well sure, the private sector won't raise your pay. Why should they? You have no bargaining power.

Wrong, it's called "other people's money".  Why wouldn't you give the people around you an 86% raise if it isn't your money and you're accountable to no one.

also, the Congressional increases in salary pale in comparison to how the Top 10% have fared the last three years.
