There's plenty of seats on the bus I'm driving. Who's with me?
-Where's he gonna play? No reason to burn it if he's only going to get 3 touches a game.
-Pease and even Harper to an extent are the same type of players.
-Bender won't stay committed to us, so we'll need Sams down the road
-Offense is not the problem this year, we'll score 33+ per
-
there's almost zero chance they don't redshirt sams
-
Bender will stay committed.
I appreciate your invitation but I, respecfully, pass as I'm sticking with Team Play Sams. I want him on the field as a receiver this year.

I'd rather redshirt him than use him as our 7th wide receiver. If Lockett and Cathey are truly ahead of him, there is no good reason to play him this year. He'll be much more valuable his 5th year as a quarterback than his 1st year as a wide receiver. Having said that, if he's good enough to take snaps away from the starters, I'll change my position.

I %100 agree with that.

No thanks, #TeamDSams

The winning must start now, there is no "building for the future" . . . if K-State can't recruit 5 more Daniel Sams over the next few years this staff needs to be fired immediately.
Crap, WTF are some of you waiting on, a glorious 2014 season??
You put the players on the field that help K-State WIN today, not 2 or 3 years from now.

I feel the same way.

I understand your thinking Dax. The notion of greyshirting Mike Moore and the DE from Tulsa makes no sense what so ever, but IMHO Sams is different. We already have players of Sams' ability. Or close to it. Harper and Pease are pretty much the same type of player. Open field make a move type of guys. Sams would only get 2-3 touches a game tops. Offense is not the problem. We have depth all over the skill positions on O.
-
The main point is, does having Sams playing help us win now?
If he doesn't he doesn't . . . then shirt the kid, but don't shirt anybody that will help K-State win right now.

There's more to wasting a shirt than just putting him in for 2-3 touches a game. If he is the QB of the future, then save him for 4 full years as the QB. I just don't agree to playing him in spot duty as a WR just to get him on the field. We already have Pease and Harper doing that. There's just too many players.
**I guess my point is I think Pease and Harper and just as good as Sams. Harper has experience and Pease has the athletic ability. I just favor sittting him for 4 full years as the qb
-
Okay . . . :ck:
But nobody gets a shirt just because they're a Freshman.

You know what I meant.

I'm happy we redshirted Ell even though he probably could have caught a few balls in '99.

Great point, Dlew. We would never have won the Big XII if we hadn't redshirted Ell. I'm switching my allegiances.

I'm sure people will say that the situations are apples and oranges considering the different levels our program was at then and now. That includes things like WR depth and so forth. And there is certainly some merit to that.
HOWEVER, having a potentially great quarterback be in the program for 5 years is a good thing. Using a year of Sams' eligibility at him catching 15 balls or so and being 3rd or 4th on the WR depth chart (tops) just doesn't make sense to me.

I'm 100% on Team Shirt Sams, but if he becomes our 3rd wide receiver as a true freshman, he is an absolute beast and needs to be on the field. Not playing him would be as idiotic as not playing Michael Crabtree his first year. If he's our 6th or 7th receiver, redshirting him is a must. (If that's what you meant by "3rd or 4th on the WR depth chart," I fully agree with your post).

Being the 3rd wide receiver with the offense that we are going to run around Collin Klein isn't all that different from being the 6th or 7th receiver.
-
Collin Klein has tons of experience at WR
-
Bryce, Collin, other RBs are only players who will touch ball, much.
-
I'm on TRS only because I don't think he would help us win any extra games this year at WR and I don't think he'll beat out the starter at QB. If he's good enough to start at either position, then I switch teams.
-
Having Sams play a year at WR vs redshirting would mean his training regimens are likely different. I'd think for QB he'd want to bulk up some, and for WR stay lean and fast. But there is a chance that none of this is true and I haven't a rough ridin' clue what I'm talking about. Actually, probably the latter.
