JACKHARRYKSHB JACK HARRY
Another blow to KU football. Dreamius Smith, Wichita RB, has failed ACT too many times. Off to Juco after attending summer classes at KU.
How low does your score have to be to "fail" the ACT? Like, 0?

I used to clerk at my high school's Academic Advisory office and the lowest one I ever saw was a 13.
The ACT isn't really a pass fail type test. I'd guess to gain admission into KU (as an athlete), you'd need at least a 16 or 17.

Graduates of accredited high schools must meet one of the following three requirements
Achieve an ACT score of 21 or higher OR
Rank in the top 1/3 of the class in the 7th or 8th semester OR
Achieve a 2.0 or higher on the precollege curriculum
SO: ACT doesn't matter in the least (aside from merit scholarships, etc.) if you have a C average in high school, or finish in the top third of your class in either the first or second semester of your senior year.
-
Major blow to their conference championship hopes.
-
Dreamious might be one of the best football names I have ever heard of
-
Mangino would have made damn sure that test got passed.

Bill Self would have sent the CIA in an "offed" the proctor if he didn't give him a perfect 36

That's just for normal students. Do athletes have to meet that same standard?
-
kid would've been the michael bishop of running backs
-
Yeah, you have to meet the requirements for the school but they may be different than what the NCAA requires. The NCAA uses a sliding scale based on your GPA. For example, if you carry a 3.55 or higher, you only need a 37 (composite) ACT score. The lower your GPA, the higher the ACT score you need.

You only need to be better than perfect?
-
Combo of the individual scores- math, reading, science... I think there's a fourth? Can't remember, I took the ACT a long time ago.
-
Also, composite may not have been the right word to use. :drink:

English is the 4th.
-
ACT is a hard test.
-
pretty sure I was hungover for it and it still went alright :kstategrad:
-
amazing that he was able to get such good grades and yet fail the ACT so miserably and so many times. what a weird dichotomy in knowledge. i'm shocked.
-
"we've got Sims. this doesn't hurt much. our stable of RB's are more than enough to compete" - phog.net

What GPA did he carry? I don't think I've seen it yet.

6.5 composite over the four years

So I said composite instead of combo. Cut me some slack you SOBs! :shakesfist:

When I was in the 7th grade, I got a letter from Duke inviting me to take the ACT. I took it and scored a 21. My parents were so proud. I bet they were way prouder than Dreamius Smith's parents.
-
did therapy on the guy last summer a few times when he came into the PT clinic. Dude reaked of weed every time he came in. Just sayin'. Also told me that he wanted to come to KSU because he thought we were a better team but didn't think he'd get to play much behind all our good RB's. Made me feel good to hear that.
-
Got an invite from Duke in seventh grade for some awards deal because of my score one the SAT. Guess it was in the top 50% of college bound seniors. Think it was a 1000, not sure though. I didn't go but I went to the state one at ESU. What a nerdfest that was.
-
He's probably a really smart dude... Just a bad test taker. Love you Dreamyous!
-
ADHD
-
Those tests are culturally biased.

pretty sure everyone on this board did that

I took it in Manhattan. I hated it. I felt like a Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) with all these high school kids looking at me like I was a freak. I also had a really bad runny nose and no tissue or kleenex so I kept sniffing. I just hurried through the test, answered everything with C, and left. Then the kid I came with threw up in the car on the way home. When I got home that night I played some WWF on my Nintendo.
-
I didn't take the ACT until I was a junior in high school, and I scored a 28 :embarrassed:

You have to hold that C average on a certain set of classes. They're not required classes in high school though. So he could have a C average, but didn't take the precollege curriculum you have to take to meet that requirement.
-
Could be he got an F- on the ACT

Exact same here. score, grade, duke, etc.
:highfives:
-
regardless of his academic standing, at least he was able to get into the university of kansas and take some classes this summer. here's to hoping he left the university a better man.

Guilty

K-State would have found a way to get him in.
Remember this recruits who have a hard time with tests.
-
why not just stay at KU and finish his degree?
there are more than 380,000 student-athletes and most of them go pro in something other than sports.

Maybe he just can't afford it? KU is a very expensive school; that's part of why people think of it as the Harvard on the Kaw.

i can't imagine KU would just kick the kid out on the street. with the size of their endowment they would have found scholarship funds for him. had he just asked.

LOL, the Harvard on the Kaw is not some charity that is just going to go giving out money to a kid who scored an F- on the ACT. You have to get at least a C- to qualify for hardship scholarships.
-
the ACT is only one measure of student's potential academic success.
-

I did the Duke one in junior high, but don't feel bad; I got the same score my junior year too. I then retook it my senior year but I had a raging flu at the time and managed another 28. :dubious:

I highly doubt that. I'm definitely willing to bet HuskerPride and Fake Sugar Dick did not.
-
Gill and the hawks will be fine. Did you see what he did at Buffalo. Worked a miracle.
-
Duke started sending me letters after my IQ test in second grade and subsequent skipping of third grade....#winning.

How are you able to enroll and take college courses if you didn't pass one of the exams to get into said college?

There must be some incentive for the college. Either it's easy money or they are cheating.
-
Prolly enrolled as a guest student. I did the same thing while taking college courses while still a high schooler.
-

You don't have to even take the ACT to get into KU if you can carry a 2.0 GPA in a curriculum set forth by the Kansas Board of Regents. It's possible that he met the admission standards of KU, but couldn't meet those of the NCAA.
-
wut.
-
Pretty sure you still have to take the ACT. You may not need a specific score but I believe you still have to take it.

Any reason for this unsubstantiated gut feeling?

Well, he did take it. He also failed it. Considering how much harder it would be to combine your ACT scores into an 86 than it would be to get a 2.0 GPA in high school, I can't believe this doesn't happen more often.

kutuckville doing a lot of explaining, really delving into the whole, "some guys can have trouble on tests" issue.

Why can't they just admit that the kid may just be dumb?

Nope, he just has trouble taking tests.
