Frank Haith... :surprised:

Shapiro also entertained then-prominent AAU basketball coach Moe Hicks in October of 2008, with a nightclub visit that was attended by both Morton and Fernandez.
the whole thing sounds made up, and i don't think they should look into any further.

If it didn't involve Marty checking oil, then the trip to the club never happened.

Haith denied Shapiro’s claims through a University of Missouri spokesman. Morton, who is now at Western Kentucky, didn’t return a call seeking comment.
Move along folks, nothing to see here. :dubious:
-
i wonder if Frank will still walk back on coals now?
-
How could this affect mizzou if he didn't do anything wrong at mizzou
-
Didn't Kelvin Sampson carry some of his crap over to Indiana? I'm pretty sure coaches can be punished at their new jobs, but its just not all that common
-
some media peeps on twitter saying this a fireable offense. :dunno:

If true about Haith, explains why DeQuan Jones was so hard to coach-when u buy em they own u
applies to drew.
-
pffft....
• Shapiro said Haith acknowledged knowing about Shapiro’s role in the $10,000 payment and expressed gratitude to him for it when the two met at David’s Café later in the summer of 2008.
In Shapiro’s words
• “Coach Haith gave me a call, introduced himself. We then struck up a very close relationship. I guess we went to lunch a couple times. Then we spent some personal nights at Solid Gold [strip club] between him and coach Jake Morton, who is the assistant coach.”
• “I gave [the basketball coaches] $10,000 for a player named DeQuan Jones. DeQuan Jones committed to Miami from Georgia. A school in Georgia. I’m not sure where. I never had a dealing directly with the kid. The money was given to Jake Morton at my house. …
• “By the way, the $10,000 they did return to me after I was incarcerated when I became pissed off [at] the fact that they were ignoring my calls. … [Morton] followed one of my security guards up to my mother’s house [and] gave the money to my mother directly.”

I would say that Mizzou wouldn't do it because it would be tough to find a good replacement. Then again, they hired Haith in the first place which wasn't exactly a great hire. Curious to see how Mizzou fans handle it if he sucks this year

it might not be up to Mizzou :dunno:
i really have no clue here. sys?

i'm just guessing, but i'd think if they can fire him for cause they will. if they can't, then they keep him. just guessing though, i don't know how much the money matters to mu, nor how much of this will stick with haith (prwise, not ncaa penaltywise).
i really can't think of anything similar, ever.

winn is usually excellent, but i'm not sure about this. unless the player or asst coach talk (and they have no reason to), it's unlikely that there's going to be any additional evidence beyond shapiro's story. i don't think that will be enough to impose ncaa penalties. i think this is just a pr issue.
but it's a huge pr issue. if they can fire him, i think they will, and probably should. they certainly wouldn't have hired him if this had come out first, and the only real difference between not hiring him and firing him is the money and opportunity cost involved.

gary parrish agrees with you sys...

Unless Shapiro has Haith on tape admitting knowledge of the alleged deal, or unless Haith was dumb enough to leave a paper trail that remains undiscovered, or unless a former player or assistant has proof that Haith was aware of the alleged deal, the main charge against Haith -- that he was aware of a $10,000 payment made to somebody connected to Jones -- will come down to Haith's word against other people's words, and that's why it would be wise to review the NCAA's case against Southern California and former Trojans coach Tim Floyd.
-
I just posted in another thread, but applicable here:
Fescoe said that NCAA stated UM has been looking into this for months now. It sounds like Haith and UM shut the eff up about this when MO was interviewing. Really pulled one over on Alden here.
Alden has to be furious if the timing of this is true.
Gotta assume that Alden is going to exact some sort of revenge here for dragging MU into this.

this doesn't seem quite as tight as the author seems to indicate. the language says any "violation" during prior employment, not any behavior or any accusation of a violation.
still, i'd fire him. his buyout, apparently, is 350k x5 = 1750k. but, i'd assume it could be negotiated down substantially based on the threat of a for cause dismissal.

yeah, even if they had him dead to rights they would negotiate a buyout of some sort.

eff them for getting a do-over on Haith. Still, they'll probably replace him with a bigger loser, which will be fun.

They get a do-over, but how patient are the players that wanted to transfer last time going to be?

i don't think they'd lose anyone if they named one of the assts interim coach. the concern would be recruiting for the 2012 class, but i'd take that hit. the worst case scenario is you can't get decent '12 players in the spring, so you fill up on some one year transfers, jucos and guys you'll run off and let the new coach have more ships in '13 & '14.

Had one of the Yahoo guys on David Glenn's show out of Raleigh, only got to hear a few minutes of it, but the Yahoo guy (Robertson/Robinson) said there is a paper trail that indicates a bank deposit in Shapiro's account for $10K when Shapiro's mom asked the Miami coaches for the cash back when he needed $ for legal bills.

they'd need paper for haith or his asst handling that money for it to mean anything.
