One of those teams they are so close to in the ranking that they would easily pass with a win over #11 Houston, (TCU).  If they win out to get to 12-1 they'll more than likely end up in the top 16 and earn an auto-bid.

Has something changed?  I thought only the top 14 places got auto-bids?

The top-ranked non-BCS conference champ gets an auto-bid if they finish in the top 12. They also get an auto-bid if they are in the top 16 and ranked higher than the champion of one of the BCS conferences. Currently nobody in the Big East is ranked, so top 16 is probably all it will take.

Ah....goddamn they like to over-complicate things.

Yeah, the rule blows. It would make more sense if the shitty Big East team didn't still get in even though they aren't even ranked.

Under BCS rules, only one non-Big Six team is guaranteed a spot if it meets the criteria. Any others would be at-large candidates.
So Hustone is ranked below Boise anyway.
It is certainly nice for Tulsa to win, though.    At least there is no argument whether Huston deserve a BCS.

Yes, only 1 non-AQ schools gets a bid if they meet certain criteria, and it is the highest ranking non-AQ member to win their conference.  Boise St. will not with the Mountain West unless TCU loses both of its last 2 games (not happening as they are 3-6 Colo. St. and 1-9 New Mexico).  Therefore Houston, not Boise St, will get the non-AQ automatic bid if they win out.
