Title: Another Comp. related question
Post by: _33 on March 01, 2010, 07:21:40 PM
So I downloaded a torrent in avi.  iMovie couldn't open the avi.  Did a little research, downloaded 3ivx and DivX Doctor II.  Thought this would be able to turn avi to mov which I could open in iMovie.  When I ran DivX Doctor II it did convert to mov but something popped up as soon as it finished that said QT couldn't open in this format, even though it was mov.  Anyway, while that didn't work, I was then able to simply import the avi to imovie, presumably because of the software I had just downloaded?   :dunno:  But after the import I had video and no sound.  That's where I'm at.

Any advice on how to get sound, or different software that might work better?  Or am I making this way more complicated than need be?

Did you try VLC media player? That usually plays everything.

I can actually play the avi in QT with sound and everything.  What I'm really after though is the ability to edit it in iMovie.  I've imported twice, no sound either time.

.avi is a container format.  You can't see / hear the content because you don't have the necessary video / audio codecs installed.  Start here. (http://avicodec.duby.info/)

Shouldn't use software that starts with an 'i', guaranteed crap.

I can hear it fine when I watch in with QT.  It's when I try to import into iMovie that the sound is gone.  Is that still a codec problem?
