kenpom has introduced player history pages (http://kenpom.com/player.php?p=6485) so you can now look at an individual player's advanced stats over the course of their career. He also added a comparable players feature (http://kenpom.com/blog/index.php/weblog/free_tim_williams/), which you should see at the bottom of Pullen's page in the first link, showing that Pullen was very similar to Virigina 07's JR Reynolds in style of play and skill level. You can also see that McGrud's numbers from last year (http://kenpom.com/player.php?p=9769) compare favorably to our red headed nemisis from Wisconsin.
I think most of the stat geeks like myself will find this to be a cool, time wasting new feature from kenpom.

ken pom is still my hero. Hope he calls out more media this season.

I had to unfollow Tosh, but it was because he always repeated himself constantly (show locations and what not). conan is pretty bad too.

both of those guys are awesome at twitter. might be in top 10% of good twitters.

-
BITB is not BITB on twitter. Just a bunch of tweets telling people that he is about to go to Smoke and Fire, play at Falcon Ridge, or eat at the 810 Zone.
-
i moved tosh into the top 8% of good twitters about 3 weeks ago, not sure where you've been.
-
hey i just calls em like i sees em
-
anyway, looking forward to this new kenpom feature. :blank:
-
sorry for ruining this thread dad
-
Jay Mohr is pretty awful on Twitter
-
recruitscoop is great.
sometimes the bad ones are ones I like the most. Like Neal Nieves and Greg Swaim. Terrible analysts/commenters/humans, but I can't get enough of their tweets.

conan puts out one tweet/maybe sucky joke a day. It's not like he's clogging your timeline.
Jim Gaffigan is pretty funny, imo.

you want to know what funny man has funny tweets? ask me.

recruitscoop does not eff around at all on twitter. it's just scoop, after scoop after scoop. he never promotes himself. he rarely even promoted his charity basketball game. and the great thing is, he infuriates every adult in the business while doing it.
-
Bill Simmons is awful at twitter

Bill Simmons is awful at twitter
he is just awful. But I followed him on twitter for a while, then unfollowed. Seth Davis is pretty bad too. No idea how he has a job.

yeah, they hate the 16 year old with a goddam CHARITY BASKETBALL GAME TO HONOR HIS DEAD MOTHER.
He did promote himself when he was featured in both the wall street journal and 60 minutes or something within a week. Oh boy, did that piss off the recruitards.

ha, I came on to discuss this
_FAN, he's such a thin skinned baby, I don't know how you can deny that. I don't love Davis but he's absolutely right. Pomeroy just invented beef, I don't know if it was for attention or because he's such a baby that he truly felt "attacked." Seth did nothing to the guy. Ken is no doubt brilliant but he has the greatest need for validation for any cbb media member ever.
-
For the most part, I’ve gotten out of the game of sparring with those critical of analytics. I’ve tried to channel my inner Whelliston with a personal mission statement along the lines of “If you don’t like what I do, just go away.” There are enough coaches and media folks using this stuff that the work has been validated, and I get much more enjoyment out of doing research and interacting with people that are interested in it than getting involved in tedious discussions. If the use of analytics somehow makes you enjoy the game less or you feel like it’s voodoo of some sort, no biggie. There’s room for all of us at the college hoops table. You do your thing, I’ll do mine.
(That said, if any coach or media-type unfamiliar with analytics is willing to meet me even a quarter of the way, I’ll gladly spend time trying to help you better understand what we do and how it will help you. I totally get that this stuff doesn’t come naturally to most people.)
(Oh, also, I know you’re saying “What about Goodman?” The thing is, while nobody would say he’s warmed up to analytics, he’s not truly an analytics-hater. Sparring with him doesn’t feel like work.)
However, I’d like to violate my new mission statement for a second.
What an insecure turd, just crunch numbers and shut up

I don't disagree with anything you said about Pomeroy. He's flat out a weird dude, no doubt about that. But so are Davis and DeCoursy.
The value of looking at advanced stats is clear, (and many national media still don't get it), but the weird egos of the advanced stats dudes is also clear.

Yes to all of the above. I love when DeCoursey gets all high pitched "Now ^wait^ just a minute Stephen I didn't say that"
-
Yeah, I frequently  to Davis and Decoursy. What's weird is that Davis frequently cites kenpom but Ken used Seth as his mark. Goodman trashes Pomeroy personally on a frequent basis but Ken is too scared of Goodman to take him on.

Yeah, I find all of those interactions very entertaining. Twitter is great for this stuff.

They should make Moneyball 2 and feature this saga.

There is a couple of NBA teams that have really bought in to the advanced stats, Morey in Houston is the best example but they haven't really won enough. The NBA is still a league that is dominated by stars at the highest level and officiating has a lot to do with that, imo.

Jay Mohr is pretty awful on Twitter
To be fair to Jay, he's pretty awful everywhere
-
pomeroy has taken on goodman quite a few times.
these media hacks are jealous that coaches respect kenny.

On the topic; is any sports media type worse on twitter than DeCourcy? I suppose there is a reason he writes for the Sporting News.

I look at that all the time. But the players via kenpom is interesting. I also really miss being able to see win probability percentages for future games. I can't find those anywhere.

Conference history pages going back to 2002. Here's the explanation from his blog (which I believe is free): http://kenpom.com/blog/index.php/weblog/entry/conference_history_pages
