Title: Old Movies
Post by: _33 on August 05, 2011, 06:08:07 PM
They suck. Like basically any movie made before 1980 is just a total piece of garbage. Why do people insist that these old movies are good? I was reading reviews of The Rise of the Planet of the Apes and all the critics kept talking about how the 1968 version was so good. It sucked. It was terrible. In this thread let's talk about old movies that suck but that people claim are good or better than remakes.

The Longest Yard.

Adam Sandler version was decent.

Burt Reynold's version was terrible. Not funny.

One time someone told me to watch "In the Heat of the Night." It won the academy award for best picture in 1967. So I watched it. It is the worst movie I've ever seen.

I agree. My parents have been sitting around watching "Turner Classic Movies" every night for a decade.

They're terrible. No special effects. No color. Plain boring.

Many of them are rated at 4 stars, but you have to count for what I call "star deflation". Where a 4 star movie in the 50's is a 2 star movie today

"Animal House"

These are both in color, and wildly hilarious. I'd add Caddyshack to that list

When I think of old movie...I think of anything pre-1960. Just my definition though. If that's not the context of this thread then I'll  :cheese:

Pre 1980 is what we are considering old for the purposes of this thread. There were some good movies in the 80's. Zero good movies in all the decades prior.

Star Wars was pretty good. I'm sure there are a couple other exceptions. For the most part, I agree that everything pre-1980 sucks.

i like some old movies.

ten commandments.
marathon man.
sound of music.
the sting.
high plains drifter.
cahill.

but most old movies are so hard to watch.  it's probably not worth it to try and make it through 10 bad ones to find a good one.

I'm going to make my own guidelines and say anything not made in color is old. But I disagree that old movies are garbage.

FYI - All movies now suck.

The only time movies were good was between 1980 and 2000.  All they're doing now is re-making movies from the pre-80's era, and turning every stupid rough ridin' comic book made into a movie.  This is why all movies now suck, that and everyone in Hollywood is the same person, a person that sucks.

Stop being such a rough ridin' dork, and do something else with your free time.

Also, Comic Books are for tools

Some pretty good comic book movies out there.   Sin City, Dark Knight, Kick Ass, Sucker Punch, etc.  :dunno:

A big reason movies suck now is because they're nothing but functions of screen tests with idiots who just finished their Tonight Show Jaywalking interview.  If you like new movies, it means that you have a lot in common with those people.

Love how Chumlee is trying to get all uppity about movies.  Got a news flash for you:  If you don't like any new movies you are a Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) and likely share alot in common with cat ladies.

I thought I was responding to people who get uppity about movies.  I think movies are entertaining, but find "good movies vs. bad movies" talk absurd.

I'm going to have to disagree.

Anyone that actually has the attention span to sit through one of the "movies" coming out lately has to be a simple minded Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!).  I would suggest that anyone falling in this category should probably just go get a ceiling fan or mobile.  You will save crazy bank in the long run.  More money to "treat" your cat with.

The Longest Yard.

Adam Sandler version was decent.

Burt Reynold's version was terrible. Not funny.

Anyone who thinks the Adam Sandlers' version of anything loses instant  credibility with me.  That being said old movies are tough to watch sometimes.  Gaslight is fantastic though.  Anyone like a movie that's older than that?
