to what extent, I don't know. But we will be successful running the ball on these guys. I have a lot of confidence this will happen.

So as long as our rushing yard total is in the +, your prediction is correct.
-
I think we will get more than 4 yards per carry as a team.
-
I'm not worried about our ability to run against Miami. Klein, Hubert, Pease, BB, etc should be able to move the ball against just about anybody. Passing, on the other hand....

No, I think we may very well go over 200 yards rushing on them.
-
How successful will a run-only offense be when a quality defense knows they are a run-only offense?

I enjoyed the orbit that we showed last week. With our particular set of receivers, I think this should be used fairly regularly.
-

When you incorporate the QB run game, it's harder to stop. We do need to go deep occasionally to keep them honest, though.

I hear you. We will need to make plays in the passing game to win. Klein wasn't the problem vs. Kent State in that area. If our receivers don't drop the passes in that game we score 45 pts or more. He hit receivers in the hands. He'll have his bad throws and we'll live with that. All QBs have bad throws.
It's the consistency you worry about...but Miami is a little bit young in that secondary and if they have to come up to help.
I hate that Freeze is our RG. We need to do something about that.

Based on what? Our best OL is out, and our RB's have shown absolutely nothing.

Klein's rushing yards count, also.
-

When running the QB it can still be quite successful, but Klein will still need to hit some throws. He can't be at the 4.1 YPA he was vs Kent. It doesn't need to be some ridiculous 10+ YPA, but we probably at least need to get close to doubling the YPA #s.
We will likely have 4-5 opportunities to get over the top of Miami on play-action, we need to protect and Klein needs to hit at least 2-3 of those. JMHO.

sometimes very successful. see #6 on this list

This particular group of Miami defenders has not been great at stopping the run. They were 84th last year and that was with Bailey and McCarthy...two pretty stout defenders. Ohio State had no threat to run the ball from QB, rarely used a fullback, doesn't have an elite talent at RB (Bryce might qualify), and wasn't a threat to throw the ball going into the game yet they found a lot more success running it than they did against Toledo the week before at home.

actually Bryce did show something while at Tennessee. Look, the time is winding down for Hubert...kay?
why will we be able to run? scheme, personnel at a number of positions like QB, TE, WR...and you look at a running team like Georgia Tech...individually they are very average in terms of talent. That wasn't some incredibly talented team that ran all over Kansas last week. Nor was it an incredibly talented Ga Tech team that gashed Miami for 350 on the ground last year.
We'll run on them.
For some reason this board sees the l__l and just flips out thinking of Russell Maryland, Sapp, etc. etc. They're good but they don't have those types of guys right now.
-
Are you guaranteeing a Georgia Tech t-shirt type performance?
-
our first play from scrimmage should be a bootleg to Tannahill. Let 'em knew we aint skeered.
-
but will Miami run on us...um..yes. And they should have beat Maryland but they had one too many fumbles.
-
And they should have beat Maryland but they had one too many fumbles.
okay. good for them.
-
We are so slow compared to Miami it's almost a joke.
-
Should I kill my prize meatgoat BEFORE the game as a sacrifice?
I will prepare Cmmdr. Ichabod Scrivener VonSucculence for his final days if so.
-

:dubious:
-
200 rushing yards probably won't be enough for the win, fwiw.
-
We are so slow compared to Miami it's almost a joke.
I say we use that speed against them.
-

YES. OVERPURSUIT
They will get to the spot they think we will be in before we are even close to there, causing them to fall over in :shockhorrorsurprise: :wherethehellistheballcarrier?: :imean, heshouldberightfuckinghere: as we meander lucidly over the fallen bodies to the endzone.
-
Move to secret strategy room. Don't want Miami lurkers.
:looselipssinkships:
-
200 yds out of our backs would be a decent day, 300 w/ Klein added in would probably keep us in the game. Unless we have like 50 passing yds.

Yeah, I meant 200 with Klein added in probably won't be enough.
-
Yeah, I was just expounding on your theme a bit.

Would rather you sacrifice that meatgoat for Ellis.

Wow....awkward.

No, it's cool. I have a handsome herd of mgs but I have a hard time saying goodbye.
Pretty much has to be a 1aD player.

Could you sacrifice a lesser meatgoat for the Miami game, and save the prime specimen for the Texas game? I don't want to jeopardize our chances by messing with ritual or anything, but just thinking that saving the best meatgoat for an important confy game could pay off in the long run.
-
I will meet with my head mg Vaquero and discuss some herd management. He may not like this plan though.

   at sacrificing anything for a Texas game. lol
Obvious sock or squawk.
-

slower? Yes. We're definitely slower at a number of positions but not everywhere.
But I think EVERYBODY on this board knows that.
Fortunately it's not the only thing that matters. If that were the case Navy wouldn't have scared the hell out of So. Carolina. We're good enough to be in this game with a chance to win it. We need to play well and we're capable of doing that.
-
Manhatter,
Would you say that our primary attack will be between the tackles to try to minimize the damage their speed can do? Using Brown and Pease to bruise up inside seems a hell of alot more likely than trying to use any of our backs to take the perimeter. Could we maybe see some designed draws for Klein?
-

I'm not sure how Snyder will attack it. I'm sure he's been working on it all off-season knowing that they would have many of the same faces returning on defense. He gets creative in games like this with his run game. The typical football fan sees a QB option and thinks there is no difference but it's more about the blocking schemes up front and who does what.
-
So we play crap offense against EKU, not a whole lot better offense against Kent, and now, we'll run all over a defense that our star defensive player couldn't even see time for? Mmmkay. :emawkid:

you don't watch much football eh? Last year Nebraska ran the ball very pedestrian vs. an FCS team ranked around 100 in South Dakota State and then ran the ball all over Mizzou, Okie State, etc.
Ohio State couldn't run the ball that well on Toledo at home the week before Miami and ran it fine vs. the Canes.
Schemes, execution, intensity, playbook all change week to week.
This is why one team runs for 400 one week vs. what was considered to be a stout opponent and then lays an egg the following week. It's commonplace in college football.
Some of our fans are WAY too fixated on that Eastern Kentucky game.

Hatter, did you see my mini-meltdown after EKU? Not sure why you didn't calm me down. Took 10-7 pretty hard. :frown:

That game was traumatic, but the OL is what worries me the most.

sometimes you need to find a more level-headed approach to things on your own time. experiences. there are repeats for most teams nearly every season. Highs and lows. ride the tide out.

not furious...just read posts on this board all of the time that is negative towards KSU...positive to other teams and often not backed up by anything to substantiate it.

we're so deep in UT's head at this point it doesn't matter. I'd prefer they be undefeatead and ranked #1 personally.
