:sdeek:
It seems to me that only OU and OSU are teams that we will have trouble slowing down. A win in Lubbock and wow oh wow look out! :emawkid:
I honestly didn't think I would post this, this year. And what about next year!? :excited:
-
8 wins is a phenomenal year this year(prebowl). I still see a tough time getting there.
-
It's Chingon
-
TTU, KU, and ISU are all games we should win. aTm and UT are both games we could win. I don't think we can beat OU or OSU. 3 more wins is a pretty conservative projection. 9 wins is doable. (We own Texas.) 10 wins would be amazing but also not totally out of the realm of possibilty. The Big 12 has 4 pretty good teams and 2 very good teams. We've already beat one pretty good team.

Tech will give us fits. I would not put that game in the should win. It is at best a can win
-
Is Tech better than Mizzou or Baylor? Did you watch the TTU/KU game? I put them in the should win column for several reasons. Not saying we definitely will beat them but we certainly should beat them.
-
Man, don't do this to me. Don't get my emaw up that high.
-
A win at tech would be an undeniable sign that this team has arrived.
-
A loss at Tech would be a sign that this team is not for real. Consider the Tech game like a road game at Lincoln in basketball. TTU is a bottom third Big 9 team. Road or not, we need to win those types of games.
-
Come on. Tech is not a gimmie, especially since it's on the road.
Their wins haven't been pretty, but they've won 4 games and are giving A&M a game in lubbock. Comparing it to a Nebrasketball roadie is unbelievably nonsensical.
-
It hasn't been pretty but they've won X amount of games (mostly in the OOC) and they're giving Team X a run on their home turf (and will likely still lose). If that's not Nebraskatballesque, I don't know what else is. Didn't call It a gimme, said we should win. Will win and should win are way different. We're a better team than TTU, therefore we SHOULD beat them. I'd say it's roughly 75%.
-
I think the most encouraging thing about Tech is that they're giving up 5.9 yards a rush.
That bodes really well for us.
-
I think we will win, but I would consider it a "good" win and I wouldn't consider it a "bad" loss.
Beating talented teams on the road is a hard thing to do.

Who in the hell would call TTU a talented team?
-
Seem pretty similar to Mizzou. Win or lose, that game won't do alot for our national cred.
-
I see KU as the only will win left on the schedule. I just hope the chamber can sustain the daniel thomas style pounding he is getting.

Big 12 roadie is still a roadie.

Non-dumbasses.

WTF are you talking about. TTech looks like garbage

I think people are being pretty conservative. KSU should win that game.
A&M is just churning through their rush defense for nearly six yards a carry, and they have a nine minute disadvantage in TOP.
KSU can win this game by playing Snyderball.
-
TTech will be tough. If we can win that one. wowsers.
-
Yeah Tech has a lot of talent, they just don't play hard like Tubs wants.
-
The worst news of the night was an ugly injury to Texas Tech's leading rusher Eric Stephens. His knee looked to be badly torqued, and he was carted off the field. There's no word yet on his status, but it didn't look good.
-
Tech is a fat little girlfriend game. We should win it if we don't take a week off from practice.

Nebrasketball roadies weren't exactly gimmies, either. I think the analogy is about right. If minor level bowl games are the equivalent of a college football NIT, Texas Tech is about on par with Nebrasketball.

What's the fb equivalent to really rough ridin' tall foreigners who can knock down the three ball?

Really white qb's who can be accurate deep from time to time.

would compare it more to playing an a&m or mizzou on the road in b-ball. decent teams we have no trouble with at home but on the road its a tossup.
-
Nah. Mizzou BB is very good at home. aTm is a good team everywhere. TTU fb is not a good team. KU game them a run for their money. It's definitely Nubb-ball. We should win, unless we get doc'd or marist'd.
-
Hartman and Zimmerman will keep Texas Tech in the game next week, they are absolutely terrible at coverage. If Tech's OC isn't Chris Cosh's offensive counterpart, they are going to pick on our safeties all game.

maybe you are right. its hard to let go of thinking this is a leach team we'll face.

Just out of curiousity, what is Cosh's defense ranked right now? Didn't Zim intercept a ball that lead to a TD? And then intercept another? (call be damned) Our safties were very solid this week, as was the rest of the D.

The defense is better in spite of Cosh, not because of him. The 2011 players are better than last year, not the coordinator. Zimmerman was alright today but they are both still poor at covering receivers and defending against the pass, especially Hartman and his one knee. It's really going to bite us in the ass against a pass happy team, and Tech might be that team.
-
We went to a soft zone way too early. The defense was very solid until we went up 24-3.
-
Exactly. We were nails until 24-3, with like 11:00 left. And trying to pretend that a college team is something in spite of their coach is laughable. Cosh has done a very good job this year. Very good job. The turnaround of our D will talked about every game this year. 100s to 20s?! Amazing.

I don't think Cosh is a world beater, but I think he's done a solid job this year. It's pretty clear that he had no depth to work with last year, plus his 3-3-5 put our guys out of position. He's done a lot better job this year working with what he has. My only complaint with him at this point is our "two-minute" (no huddle) defense, which has always kind of been a problem with him, but if we're able to hold Baylor/RG3 to 35 and a missouri team that was averaging 500+ yards a game to under 20, then it's pretty clear that Cosh isn't as incompetent as I or many others thought he was.
That said, OU and OSU are absolutely going to destroy us, and there's nothing Cosh can do about it except play damage control.

The turnaround of the defense has a lot more to do with replacing the slowest linebacker in the Big 12 (Hrebec) with Arthur Brown and guys like Garrett, Kibble and Walker having another year under their belt than Cosh being a better coach than he was last year. His coaching ability is almost the same as it was last year but the talent and speed this season is significantly better than 2010. Who do you think decided to go into the soft zone when we were up 24-3? Good defensive coordinators don't have the 117th rushing defense on their resume. Cosh does seem to have adjusted his defense to better fit K-State's personnel, I will give him that.

I like this Shacks guy. Hope you had a good time at the game.

thought Mizzou was going to shred us. Right? MU racked up yards vs. OU's safeties...soooo? What's our secret?

Missouri's offense was completely flat for the first three quarters yesterday. There were times (like the interception on the first play) where Franklin looked like he didn't give a eff and was treating the play like he was going against air in practice. I watched Mizzou's games at ASU and OU start to finish, and we didn't shut them down for three quarters, they weren't clicking for whatever reason. That's an indictment of their coaching staff, no excuse to execute that poorly after a bye week. The first 45 minutes of yesterday was a combination of our defense playing well, Missouri's offense being out of sync and just enough drizzle to make the ball slippery. Moisture definitely helps K-State more than their opponent.
I'm not trashing our defense, we dominated them in the first quarter and overall played an above average game. A's for the first three quarters, D for the fourth (would be F but I believe we were mumped out of at least one turnover, not going to blame our defense for that). Just pointing out that yesterday was our defense performing above average and their offense misfiring for the first 3/4 of the game.

Didn't Zim intercept a ball that lead to a TD?
Saw this part that wasn't on abc yesterday on the espn3 replay. Looked like AB knocked the crap out of the receiver who was on his way to where that pass got thrown, and it proceeded through air to TZ.
