On College Basketball Arenas
Blandest buildings
Bramlage Coliseum (34). Who plays there: Kansas State. Opened: 1988. Capacity: 13,344. Aside from the octagonal shape and (at least currently) loud student section, this is a clunky building bereft of charm. Especially when compared with a couple of nice arenas built around the same time (see: Cincinnati and Michigan State).
-
agree, It's pretty awful looking.
-
While scrolling down this article I was hoping for a "Blandest" category so we would at least be mentioned somewhere.
-
warm up the hate mail motherfrackers!
-
Should've stayed in Ahearn, IMO
-
I can't say I disagree with him.
-
how hard can it be to hire some Mexicans to slap some limestone up for a facade?
-
qft. place is infinitely better now than five years ago. the boxes and courtside seats have almost made it adequate.
but yeah. it's pretty frackin' ugly.
-
There was probably a reason I didn't call it the Octagon of Attractive Magnificence.
-

This is the truth. If we should have just renovated ahearn with fred's money and named the court after him or something.
Would truly be :bball:

no. It's a complete dump.

I'm sure Hilton Coliseum would be on this list as well.

Cire I actually agree with you on something...Ahearn is a shithole, I repeat a f'n rundown shithole...move on folks..
The only coin that needs to be dropped on Ahearn is for a dozer to come in and take er down...same for the phog..old shithouses are not cool.

maybe we can play one game a year there or something. i'm going to write currie an email suggesting it.
-
ATTENTION OLD PEOPLE:
Get the eff out, Ahearn is a piece of crap.

Maybe just have like 1,000 seats for blue hairs and the rest for students in Ahearn :dunno:
-
Maybe a sh*t hole, but I enjoy playing basketball in the upstairs gym (always courts open). . . So let's not tear it down. I would be :frown:

If Ahearn had been built with the infrastructure and layout that Allen was built with just a few years later, I would agree that Ahearn renovation vs building the OOD would have been the way to go. As Ahearn was, the structure was too small and the layout wrong to put enough enough seats in it to make it feasible. The mistake was trying to build the OOD on the cheap.
-
There's nothing wrong with the OOD except for having shltty teams in it for too long.
And there's no practice facility/HOF.

That's how we always do it at K-State. Different administrators, same mistakes. I expect a similar result if/when the bb practice facility is built.

WGAF? It's no more/less bland than the central Texas triumvirate of Erwin/Reed/Ferrel. It's not as nice as Tech's or Missouri's buildings but I wouldn't trade situs with them.
It's become pretty clear that the only thing that really matters in a building are the people inside it, both those on the court and those cheering them on.

Bramlage was originally to be bigger and nicer, but the final available budget (all private money) required multi-million dollar cuts.

you go to watch the game, not look at the rough ridin' building. it's a great place to watch a game.
-
here's an idea...put a giant tv in ahearn and let the old geezers go there and watch the game. then they can't sit on the butts the entire time and watch the game in ahearn. hell, we could charge lots of money for this.
