Got lots of experience being pro, pretty anti now though.  The laws are too strict IMO, .08 is pretty low, 1 yr DL suspension can ruin a career.  That said, people that are really hammered shouldn't be driving around killing people.

JFC, how much would you have to drink to not be able to pass the breathalyzer at noon the next day?

If drunk drivers only killed themselves, I would be Pro without question.

However, they don't. So I have to be anti...but I do not shed a tear when a drunk driver runs into another drunk driver and there are no survivors.

I learned at drug and alcohol awareness class that generally (and it varies for everyone obviously) your body metabolizes 1 beer/shot an hour after it is consumed.  so, if you drink 20 beers you are going to have booze in your system for the next 20 hours.  my guess is that you don't metabolize as much while sleeping (or maybe more, what the eff do I know).

i would guess he was asked if he'd been drinking and said, "not since last night" and that mumped him.

Bingo.  Been pulled over twice in  :drink: :drink: :drink: :drink: :drink: :driving: situations (~5 drinks).  Both times for semi b.s. reasons (right turn into second lane, cracked tail light), both around 11 PM on weeknights.  Basically cops just pulling me over to see if I was leaving the bar (I was).  Made sure to answer the "have you had anything to drink tonight" question with a casual "no."  They run my information, slap me with a warning, and tell me to have a good night.  Btw, I believe I've now been pulled over 9 times, and have 1 ticket.

answer: a lot but probably not as much as you might think.  don't remember if he was 21 yet or not, either - don't remember if there is like a 0.02 rule for minors or something like that.

True story: had a super aggressive polygraph examiner last year who kept insisting that I wasn't clear on my "involvement with illegal activities." He noted my current work address and asked "you never been to a happy hour after work? Maybe you threw back a couple of martinis on an empty stomach and headed home?"
Me: "Sure. I mean, never martinis, but yeah."
Him: "so you're telling me you've driven drunk?"
Me: "No. I've just driven after drinking. Totally different."
Him: "You do know that tolerance is different from blood alcohol level, right? You could have felt 'fine' but still been over the legal limit."
Me: Um, so driving non-impaired by alcohol is the crime you're looking for?
Him: So you admit you did it?
Me: I'm in no position to retroactively interpret the legality of past actions you just deemed harmless to public safety.

a guy that i know works for federal govt and is supposed to get randomly p tested. anyway he has had his job for a few years and has never been tested while people that he works with have been tested like ten times. anyway, the guy gets pretty trashed on a day in the middle of the week recently and when he shows up to work the next day and is told that he has been chosen. he's given the choice of testing at 9 or 2 and he picks 2 and then goes straight to the internet to research stuff. end of the story is they don't test for alcohol.

Legal limit should be based on driving aptitude.

Too many people who drive sober are 100x more dangerous than the average joe whose bac is .10

It's a rough ridin' stupid law.  Should be called conspiracy to commit a car accident.

I always figured you should be able to test into a certain BA% license.  Like, get drunk, pass a drivers' test, and you are clear to drive up until whatever your % was when you passed.

HAYS — A man who threw clothes and other items out of his car windows Thursday afternoon while leading troopers on a chase reaching speeds of 100 miles per hour was naked by the time he crashed into a semitrailer about 8 miles east of Hays, a Kansas Highway Patrol spokesman said.

"There's never a dull moment out there on the interstate," trooper Tod Hileman said.

Hileman said troopers think they have collected all of the items of clothing and cash, as well as an empty lockbox, that Jacob R. Craft, 21, of Lawrence, allegedly threw from the car window as he drove before the 1:54 p.m. crash on Interstate Highway 70.

Craft was taken to Hays Medical Center for observation following the incident but has since been taken into custody, Hileman said.

Speeding vehicle fled

The incident started when a trooper tried to stop Craft's speeding westbound Oldsmobile Alero west of Russell. The vehicle sped up instead of pulling over, Hileman said.

Troopers pursued the car for about 10 minutes, until the car hit stop sticks placed on the highway near Victoria.

The car kept going on its rims at a slower speed for a couple more miles, until it turned into the median and hit the second and third axle of a semi in the eastbound lane, Hileman said.

Slowed before collision

Hileman said David L. Thiggan, 49, of Salina, the semi driver, saw the car coming and had slowed to about 30 mph before the collision. Thiggan was not injured, according to the KHP report.

Charges being recommended against Craft include  driving under the influence, speeding, reckless driving, fleeing and eluding and aggravated battery, because it appeared he intentionally drove into the semi, Hileman said.

Thiggan wore a seat belt, while Craft did not have his seat belt on, according to the KHP report.

One time I had to watch my friend do a sobriety test. We were on motorcycles and it was the middle of the day, the cop had him standing facing the sun to do that thing where you have to follow their finger with your eyes...she did about half of it with his sunglasses on before she realized she needed to tell him to take them off...then he could barely do it because he had to squint looking into the sun.

He passed.
