Big XII is gonna be tough this year, no rummies anywhere.
-
They're gonna kill us. I hate you, LHC Bill Snyder. I rough ridin' hate you
-
Their offense looks very good, their defense . . . not so much. Both defenses are bad, GT horrible tackling fundamentals, ku looks like they didn't even practice against the option so far.
-
should be a great game in lawrence. still haven't seen either team play but my instincts tell this sunflower showdown should be a humdinger.
-

yeah I agree with that. KU has a solid o-line and an above average run game. Their defense is slow.
-
This is a repeat of last weeks game. Gonna end up in the 40s
-
GT averaging more than 15 yards per play.
-
This is a repeat of last weeks game. Gonna end up in the 40s
yep, I give KU a slight advantage because they can actually throw the ball.
-
KU looks liked KSU last year.
-
ku's offense just keeps making nice plays and keeping drives going, of course GT's defense is coached by Al Groh and he has never impressed me.
On defense, ku is just getting destroyed so far, multiple plays where there wasn't any ku guys within yards of the ball carrier.
-
Nice catch by the ku guy.
GT is averaging 15.5 yards per carry so far.
-
They found they're next Todd Reesing. We're so mumped.
-
Nice catch by the ku guy.
GT is averaging 15.5 yards per carry so far.
per play.
It's actually 17.5 per carry.
-
They didn't that last conversion, but they are unbelievable on 3rd down. Unreal.
-
turner looks great, love his specs.
-
just following on my phone. tech didn't go for it on 4th & 1 at the 7?
-
Rock chalk. Great performance by KU.
Turner does look great.
95 yard TD runs can't be very common... (Ell :D
-
GT is slipping. That play was only 65 yards.
-
KU getting tired....
-
Their defense is about as bad as ours was last year.
-
Yeah...KU is reeling...they have zero depth...if we have any hope of improvement of our program KU is a must win game.
-
Their defense is about as bad as ours was last year.
KU defense making Cosh look like Dick LeBeau
-
Their defense is about as bad as ours was last year.
Last year's team looks like the 85 Bears relative to this KU defense.
-
wow  @ Chingon
-
wow  @ Chingon
They really did look good early.
-
How is ku supposed to compete against g.tech's tecmo bowl offense?
-
Tough go for the hawks. We know the feeling.
-
. . . building a monster
-
hey EMAW'rs I would wait until after our game tonight before you talk too much crap
-
We're gonna destroy Kent State. It's gonna be a massacre.
-
Another touchdown for hartsfield jackson. :frown:
-
It happens.
I go to Home Depot right at the start of the 2nd half, and I walk back in the door with 5 minutes left in the 3rd and it's 45-17, what the hell happened??
-

KU went from 10 players on D to 9.
-
We're gonna destroy Kent State. It's gonna be a massacre.
I think we will too :crossfingers:
-
This is very fun.

I don't think so. We suck this year.

KU got tired and, therefore, sloppy.

I dunno, maybe we do, but if we do crush them can I count on you?

You've been a real negative Nancy lately, Mr. FFF.
It's unbecoming.
-
Backups in.
Only 40 yards on that rush.
-
Six Hundred and Sixty Six Yards of Total offense for GT . . . 666 . . . :ohno:
-
LOL to anyone who was fooled into thinking KU was decent.
-
LOL to anyone who was fooled into thinking KU was decent.
yeah I admit that NIU game trixed me...
-
They looked good in the first half on offense, and I figured with Al Groh running GT's defense they'd still have some success, but they've done nothing. Typical Chuck Long.
-

I was about to post the same thing. Chuck Long to a tee.
-
From the LJWorld game comment thread in response to a question from a self-described new sqwawk football fan asking if they had ever been good on defense: "D has rarely been KU's long suit. Was pretty good in 1968."
Discussion has pretty much crash landed from bowl game talk in the first half to lynching Gill, questioning Mangino's firing and the cold realization no conference will want them.
-
sheesh, approaching 800 yards
-
Folks,
Settle down here. Gill is a real winner and needs to be given some more time to build things up the right way. It will take at least 5-10 years to build this powerhouse up.
-
Their coach is not showing too much class by running up the score. It will come back to bite him in future games. (I HOPE).
-
13 guys have rushed the ball and GT has thrown 7 passes.
-
LOL to anyone who was fooled into thinking KU was decent.
yeah I admit that NIU game trixed me...
Bob Davis' tears after ku got the lead let me know that last week's game was a really special night for them. Really special. I hope they all enjoyed that victory.

He needs time get a few more speed guys in. He's improved already this yr, not sure why KUfballers are down. It's just one game.
-
Loved Al's :ck:
-
Just went over 600 yards.
Rushing.
-
he's so deep on the depth chart that he's not on the roster
-
May have missed it, but have the 'when's bball season start?' posts been showing up anywhere yet?
-
Should be a good gridiron
-
How's Bob Davis doing?
-
showed a lot of grit at the end - gil's leadership - down 59-17 put together an impressive drive, then stop tech without scoring for the second time in the game. just ran out of time. wish the cats had that kind of grit.
-
Will Chingon and Pike be wearing the clownsuits all day, or just for pictures?
-
:dunno:
I've always admitted when I have been wrong.

Meanwhile, Wisconsin is up 28-7 on juggernaut NIU at NIU (wherever that is)...in the 2nd quarter.
-
Still need help picking the best chance ku has to win the rest of the year, still leaning towards that being the Cats.
-
Are we going to get G-Tech'd @ Miami?
-
Still need help picking the best chance ku has to win the rest of the year, still leaning towards that being the Cats.
yeah could be, they prob won't win a conference game outside of us or isu though
-
Are we going to get G-Tech'd @ Miami?
It's reaally tough to give up 750 yards of offense.
-
Still need help picking the best chance ku has to win the rest of the year, still leaning towards that being the Cats.
Tech or us for sure

-
Maybe mizzou, like win one for the guy who died during MOAP2.
-
This number of big plays is hilarious...
GT:
Orwin Smith 95 Yd TD Run
David Sims 19 Yd TD Run
Embry Peeples 63 Yd TD Run
Orwin Smith 67 Yd TD Pass
Roddy Jones 52 Yd TD Pass
David Sims 21 Yd TD Run
768 Total yds...
-
I think I just saw a GT rb run past my house
-
KU D is legit.
-
7 passes, 768 total yds, 606 rushing yds, etc. Man, the numbers from this game are just incredible.
-
Will Chingon and Pike be wearing the clownsuits all day, or just for pictures?
Yes, confirmed.
-
I was at the game and they announced during it that GT had broken the school record for most offensive yards at 748...

It's also a pretty good time to check out the Nebraska tucks still trying to defend Gill (http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=204&f=4511&t=7937530).
Wonder where all the chickenhawk fans wanting Turner out of town last year are now.
Offense was fine until the defense melted down and the play calling got predictable.
-
GaTech used less that 15% of the playbook
-
Did they even open a playbook? Looked like they just drew up some plays in the dirt during huddles.
-
Very easy to hate right now. If you don't like GIll and what he is trying to put together then you don't see the big picture. Yep, the defense is absolutely horrible and should be held accountable...the offense looks much better than last year and is moving in the right direction. Gill is a stand up guy...he recruits very well...and has some things to learn, but is going to be a very, very good head coach. Again, I love Kansas Athletics, but we can't expect to get proven coaches when we have a vacancy. We get guys that need to learn and hope to hang onto them...we have one in Gill and I hope we hang onto him.
However...the "I told you so" guys will always be there and offer not much more to the program.
-
Ku's signature win really showed up today as well.
Wisconsin 49
Northern Illinois 7
"Wisconsin rings up over 600 yards of offense to pummel Northern Illinois"

He must not have seen Chizik's Iowa State teams. And he must not have noticed the 624 yards that Chizik's defense gave up to Clemson today.
It's really hard to buy new players when the NCAA is breathing down your neck.
-
I saw a ton of progress in Gill's 6-8 year program.
Haters didn't though.

If I had to pick a win, I would probably go with Texas Tech. It's a home game against a mediocre team following a huge loss. KU will probably lose, but I think they have a halfway decent chance of pulling the upset.

600+ rushing yards has to be some kind of record in and of itself
Watched a bit of the ku game. Both GaTech and KU are horrible. KU has the smallest and slowest defense I've ever seen in my life.
-
The worst part of that debacle was our D-coordinator's take on the problems we had on defense. It was pretty much like......"yeah, they schemed us. We knew what they were doing and just didn't make any adjustments to fix it. We thought that if we adjusted we would open up a pandora's box of other problems so we just stuck with the plan."
Um, lolwut? As if "pandora's box of other problems" would have been worse than what we ran out there in the second half. Geez, that game blew nuts.

square pegs round hole. Happens with every coaching change.

Not surprising that you guys would be all :opcat: :opcat: :opcat: after a (black) head coach has had one recruiting class. Remember, Mangino didn't have big-time success at KU until he was forced to fire Quartaro and bring in Warriner. Gill has at least recruited some talent up to this point with guys like JaCorey Shepherd and Darrian Miller.

LOL, wut?
The RP comparos are astounding. At least the "talent" RP recruited was actually legit. Not an undersized 3* WR nobody has every heard of, or a player everyone else recruited as a db.
-
Shepherd was an Iowa commitment and Miller was Rivals top 250. Gill has three 4-star freshmen running back and quite a few good athletes in this year's recruiting class. Your level of :opcat: :opcat: :opcat: regarding black head coaches sickens me.

RB's don't do a whole lot of good when the defense gives up 20 yards a play.

listen beems, we have a 5 star running back on our 3rd string. :kstategrad:

And a 4* rb as our 5th string. (At least I think D Rob is 5th string, he may be lower.)
-
I think Gill might have been caught off guard by GT being so successful while not doing much catching and throwing at all. I expect him to learn from this experience, and KU will be a force to be reckoned with now that he realizes the game is even simpler than block, tackle, catch, and throw.
-

Tech is not mediocre.
In terms of the Big 12, they are very middle-of-the-road. Honestly, if I were in a pool like this and hadn't picked KU yet, I might just save that pick for the final week of the season and hope everyone else gets eliminated before it comes to that. I'm sure they will win one or two more, but I doubt they will be favored in any game from here on out.

LOOKING SOLID!!!
:driving:

I've seen some of the greatest rushing attacks in history mow through crappy and in some cases pretty good ku and K-State teams over the years.
So imagine my surprise (being serious) that in this year, 2011, when I saw that Georgia Tech set an all time NCAA record for the most yards per rush against ku.
If there's one coach in America who could coach up a defense to at least put the breaks on a slot/veer/option attack it's Turner Gill isn't it?
-
The game would have been totally different if it wasn't for Ga Tech's scheming. THEY SCHEMED US!!!

Yeah easily Whitlock's dumbest talking point. At the time of hire everyone, including white people at Auburn hated the Chizik hire. Jason needs to realize the people he is pandering to with talking points like that will always view him as a fat black race-baiter no matter how many Imus' and lacrosse players he defends.

I don't remember what Whitlock said at the time of the Chizik hire, but pointing out Gill's shortcomings to this point is completely fair, especially as a dig on Barkley after his equally fat black race-baiting comments that "race was the No. 1 factor" and his humorously symmetrical suggestion that Auburn should have hired Gill BECAUSE he was black ("it would have created a buzz").
Besides, I'm pretty sure Whitlock joyfully embraces his income-producing image as a fat black race-baiter.

I like how beems is touting kans' RB recruits. if its one thing they need, its more RB's. what a completely mismanaged program. don't they have like 6 decent rb's already? shouldn't they be moving some of those athletes to defense?
-
KU doesn't need DB's when we can RB teams' faces off. Everyone knows the best defense is a long, sustained offense with 18 running backs sharing the load. Actually, we should convert more CB's to RB's so we can get more W's.
-

Not to mention the fact they averaged under 4.0 YPC against a Georgia Tech defense that allowed Mid Tenn St to rush for 5.0+ YPC against them.
And yeah, when you give up an NCAA record 12.1 YPC in one game there really is nothing else that really should matter.

When GT busted off that 95 yard TD run on the first play, it really was something straight out of the days when bad ku and K-State teams would face OU and NU's wishbone and Power I running game.
The difference was the ku and K-State defenses had guys out there trying to do the right things to stop them, last Saturday ku had nothing even resembling a defense that was set up to stop that kind of attack.

Do you really want your coaches admitting stuff like this?
Inside their locker room, the Jayhawks are trying to keep it together. That starts with the coaches, and KU defensive coordinator Vic Shealy knew that in the moments after the game.
Shealy pulled his defense together and told his players what they already knew: He had been outmaneuvered by Georgia Tech head coach Paul Johnson. With a young team, it was important for Shealy to shoulder all of the blame for this one. KU came with a game plan that was too similar to what worked last year, and a few new wrinkles by Georgia Tech rendered the Jayhawks basically useless.
“They kind of knew what we were about to do, honestly,” Patmon said.
Shealy, in his first year as defensive coordinator, showed plenty of guts by facing questions from reporters for about 15 minutes after the game.
“Ultimately,” Shealy said, “whenever your plan gets schemed, it comes back to me. What happened today is on Vic Shealy. I take responsibility for it.”
