Title: Mutual interest between KU and Mike Leach
Post by: OregonSmock on November 07, 2011, 03:25:25 PM
According to @jayhawktalk:

"Recently heard interesting info from big donor buddies. First, Gill is all but gone. Would have to have a miracle finish to have any chance. Every major donor ready for a change, and that's huge.

This particular donor said "I called Zenger. All my friends called Zenger. Everyone is on the same page here. He knows where we stand."

Word is that the money is there but only on the condition that Zenger "doesn't **** this one up."

One said Leach has not only been contacted but that there's mutual interest. UCLA only potential suitor, and that ship hasn't sailed yet.

I literally replied with "there's no chance Leach comes here," to which he replied, "You want to bet?" There's definitely smoke.

Again, both of them said they fully expect Gill to be gone. Also said they both really like Zenger and don't envy his sucky position

Another fun fact: said further changes in coach likely to include baseball, women's basketball, and volleyball. Maybe within next year."

Fall has already started out pretty rough for them in the Dillons.

At this point it is 16-1.

Good luck Beems, maybe the greatest free fall in college football history will end soon.

It's probable that Gill will have gone 1-16 in big 12 play. And more notably, 0-4 against KSU and MU. And no big time upsets like a win over UT or OU. He's done.
i dont care how much money youd owe him, thats unacceptable, and there needs to be a change if im a 'hawk fan.
that being said, i dont see how a athletic department 60 mill in debt, is going to afford to pay a huge buyout, and a new big contract for a rated r superstar such as leach.

I don't think you understand how debt works.  K-State just took out over 20 million in bonds for your new basketball facility.

"How much money has been raised and how much is needed?
There is a great deal of fundraising momentum and excitement for this project. We have already received over $14 million in pledges towards the $17.6 million estimated total project cost. So, we still need your help to fully complete this project as budgeted!"

It is...Non revenue generating projects (such as practice facilities) are being funded with donations.
Revenue generating projects such as a new pressbox/suites will be funded with both donations and bonds.

Makes pretty good financial sense.

Let's say we run the table on the squawks, including both hoops games, through February.  Do we keep saying __-1 or do we go to __-0 once it's been a year past the last loss?

Even though statistically the __-0 is infinitely better, the __-1 seems funnier.

I think we use both.

"K-State is __-0 against KU in the past year. You think that's bad? They are __-1 against KU over the past 2 years. That's domination, folks."

Quote
The winning bid to build this facility was approximately $12.2 million ("construction cost"). In addition, there are approximately $5.4 million in other expenses (such as furnishings and equipment, site work, architect and engineering expenses, state and university fees, and contingencies) bringing the total estimated full project cost to $17.6 Million

we took out over $20 million in bonds for a project that cost $17.6 million  :surprised:  what are we, the US gov't??

On Tuesday Mike Leach told The Commercial Appeal that if Ole Miss is interested in hiring him to replace Nutt, he isn't hard to find.

“I haven’t heard from anybody, but I’m not too hard to find,” Leach told the paper. “It’s a great job. I’m sure the (Ole Miss) administration has a certain individual it is looking for, and I’m sure they’ll find the right guy.”

Leach to KU makes perfect sense.  Perfect place to rehab his image in a league he is familar with.  KU has some pretty decent athletes on the offensive side and I'm sure he could recruit a decent QB to come in and play right away.  I have to say I'm pretty jealous, although his shelf life at KU would be as short as TG's.

Calm down, guise.  You know our boy Zulu is going to convince the big money at KU that the next LHC Bill Snyder is...wait for it...SEAN SNYDER!!!  Double whammy for EMAW Zulu.  He helps his beloved alma mater and Sean "rebuilds" the program VERY slowly, but fast enough that donors are like "meh, whatever."  Sean proceeds to win 6 or 7 games most years and does just enough to barely hang on to his job for the next 20 years.

Cheyenne Zulu is an EMAW hero.  He knows what he needs to do.

No rough ridin' way Sumlin goes to KU.  No way.  Much brighter future than that.  Wait another season or two until a job at a school that gives a crap and isn't hopelessly flailing opens up.  Seriously, anyone like Sumlin can get a job that isn't a complete rebuild.

KU's fb team is the equivalent of a full blown crack whore that hasn't even had an intervention yet.  Why would Sumlin want to date that?

All I am saying is that rehab is gonna be a bitch, and most coaches won't want a part of that unless the money is unreal, or it is a step up that they couldn't get elsewhere at that particular point in their career.

Sumlin would go UCLA or ole miss before ku.  He'd stay at Houston before ku.

You think KU fans would go for another black head coach?  pffft.  The comments I heard at the Wheel after the K-State game were very telling.  "We got our very own Ron Prince.  We only hired him cause he's black and we wanted to be 'progressive.'"  KU racist hayseeds would riot on the dirt roads if they fired one black guy to hire another one.

The best part about the Free State propaganda is that the Jayhawkers would raid and burn down the towns in Missouri, take all the slaves and.... get this, they didn't free them..... they sold them to slave owners in other states!

Your post became unbelievable when you imply that the Jayhawkers actually won a fight.  It is pretty widely accepted that they got smoked anytime they didn't fight women and children.

There's a little slave town in Missouri that wants KU to change our mascot from "Jayhawks" because of the pain that the Jayhawkers unleashed on them back in the day.  Again, you are nothing more than a butthurt K-State fan who takes every possible opportunity to slander KU, even if it means being on the wrong side of slavery.

Oh, and by the way, I own you.

Just citing more historical facts   KU fans like to forget that both sides did really mumped up things in the whole Bleeding Kansas ordeal, then they try and take some moral high ground over everyone and anyone else that cites an atrocity committed by the Jayhawkers is a "taking shots at KU" or "slandering KU".

Yes, sacrifices were made in order to abolish slavery.  That's why it's called "war."

That's another thing. KU did not abolish slavery. The actual civil war was not fought in Kansas, thus Bleeding Kansas is about as insignificant as the entire KU-MU border war rivalry.

Not claiming I played for the KC 76'ers.  Different 76'ers team that I played for in 7th/8th grade.  Went to multiple regional AAU tournaments in the Midwest.  Played against the KC Bullets (Brandon Rush's team) in a tournament in Little Rock, Arkansas.  He was tall and uncoordinated at the time, but still dominated us.
