I was trying to play a DVD on the computer for the kids to watch and the audio is jacked up. Music and sound works but the dialog is really quiet like barely audible and if there is music and/or back ground sound you can't hear the people talking. Is my sound card just jacked or is there a setting somewhere that I can adjust to make this work better?

What software are you using to play the DVD? Windows Media Player? WinDVD? CyberDVD?

i'd try the "volume" setting.

If the DVD has an option in the menu to change from 5.1 sound to 2.0 or stereo, do that.
I want your kids to enjoy the motion picture, assuming it is appropriate for their age and maturity level and is not morally objectionable.

Are all of your speakers plugged in?

It's a laptop so we tried it with just the built in speakers and also muliple different (3) speakers. Always the same sound was fine but the voices/dialog was faint or missing.
