A simple solution for KU would be to renovate the stadium to seat 10,000 or less.  Then you would haul in more TV revenue.  Yeah!

What was KSU's attendance after LHCBS's 1st yr?  Was KSU's rec close to 3-9 then? Worse?

Edit --  I didn't realize KSU was only 1-10 in yr one of Snyder's dominance, what was the attendance in yr 2?  Anyone...

Gill might have better attendance his 2nd yr than LHCBS did   :horrorsurprise:

It looks like it's only been sent to people who already bought tickets, so could be pretty limited.

The "pacmail" that is the source of the photo is what ku ticket emails typically come on.

Ku will be lucky to hire the coach from Olathe East for their next hire.

We had a mouse sighting in our office this morning.  Naturally, we called on a ku grad to get the bugger.  He was wearing a ku sticker on his Terminex coveralls so I asked him about Turner.  He was vehement in saying he had to be canned unless they whip KSU.  I asked him if he had been to any games to see them play live....he said denied.  Had only watched one on t.v.

seems pretty unfair.

It isn't a live trap.  He is taking this mouse down.  But he did remark how this mouse sounded pretty small.  "Nothing like the beasts he battled at the Fieldhouse..."

He got a far away look in his eye and started to sweat when he said that.

Fans typically buy drinks, food, etc, once they're inside the stadium, which adds additional revenue.

You could just add 10,000 to the number of people who actually attend in order to improve attendance.

I guess if you want to sell more bottles of diet coke, giving away tickets again can't hurt.

The big question is how many people will take advantage of the free tickets that would have bought them otherwise, hence costing the department revenue.

That would work, was actually going to destroy the idea that giving away free tickets would in any way increase KU's revenue if there is a vendor contract though.

They are contracted out to a third party, so at best KU splits the profit.  They need to sell 2 cokes to make the money of 1.

At best.

More than likely KU gets a set fee for all concessions with a guaranteed minimum and a percentage (much less than 50) of sales over that.

I would also venture to guess the contract has different minimum payments for attendance levels, which is why KU is offering up free tix to its 2nd biggest home game of the year.

KU's '02 team was quite a bit worse, and Baylor has had some awful teams as well.  KU's defense is bad, but I don't think all of it has to do with talent.  Remember what K-State's defense looked like when Snyder first took over and Texas Tech put up 66 points on you guys?

Has there been a worse team in the history of the Big XII?  Serious question.

KU's '02 team was quite a bit worse, and Baylor has had some awful teams as well.  KU's defense is bad, but I don't think all of it has to do with talent.  Remember what K-State's defense looked like when Snyder first took over and Texas Tech put up 66 points on you guys?

Yeah, but then we turned around and put 60-some on aTm.  Maybe you guys will do the same this week.  I hope so.

We gave up 58 to Tech that year.... two more than the Pokes put up on KU in the 1st half....

Last year's KU team was probably worse overall, but KU's defense this year could be the worst in conference history.

My point exactly.  Give Turner at least another 4.  Look at the trends.

back in the early mangino days i once went to the kstate game in lawrence w/ a bunch of friends and we all got tickets for ten dollars right outside of the stadium. one of my friends kept trying to haggle down from ten and only pay seven. it was infuriating. i finally just took his seven dollars added three, bought him a ten dollar ticket and then we all went inside. moral of the story-yes, you'll be able to get a ticket for 20 or less. just don't wear purple while outside of the stadium trying to get a ticket. it might not make a diferrence but you never know.

Heck, they were scalping tickets to non-con games for $5 back during the glory days.

i should add that i didn't have ksu tix from 1999-2008 and never had to pay more than like 25 to get into any kstate game either. just show up and refuse to pay more than twenty and 9/10 you'll be fine. usc was by far the toughest ever in terms of bsfs ticket scalping. harder than any neb or ou game.

I was in Lawrence for the game in '98 my sophomore year.  I got all  :drink: and watched the game sitting on the hill with some friends that were at KU at the time.  We actually walked down and snuck in and watched part of the game from the track in the south end zone.  True story.  Nobody really gave a crap back then though.  The "rivalry" was at an all-time low at that point, I think.  We crushed them in football and they crushed us in basketball.  It was a mutual understanding and we all seemed to be cool with it.  :dunno:

They have a good offense.

While I don't follow ku recruiting that closely, from what I can tell is that their staff made a big mistake in not building the defense first, in addition, if you don't have a good defense you can't try to be ou/Baylor/TT lite and run some kind of fast break offense.

In looking at the drive charts against OSU, their QB was responsible for 3 turnovers, all on passing plays.   It seems as though Long feel in love with the passing game because they moved the ball with it on their first drive.   Chuck Long must think that DC's in the Big 12 are idiots and won't  make adjustments.   Again, just by reading the drive charts my impression is that almost every negative play that caused the snowball of the first half, except one, came out of the passing game.

KSU's D is overrated numbers wise nationally big time  but have found a way to make big stops at key times in their 5 close wins.   So easily they could be 1-6 or 2-5.

I like our running backs more than ksu and both of our olines seem solid. Defensive though....I remember Tre Walker was dying for a KU offer. He didnt get one and I didnt think he deserved one but he has been good.

Talent wise, KU probably has a better backfield than K-State.

Can you name one?
Yep.  Stoops' coaching tree has about, what, 6-7 guys that were able to parlay their coordinator position into a HC position within about 3-4 years?  (Mangino, Wilson, Long, Leach, Stoops, Sumlin, etc).  Yet, Venebles is still here 7 years after being named coordinator.
I cringe at those that think he'd be a strong solution for KU after Gill (assuming it doesn't work out with him).  I think there are a lot better candidates that would take the job.

Venables taking the KU head coaching position is less likely than him taking a defensive coord. position at just about any BCS level team.

For those people that e-mailed that Jarvis guy and never heard back, don't feel too bad. I just got this e-mail a little while ago:

Quote
I regret to inform you that KAS will not have tickets for the KU-KSU game.  I am very sorry.  There was a mis-communication between KU and Kansas Accessible Sports.  Please accept my sincere apologies.

If some else was scheduled to pick up tickets, please notify them that they are unavailable.

Later. Jarvis

I actually was expecting this since I heard from a source inside the KU Athletic Department earlier today that they had discovered while looking through message boards that two different guys had been given tickets by the athletic department and were attempting to give them away in return for donations to charity. Apparently this was against the rules set by KU and they refused to give these guys tickets once they found out. After hearing that, two things came to mind: 1. Members of the KU Athletic Department read goEMAW.com.  :babywillie: 2. The KU Athletic Department discourages people from donating to charity, especially donating to handicapped people. Disgusting.
