so I still haven't bought a new laptop and I played with a Macbook Air at the Apple store so obviously I love them now. They look so damn cool kid'ish. The most elite airport people have them. Plus I saw this:
http://gizmodo.com/5823364/the-13+inch-mba-burns-the-fastest-2010-macbook-pro
It would be about $1600 for the high end MBA. What are the main issues I will run into when switching to a Mac for the first time? Is my home network going to be all mumped up? I won't be able to share stuff from my other laptops to the MBA over the network will I? Will my WD TV Live media streamer thing be able to pull video and music from the MBA to play?

goEMAW will no longer work

goEMAW will no longer work
saul, download the mac software to our servers immediately
-
submit a ticket to the helpdesk
Shouldn't have much trouble switching fwiw, they make Macs for idiots so everything should work ok out of the box. Maybe not the WD live but i'm sure you will buy an AppleTV next
-
don't forget all the best turntable.fm DJamer's have macs.
can you have foobar2000 on a mac?
-
I experienced no issues with the transfer to Mac other than the little quirks with the touchpad and function keys. I got Mac/Microsoft office package and it works like a charm. Plus i look elite as balls in the airport with this badboy. Wan't to set my work PC on fire every morning. LOL at my Dell Latitude E6400

I went into the "atmospheric" turntable room the other day and every one of the DJs had a mac. I lol'd at this and nobody there laughed. hurt me bad.

alls i have to say is lulz were had when i reds this thread.
fwi, also getting that same model myself. the new feature Airdrop file sharing won't work since it only works with other machines running Lion but like saul said everything else should be fine.
you won't have to change your home network at all. WD TV Live works with OSX.

I just got the 15" MacBook Pro. Love it. I didn't have all that stuff on my old HP, so I will be of no help to you in any of the questions that you have.

have a feeling this is going to end w/ a lot of help sd threads

have a feeling this is going to end w/ a lot of help sd threads
I'll keep them all in the help sd (mac related) master thread

Made the change earlier this summer, SD, and I haven't looked back once. I don't really know all the crazy crossover integration stuff (no iphone, etc.), but it's still pretty great.

not a mac guy but the Macbook Air is pretty effing elite looking in almost every way. Unfortunately this frugal sob refuses to pay that kind of money for something that will never be used even remotely, to it's full potential. Kind of like dropping a few grand on a vacation and sitting in the room checking work email the whole time. :goodbyecruelworld:

Its not even the thinnest ultrathin, nor was it when it first came out.
-
I can't believe their laptops still do not have a full size keyboard yet.

$1600? seems like a great investment. congrats sd!

I like the samsung one a lot too but it's more expensive for what you get hardware-wise. Really bizarre saying that about a pc v. mac.
-
I don't see how it isn't a waste of money. Especially for the extreme couponing thread guy.
-
chum1, did you see how hip it makes you look if you have one? have you walked into a mac store and played with one and felt that hipness? wow.
-
Not sure that using a laptop so that others can see you using should qualify as hip.

I'm not 100% certain you are up to speed with what qualifies as hip these days. Using your parameters you've ruled out 90% of your opportunities to be hip.

PC people are more likely to be team players, better at math, introspective and conservative (in politics, art and food -- preferring white wine, strawberry daiquiris and sweet snacks over Mac fans' love for salty things, red wine and gimlet cocktails), according to the survey. Mac people also find it important to be considered unique, which may be the driving personality trait that informs many of their choices in art, food, and even media.
Those Mac users are such individualists! Oh wait....every Mac looks exactly the same

true story.
i was in the apple store in santa monica (third street promenade), just browsing different cool apple stuff. well, i bought a badass mac book pro. and yes it was the 15 inch model and yes it DID have the 256 gb ssd. anyway, i got through the check out line, which oh by the way doesn't exist. because any dude there can just scan that crap right there and you pay him, no, they don't have you walk up to some old school register lulz.
so i paid for that crap. while i was paying for it, these two hot models, i'll call them "10" and "10.5" - (both named after their hotness on a scale from 1-10), they were staring at me. they followed my out of the store and into the parking garage on Second Street, between Arizona St and Santa Monica Blvd. both 10 and 10.5 followed me all the way to my car when they started tearing off my clothes. i put the new apple mac book pro w/ 256gb ssd into the back seat and the three of us then began a menage a trois. then we had a three way. rough ridin' awesome. afterwards i walked down to Britannia British Pub and got some fish and chips and a ice cold hard cider and a shot of rumple. good times. very good times.
-
i'm serious when i say that type of crap happens all the time to people who buy/use apple stuff, especially new apple stuff. enjoy.
-
Best computery thingy decision I have made. I am sure my Mac can do all kinds of cool stuff, but the best thing is that it works all of the time and doesn't ask me a bunch of questions when I click things.
:kstategrad:

i am glad basically everyone in my family has a mac now, because helping all of those dumbasses with their computer problems before was getting unmanageable. i haven't heard any of them complain about not being able to do what they used to be able to do (email, look up crap on the internet, itunes, youtube, etc).
disclaimer: i own macs and pcs and generally dgaf about which people like more. i'm just glad i have more time to bbs now that i don't have to answer stupid questions all the time nowadays or fix their internet explorer going straight to gay porn sites.
ps - if trim's router was a mac or something we probably wouldn't have to fix his router all the damned time, in my estimation. saul, please install an old mac as trim's router

I have no problem with people who use macs. I just have problem with macs. Mainly when I have to use them for work. I'd love a 17" MBP with a full size keyboard and a better graphics card.
-
actually saul, just download the mac router to trim's router and load his server with the mac router.

i can't believe apple got rid of Front Row for OS X Lion :curse: :curse: :curse:
it was the most simple way to enjoy movies / music from across the room with my 24" iMac and Apple Media Remote.
I guess i'll try Plex.....anybody tried it? :ck:

mocat, I apologize for not being more familiar with you as a poster. I am intrigued by your Martavious Irving appreciation. I too like him, just curious what makes you like him that much.

yes but Apple changed the way your iTunes library is accessed with iTunes 10.4, so the Front Row hack cannot access your iTunes library.
Plex is pretty awesome so far though, must admit.

Macs are great computers if you're a 10 year old girl that takes thousands of pics with friends, or an obese 12 year old dork that needs an online gaming edge. It's a rough ridin' toy. If a toy is what you want then get a mac.
If you need a computer for work, the web/email buy a pc and stop being a dumbass.

First of all, bitch, pc stands for personal computer
Second of all, bitch, if all you want to do is ruboff on the web, buy a rough ridin' tablet.
Third of all, bitch, I am self-employed.
Fourth of all, bitch, I don't know why you feel the need to constantly attack me on the interwebs. Your personal infatuation with Sugar Dick is creepy. I only assume it's because you're a male genitals thirsty bitch who also likes sweets, that or a really bad sock. Tortuga, is that you?
In any event, your song Betty Davis Eyes is excellent.
