OMG

What ? Since they have a few tree huggers and heavy weed smokers (not to mention the sexual orientation confused) in their community they think the fit in well with west coast towns?   .  Hey Lawrence lovers!!! Don't look now but you are smack dab in the middle of flyover country and there is a tractor parked in your driveway.  For christsakes some people are delusional.

PAC12 official: Hey let's give KU a looksie, they might be a good fit. Book me on the first flight to Lawrence.

PAC12 underling: *cough* Lawrence doesn't have an airport that will land anything that doesn't double as a crop duster, sir.

PAC12 official: lol, what a bunch of hayseeds! What about that Kansas State?

Underling:   :AA:

i actually really like lawrence too, but then again i have lived almost my entire life in kansas and ten years in lawrence. it's a really nice kansas town and people that say it isn't are ridiculous. i like it a lot more than similar sized kansas towns like salina. that being said...if i had a room with a door that locked from the outside, a computer with internet access and an entire week of work then i would enter into that thread. i only have the comp and inty though and not near enough time. i also go to phog a lot and that is by far the greatest, most delusional thread that i think i've ever come across. amazing work ku internet superstars.

Agreed.  Lived there myself for 1.5 years and really liked the town.  I would live in Lawrence hands down over anywhere else in Kansas except Manhattan & JoCo.  However, anybody who claims anything more than this about Lawrence needs to get over themselves.

I just don't understand.  I mean, I accept that there are people out there like you, but I just can't understand you.  Can we get to know each other a little better?  How do you feel about Toby Keith?  Do you sport any type of facial hair?  Do you own anything that is camouflage?  I don't understand how anyone else would like this stuff either, so if you DO like Toby Keith, it would make it easier to accept your thoughts and feelings on these locations.

A Fiero? Seriously?  And you want to better understand me? And for the record I HATE Toby Keith but I do enjoy a little bit of country music for a little variety.  I also have had facial hair for the last 20 year and have a pair of camo cargo shorts I wear when I'm constructing pools.  Trust me, you don't want to take a round-house kick in the face when I'm wearing those bad boys.  The Fiero would make a great drinking and driving car but I could never fit in the driver's seat.  Do you know me now?

Any conf that wants Texas is going to want the Cats so UT has at least 1 conf loss every year.  Might be their only chance to keep UT from winning the conf every year.

I don't know if it'd be a factor at all (I'm sure it isn't), but Lawrence would certainly fit in with the other Pac towns.

I had no idea the other Pac towns had Orscheln's, Tractor Supply, John Deere, and Kubota dealers within a few blocks on one of their busier streets.
Interesting.

Nothing surprises me these days.

I read a pretty good breakdown of ku and K-State's financial record by a financial guy in Tuck land.   He pointed out some things I've noticed over the years, and a couple of other things that have come to light lately.   A couple of examples:  ku athletics counts property like AFH as an asset.   How do you count facilities that are technicially state property the moment they are built as an asset for a non profit athletic corporation ultimately operating under the umbrella of a state institution?  In fact Allen Fieldhouse is still technically a Kansas National Guard Armory I believe, at least that's how they got money to build it.   K-State athletics DOES NOT count its facilities as assets.

ku as of the end of FY 2010 had $82 million dollars in liabilities on the books, K-State had $32 million.   K-State had $11 million in bonds outstanding, KU had $45 million in bonds outstanding, plus another loan for $6 million outstanding on their relatively new football facility.   ku athletics owed various departments on campus over $15 million dollars and from what I've heard they still owe ku parking services an a$$ load of money and that's causing a real problem.

Like I've said before, the ONLY reason ku athletics finished the last reported on Fiscal Year in the Black was because of the $3.5 million dollars in student fees and instutional support they collected.

K-State athletics DOES NOT count its facilities as assets.

Why?  I could understand it if the facilities were state funded.  But, the BFS for instance, is 100% privately funded.  Is that technically state property?

Is the meat goat facility counted?
Title: Re: just one year later...
Post by: sonofdaxjones on July 28, 2011, 02:48:27 PM
Anything built on the K-State campus is state property, it doesn't matter how it's paid for.

Those facilities might be under the management of K-State athletics, but when it all shakes out in the wash, it's state property.

That's why when you build anything it has to be approved by the Board of Regents, and go throught the state approval process.

Sorta OT but (I believe) one instance where a privately funded facility could be counted would be WSU's baseball stadium.  Guess it's not technically on campus property, that's why they can sell beer.  At least that's what I've been led to believe.   :dunno:

I just don't understand.  I mean, I accept that there are people out there like you, but I just can't understand you.  Can we get to know each other a little better?  How do you feel about Toby Keith?  Do you sport any type of facial hair?  Do you own anything that is camouflage?  I don't understand how anyone else would like this stuff either, so if you DO like Toby Keith, it would make it easier to accept your thoughts and feelings on these locations.

See, this is why people lol at lawrence.  Lawrence is a farm town with a college and an old downtown that someone threw a brewery and a used clothing store on.  Just like Ames, Manhattan, Lubbock, Stillwater etc.  Putting an Arizona trading company next to a coffee shop doesn't make you Chapel Hill or Ann Arbor.  There are plenty of Toby Keith fans in lawrence who will all be at Arrowhead this weekend to groove to Uncle Cracker and sing all the 2 Zac Brown songs they know.

Look.  My dick is bigger than yours.  When I point this fact out, it doesn’t mean I’m saying that I’m Rasputin or anything.  Please try to follow.

I, like anybody with any self respect, haven’t been to Manhattan in quite a while.  Maybe it got a lot cooler in the past few years.  I don’t know.

People only become powercats if 1- They like country music, 2- They are ugly and too smalltownish, or 3- Are too intimidated by Lawrence/KU.  These are facts that can’t be argued.  Anyone claiming anything different is a lying liar.

2010-2011 Kansas resident enrollment at ku?  17,693.  13,000 from 5 Kansas counties, 500 transfers from JCCC to JCCC-L.

KU and K-State are the same. K-State gets more country hicks. KU gets more white trash. K-State's hicks win awards. I'm sure if there were an award for sweetest mullet or best denim shirt, KU would win national championships in that just like K-State wins them for crop judging.

For instance Lawrence is basically just like Berkley, except completely opposite in every imaginable way.

It reminds me of Palo Alto, if it were completely different in every single way and full of hicks with no money.

Eliminate the Space Needle from the equation and Lawrence is virtually a carbon copy of Seattle.

Well you can't.  Not exactly.  But you can park your car (Dad's old Toyota Avalon from highschool) near Memorial and walk down "the hill" to a blue pleather barcalounger.

It's really all the same, though, if you're wearing a crimson cardigan adorned with a Jayhawk sticker/button.  I'm pretty sure that's what they do at Stanford, right?

I always enjoy picking apart the ku tuckville talking points that they're hammering on right now in their "we had options" thread.

-ku is a large and diverse university they claim:  kulc Fall 2010 total Enrollment: 26,266 (18,147 resident, 8,119 non resident)  K-State Fall 2010 total Enrollment 23,588 (17,170 resident, 6,418 non resident).

% of Enrollment listed as non-white/unspecified:  ku 24%  K-State 21%

Total enrollment from the 2 largest minority groups in the United States:  African American- ku 858  K-State 993.  Hispanic- ku 1,193  K-State 1,077

International Students:  ku 2,135 K-State 1,812

ku has a lot more diversity in its cirriculum offerings, K-State is just an agriculture college:  21,333 out of 23,588 students at K-State in the Fall of 2010 were not enrolled in the College of Agriculture.

IMO, for KU to remain in a BCS conference we must seperate from k-state. No conference will want two schools from a small midwestern state with a declining population growth outside of Johnson County. And no thanks to the Big East with KSU. That has "Death Trap" written all over it. The BE will be about as unstable as the Big 12-2 before all this is over with. k-state brings nothing to the table and adds nothing you don't already recieve with KU in terms of TV sets. The KS BOR must face reality and realize this state doesn't have the population to recruit from and support two BCS schools especially in football.

I particularly liked the part where they advocated making a conference move quickly and secretly, before the Board of Regents and Kansas Legislature could get involved. Because, y'know, they're such a superior institution that they can tell the state entities that govern them to go eff themselves.

it's a really nice kansas town and people that say it isn't are ridiculous. i like it a lot more than similar sized kansas towns like salina.

Most of those retards don't seem to comprehend that having 2 BCS programs brings a lot more sports revenue into the state than one.  At their level of thinking, if we shut down K-State, everyone would suddenly be jayhawk fans.  I consider that reasoning to be breathtaking in its inability to understand Kansas sports.
