TITLETOWN - A Decade Long Celebration Of The Greatest Achievement In College Athletics History => Kansas State Football => Topic started by: felix rex on September 10, 2011, 06:19:38 PM

This is not your run-of-the-mill MAC team. Really more comparable to a mid-tier SEC team if you objectively look at the tangibles.
-
They definitely pass the "eyeball test". These are legit, experienced D-1 athletes. That front seven would have a lot of Big East teams scared.
-
Kansas will destroy them.
-
Listening on the Jayhawk network. Guy said if you slap a Ohio State or USC jersey on these guys you wouldn't tell the difference
Not kidding
-
Kansas will destroy them.
This is not just a bunch of 2 star suburban Chicago kids
-
I think Northern Illinois should expect to win this game. The best MAC teams are better than the bottom-feeders of the BCS conferences.
-
One of their starting offensive lineman is none other than Logan Pegram from Silver Lake, KS!
-
I hope Big 12 fans understand how big a challenge this will be. They're legit. I mean, they're not Alabama or anything, but they're probably on par with a team like Missouri - although they have a much better quarterback.
-
NIU is a GOOD team. The fact that they are in the MAC, have lower rated recruits, etc means nothing. They killed an Army team probably above the level of McNeese State. This will be a very tough game.
-
Any BCS team would have difficulty keeping their explosive offense below 4 TD's. OU may be able to do it, but on a bad night, who knows?
-
I think NIU is about on par with Baylor, Tech and KSU. what we know is they had a very good offense last year and return pretty much everything except their RBs (and RBs are pretty replacable if you have a solid and experienced O-line plus a veteran QB).
-
They also got a pretty highly recruited Running Back out of Hutch JC. Dude was 4* and had offers from ATM, PITT, MINN, NEB, WISC, So CAR etc.
-
"He's out at the 57 yard line!!" - KU radio guy
These guys are terrible
-
Sporting News had NIU ranked 34th in their preseason rankings, with KU at 92nd. The Big 12 should be pretty pleased with a win over a team that they rank ahead of Pitt, UNC, and Texas.
-
"Maybe one of the most experienced offenses in college football"
-
Someone posted Steele's "combined experience" chart and it had NIU as the 26th-most experienced team in the country. A new coach and few returning starters on defense isn't going to make them any worse than KSU, KU, ISU, BU, etc on a neutral field.
-
They won the MAC West and throttled Fresno St in a bowl game last season. They've been to three straight bowls (five since 2004). KU should win at home, but this isn't a game that should make or break a coach.
-
The Sagarin predictor is usually a fairly good approximation of the point spread on games. Using Sagarin, if this game had been played in Lawrence last year Northern Illinois would have been an 18-point favorite. Big win for the Big 12 on the line tonight.
-
Win, lose or draw the Jayhawks should feel like champions after tonight's contest.
-
Looks like a full house in the gridiron club. KU needs to get that big home crowd involved to rattle this QB. He is salty.
-
Way to be out front on this Felix Rex. I can only hope emaj nation read the same before tonight!
-
Emaj nation... Imagination! HCTG should use that!
-
if KU wins its a big win, don't be idiots
-
does NIU have options?
-
if KU wins its a big win, don't be idiots
Yeah this NIU team is tough. They hung like 40 points on Army last week.

Army?!?!? :runaway:
49 points. Chingon is right. Wouldn't be surprised if NIU gets feelers from the Big 10 if they can pull this win off
-
First it was the curse of the "Killer B's". It's going to be more difficult to think of a clever nickname for the curse of the "NIU's".
-
Listening to the KU announcers call the fumble.

Get on it guys!

scoring updates? I don't want to listen to their radio

21-7 NIU

Everyone hear them just announce the Nebraska score as part of the Big 12 scores?
-
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
-
Everyone hear them just announce the Nebraska score as part of the Big 12 scores?
Yeah and they're about 30 minutes behind on the Texas game
-
It would be a very good win for KU, especially at this point in their program.
Ain't going to happen though. NIU is outclassing them all over the field.
-
I had ku picked to win this in the suicide pool, partly because I heard Fitz and the crew state on "The Drive" that ku was a 7-point favorite but that they expected NIU to at least cover and likely win. I later found NIU was the fave and switched to taking my bye this week. It will be devastating to my chances if ku gets the W here. 'grats, 'clams.

It would be a good win for Gill, but not a bad loss.
-
First it was the curse of the "Killer B's". It's going to be more difficult to think of a clever nickname for the curse of the "NIU's".
Don't have any clever nicknames, but I think it's a directional school thing in football... could count in bball too with Northern Iowa
-
this game on tv anywhere? i hope not.
-
THEY OVERTURNED THE PASS PLAY!!!!!!!!!
-
this game on tv anywhere? i hope not.
Fox college sports.
-
NIU seems garbage.
-
NIU seems garbage.
They're D seems like ours last year.
That said, they could hang with Ohio State I'm sure.
-
NIU seems garbage.
They beat Army. :comeatme:
-
What's entertaining but annoying at the same time is listeining to Bob Davis bitch about ku getting called for holding twice "not having to do with the touchdown" that ku scored. Somebody please tell that bitch that holding is holding, and gets called when it happens, whether or not it's involved with the score.
-
I like when the hawks score a lot of touchdowns. But it seems like the other team is also going score a lot of touchdowns. Don't like that as much. Its kinda like a Rocky fight. He punches the other guy a bunch, but god darnit, he sure takes a beating.
-
good analysis babytears. you should be on the jayhawk network.
-
KU is going to destroy us.
-
KU is going to destroy us.
Didnt we already say that a few weeks ago?
-
jfc turner gill has done a good job so far this year

We aren't going to win a single game again this year!! :goodbyecruelworld:

-
Gill is building a monster. A very polite, god-fearing, and abstinent monster who goes to bed at 9:45.
-
Also, this monster isn't allowed to talk to girls after lights out.
-
Score? Time?
-
KU is going to destroy us.
No, denied.
-
Score? Time?
35-35 about 10 left in the fourth.
-
Good Gawd every time something positive for NIU or something negative for KU happens the announcers act completely shocked. "He caught it!?!?!? Oh. I thought he was out?" "A hold on KU?!?!?! It didn't affect the play!!! :shakesfist:" I really wish I could watch this game on TV because these announcers are really making it seem like the Squawks are getting shafted.
-
who has the ball? time? score?
-
Setting up nicely for a field rush.
-
He gets BLASTED!!!!!!!!!!!
...
....
.
...
NOW THEY SAY IT'S A TOUCH DOWN!?!?!?!
-
who has the ball? time? score?
NIU just scored. 42-38 NIU with five left
-
Oh, man. These refs are seriously trying to screw the jayhawks. I'm smelling a screw job coming when KU has the ball.
-
what's going on? following on the phog, and naturally, the refs are rough ridin' hosing them, as per usual.
-

I was gonna add that dandy to the other quotes.
-
I believe KU is using the Ali method. Let NIU punch themselves out and fall into the trap. See Ali/Foreman for reference.
-
what's going on? following on the phog, and naturally, the refs are rough ridin' hosing them, as per usual.
From listening to the announcers it seems like KU is getting the biggest shaft in the history of the world. :ck:

Bob and Max Jr are bitching constantly about the Refs.

Texas probably rigged it to get back at KU for flirting with the PAC-12 so openly.

Rodgers vs Brees part deux.
-
Sloppy game
-
Somebody get a bucket for Bob's tears.
-
Well, there's one of the 3 plays the color commentator wanted ku to run w/25 seconds left - and it being 3rd & goal.

Okay squawk. we actually beat our rivals last year (pretty big in MHK). Maybe NIU is KU's rival now. probably. squawkgon
-
Sounds like I just heard the win of the century against the greatest team of all time. Im super pumped. "They just destroyed Army." :comeatme:
-
"But, they didn't review their touchdown a minute ago!" :bawl:
-
congrats ku, big time win
is there a good damn phog thread i missed?
:dunno:
it IS a good win, they were 7 point underdogs.
KU is a much better team than last year.
-
some of you are in denial, this is a big win against a big time team. deal with it, chumps.
-
not only did they beat the spread :comeatme:
they won
I'm pretty sure the producer of Rudy just tweeted about a new project.
-
this place is full of retards, kstatefans.com is that way -->

KU is a much better team than last year.
I'm preemptively annoyed with our fanbase for excusing Snyder for losing to them this year because we had to play in Lawrence twice in a row.
-
ku, somehow, some way, beat Northern Illinois and the refs at the same time!
-
Oh and Eff Missouri. The Big 12 would be undefeated if it wasn't for those losers. :shakesfist:
-
Big 12 title run?
-
KU's defense might almost be as bad as ours last year.
-
History doesn't have to wait anymore!
-
Big 12 title run?
Think bigger. Amiright, Chingon?
-
Poor turners head was halfway in the noose on that last drive :frown:
-
Big 12 title run?
Think bigger. Amiright, Chingon?
no stop being a rough ridin' Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!)
are you all really so stupid you can't admit KU is better than predicted?
-
Chings, help me pick another game ku will win this year. I just need one. All the games they seem they could be favored in are on the road, sans us.
-
I really doubt we will beat KU this year. Hopefully the cats look good next week.

Well yeah they are probably. Could still only be a 4 win team, or 6 is their ceiling. Next week will tell a lot.
-
Big 12 title run?
Think bigger. Amiright, Chingon?
no stop being a rough ridin' respect
are you all really so stupid you can't admit KU is better than predicted?
they were predicted last. doesn't take a lot to be better than that. sure they are better than last year's team. but it sounds like their defense isn't that good, and their fans were saying how there coaching was terrible. So, in summary, yes they are better than predicted!!! Hang a banner jayhawk nation and chingon!

chingon, our fans want to some how believe that we have a leg up on ku. the truth is, we do not. it's called delusion, and it's ugly.
-
Chings, help me pick another game ku will win this year. I just need one. All the games they seem they could be favored in are on the road, sans us.

I predicted 2 wins. They have 2 wins. So I don't have to admit they're better than predicted.
-
Seems like 54-7 would signify a sizable leg up. :dunno:
-

I think what you're forgetting is NIU lost their head coach last year. He was seen working on a new version of the worm in Minnesota earlier today....But yeah you're right. KU BCS National Champions 2012!!

Their fans are rough ridin' Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!). KU is much better than they were last year. I see them being tough at home and not winning on the road. 5-6 wins.
-
Great win hawks!
-
holy eff, chings, they didn't exactly beat the '85 Bears. Really outing yourself here.
-
This place is rough ridin' horrible already in week 2. Just saying it's a big win for KU gets you mouth-breathers all defensive.
-
:blindfold:
for most of you its tough telling whether you're being a parody of a kstatefan.commer or actually that dumb
-
holy eff, chings, they didn't exactly beat the '85 Bears. Really outing yourself here.
NIU is pretty solid. This win is somewhat similar to our win over UCF last year.
-

In all seriousness what I know is that if K-State just beat NIU 42-38 you wouldn't be saying it was a big win. Just sayin.
-
A big win over NIU Chings? Are you serious? NIU is a decent mid-major team and KU beat them by 3 pts, at home. It's not like they just knocked off Bama or something.
-
Need more clipart Chings.

NIU was favored by 4

And it took a 4th in goal from the 7
Our game vs Central Florida last year was actually a hard fought, well played football game by both sides.
This game came down to who got the ball last.
It's a good win, but I wouldn't be overly excited if I was a KU fan.

I'm not part of the argument about them being better than last year. I'm trying to figure out how to salvage not having picked them in the elimination pool either of the first 2 weeks when nearly every other person in the pool did so. Their remaining home games are Tech, OU, us and Baylor. Plus Mizzou in KC.

mizzou
i think they will lose at home to ttech, OU, and Baylor (unless RGIII is hurt...)

Yeah, the other 6 teams that didn't make bowl games were way better than the 11-3 team with wins over Georgia, East Carolina, and Houston.

Thats the order of the games I would pick for KU to win.

Northern Illinois would beat Eastern Kentucky by 50.

Chingon is a man amongst mouth breathing hayseeds. 10-7.
10-7 or 45-42?
Horrible offense or horrible defense?
Last second win or last second win?
What's more embarrassing... you decide. :ck:
-
Northern Illinois would beat Eastern Kentucky by 50.
They are basically Ohio State.

Not with that defense. They lost to Iowa State last year :sdeek:
-
holy eff, chings, they didn't exactly beat the '85 Bears. Really outing yourself here.
NIU is pretty solid. This win is somewhat similar to our win over UCF last year.
exactly. a real, meh win. they have a new coaching staff, have you and chings never watched college football before?
UCF was our best win last year, hands down.
okay, we've outed another respect
Yeah, the other 6 teams that didn't make bowl games were way better than the 11-3 team with wins over Georgia, East Carolina, and Houston.
Oh, the Georgia team that lost 7 games last year, okay
Yeah, they also won 6. That's one more win than any team other than the Golden Knights that we played last year.
-
Idk about the rest of you but when I looked at KUs schedule NIU was one of the games I figured they would win. I admit I didn't really know much about NIU. I thought they would win their first two and then 1-2 more with the next most likely win being ISU. So I kinda expected them to win. Unlike some retards who apparently figured they wouldn't win 2 games and thats why they are throwing around phrases like "huge improvement" or "big win." Be honest. If you didn't think they would beat NIU then just where the eff did you figure they would get their 2-3 wins? :dunno:
-
K-State football.... 10-7. Eastern Kentucky.

13-1.
Big 12 title run?
Think bigger. Amiright, Chingon?
no stop being a rough ridin' respect
are you all really so stupid you can't admit KU is better than predicted?
chingon, our fans want to some how believe that we have a leg up on ku. the truth is, we do not. it's called delusion, and it's ugly.

and just when I was going to post that the stars were aligning for a triumphant beems return. I thought it would be next week though, especially if we were having trouble with KENT

DeKalb: A Good place to get McDonald's on your way to Chicago from the Quad Cities.
Seriously? You off brand MAC douche bags are gonna come here and talk about it being a bad loss for your minor league team? That's funny. You guys have a nice rest stop though. Seriously, I cannot tell you how many times that big McDonald's/Gas Station complex has provided an oasis for me to piss and buy some snacks on my way to a real city.
KU smack talk vs NIU poster after epic KU win. Funny that it describes Lawrencetucky as I pass through from MHK to KC.

KSU and McNeese State
-
KU's offense is better than KSU's. ku's RB's are better than ours. Not even close actually. And Webb can throw a forward pass so he's automatically better than Klein. NI has a fantastic offense; KU's defense is prolly equal to KSU's.

I think KSU is the better team. I just give KU the edge at home in a rivalry game against a KSU team that is isn't much better than them and beat them by 52 last year.

don't get me wrong, the sunflower showdown is going to be a cripple fight. I'm just saying KU appears to be slightly less Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) than us.
hopefully bill can watch a TON of game tape on Kent State and won't hold his team back again so they'll look super awesome next weekend and I can change my mind.

Yeah, they've scored a total of 19 points in two games. So, even if our offense doesn't improve at all I don't see us losing that game.

I'm not even taking anything from the EKU game. The personnel decisions were just baffling to me, personally. Especially at running back. The only definitive thing I saw was an OL that didn't come ready to play.
Well, I also so a decent defense that actually had a few pass rushers and good linebackers. So, all in all, I wasn't too angry after I finally got to sit down and watch the whole thing from start to finish.
-

Not trying to take anything away from them but take those numbers with a grain of salt considering their schedule. Stats are incredibly misleading.

I'm not really looking for scores. I'm looking to see if our OL can actually get a push and if we're still able to rush the passer effectively.
I also want to start seeing Brown carry the ball more. Hubert is our third best back. I have no idea why Snyder decided to play mind voodoo with Brown and Pease, but it most definitely contributed to the EKU debacle.

Can you imagine the party on Mass tonight?
Hawks win a huge one, KSU struggled against EKU... Man.

When I re-watched I was less angry with Kleins performance, angrier with Huberts and felt B. Brown was by far the best back.

10-7 wouldn't be nearly as bad as something like 45-42. I'm still much more skeptical about the defense than I am the offense. The offense will be pretty good.

hopefully bill can watch a TON of game tape on Kent State and won't hold his team back again so they'll look super awesome next weekend and I can change my mind.
You won't see anything until after Miami. Kent State is horrible. Like...really horrible.
Yeah, I wouldn't take anything from that game unless we actually lose. If we lose, we might not be beating anybody else.
Likewise, if we 10-7 Kent State then we know we won't be beating anyone else
I'm not really looking for scores. I'm looking to see if our OL can actually get a push and if we're still able to rush the passer effectively.
I also want to start seeing Brown carry the ball more. Hubert is our third best back. I have no idea why Snyder decided to play mind voodoo with Brown and Pease, but it most definitely contributed to the EKU debacle.
Just wait till you see Brown and Pease in the Wildcat

KU's offense is better than KSU's. ku's RB's are better than ours. Not even close actually. And Webb can throw a forward pass so he's automatically better than Klein. NI has a fantastic offense; KU's defense is prolly equal to KSU's.
I'd hold judgement till after Miami and after KU plays Ga Tech.
However, as it stands now you appear to be correct.

Yeah, they've scored a total of 19 points in two games. So, even if our offense doesn't improve at all I don't see us losing that game.
Curb your enthusiasm, Kent State's defense picked Alabama off four times last week.

And they got a total of 7 points off of it. Its hard to see Kent State getting more than 5 turnovers, which is what EKU got. Bottom line is there offense is just as bad as EKUs and it's not like their defense can play much better than EKUs did last week.

Do you not understand that they played Alabama? The number 2 team in the country, arguably the best defense in the college football? If the offense doesn't improve we will lose.

Yeah and they scored 12 against UL Lafayette, who has the 102nd ranked defense. I figure our defense is probably somewhere in between those two teams and probably the offense too. So, I would guess we could easily hold them to 10 and the offense will manage to score more than that even with absolutely no improvement.
Oh, and in case you were curious CBS has UL Lafayette ranked 119th.

What does ULL have to do with Kent State picking off the #2 team in the country 4 times, and KSU turning it over 5 times against an average at best FCS team?

We won't throw much more than 4 passes, so there is that. . .

was at the ku-niu game (free ticket of course...everyone in my group had a free ticket).
niu basically runs the tex tech offense. ku played soft and niu threw quick passes and down the line passes all day on them. saw no real pass rush from ku, they looked undersized and niu's wr's were winning every one-on-one. i dont see any improvement from what they were last season defensively.
offensively ku has a solid run blocking line (though they were called for holding like 4 times) and some speed at rb. they run a rather safe ball control offense that should keep the scores more reasonable from last season. also should cut down on turnovers. webb looked solid, he was able to buy time and make some nice throws when he was in trouble. doesnt really have a deep ball and i dont see much from ku's wr's though the TE looks like he can catch the ball pretty well. dont really remember webb running the ball, don't think the coaches really want him too. all in all ku's offense will at least be serviceable if not unspectacular.
in summary i would compare this ku team to our team in '09.

I hope you meant '10 because the K-State D in '09 was light years ahead of this years KU D. The offense on the other hand was pretty effing awful.

was thinking more in general than an exact comparison.

Overall, I'm just really happy with how this thread turned out.

This is one of the two games I thought ku would win this year.
They are done winning this season. Their defense is the worst in the Big XII by a thousand. They're offense is the worst in the Big XII, but only by forty (slightly worse than UT and KSU).
-
Packed house got to see this great win for Turner. On a side note their fanbase is rough ridin' Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!). I have never over heard more assinine crap in one ball game in my life. It's like they have neve seen a football game before.

Good crowd, even considering it was free ticket night.
Were you donning EMAW colors?
Apparently they had over 48k there. at least that's what they are claiming. not sure if they count paid tickets or what.
-
It was a good, important win for their program.
-
In years to come, thousands more will claim to have been there
-
ku Memorial Track, Field and Football Stadium is pretty nice.

It really seems like you guys are nervous, with all of this talk and analysis.
How many votes do you think kU will receive in those 2011 NCAA football ranking poll things this week?
Jayhawk football is back!! :comeatme:

I"m nervous. I don't want to lose to a shitty team.

I think around 6:45 PM last saturday, every EMAW was nervous about losing every game this year. rough ridin' LHC Bill Snyder.
