WTF is up with Currie? He is going to drive HCFM away and fast. Not sure if this is new news on the chat board but Currie fired upwards of 10 employees on the athletic staff and one of them was Kurt (Franks right hand man to the media and donors). Not only did he fire Kurt but did it when he was on vacation thru a letter. As most of you know HCFM has discontinued all contract talks with KSU because Currie keeps shooting down what Frank wants for a contract (which from my understanding is $900,000 per year with a $100,000 increase for every year left on the contract). And now Currie has said NO to the raises that Frank wants for the assistants. Frank will win the Big 12 coach of the year and will be at least a finalist for NCAA Coach of the Year and then WTF is Currie going to do. Someone will come in and offer Frank $1.5m a year and we will lose him. If this crap happens i will drop every ticket i have and every $$ i give.
Someone please give me some good news!!!!!!!!!!!!

Firing by letter is a horrible, period. If this is true, we don't need someone lacking spine to that degree running our AD.
I hope you are wrong with the rest as well.

What size does Currie wear? Might make a good present.

What does Schulz have to do to get some hate directed towards him around here?

this is a fact of the world economy. I'm sure Curry nor Shultz wanted to do this, but it was necessary.
-
Why does Schulz need to take any heat?? He's trying to manage a school in a state that pretty much turned its back on higher education a long time ago.

seems like he's trying to raise money, that's probably what he needs to do right now
-
Explain to me how the hell you raise money by firing Kurt (who was a fantastic Assistant AD) and not even trying to keep HCFM and his assistants?????????
-
I'd also like to add that 90% plus of the things I've heard about Kurt McGuffin have not been positive.
What's funny is, there are so few people seeing the correlation of the new blood that's been brought in, and the dismissal of folks. How anyone couldn't think that there would be some more folks shown the door is beyond me.

Both Schulz and Currie are simply running a biz. No doubt that they are hit just like my biz is.
What I don't like is this:
Currie is given a budget of funds from the Uni to operate within. Anything additional to that has to come from fundraising. When Currie was first hired, all we heard was how much he increased Tenn's fundraising and how he will do the same for us. However, we are struggling to get an additional $400k for Frank and co. Where is his fundraising magic when we need it.
Anyone have insight to how fundraising is going?
-
Again I ask . . . why are people placing the dismissal of folks squarely on the shoulder of a lack of funds. Any of you folks ever here of a smokescreen??
How do you bring in the number of new senior administrative personnel tha Currie has brought in, and then keep every one of the existing senior administrative staff on top of that??
You can't . . . this isn't hard.
-
Not sure if this is new news
it is news..
if...you don't read goEMAW.com, everymanawildcat.com, ksufans.com, The Manhattan Mercury, The Kansas City Star, The Wichita Eagle, the rivals boards, scout....or have any friends who check up on KState sports news on a daily basis.
Sorry, just felt like being a complete jerk today. Kinda liked it.
-
Cuttin' the fat to strengthen the muscle. Need the money for the $20 million bball facility and coaching pay raises right?

*sigh
he didn't fire them by letter. They've been held in private meetings for the last three weeks, which notifications about possible cuts for months. (prior to the Holidays)
I the timing is horrible...but Currie is trying to get everything squared away before the end of the fiscal year.
btw...The story gets taller each time I read about it on the boards. for instance, nows its 15 people..and fired by email...and let go without pay and benefits. Just hilarious.

Yeah, this makes a ton of sense. It seems pretty clear a lot of people were probably told when Currie was hired that cuts were coming, new people would be brought in, and in time changes would be made. Then folks would have a chance to prove their worth. Its looking like this is one of the key cutting points.
And I don't see why anyone would be surprised by changes being made within the first year after a completely inept running of the athletic department, especially the last few years.
IMO, this is completely unrelated to Frank/staff, etc.
The key will be the response, ie; a lot of this is being done in order to help keep Frank/staff. OR all this is going on, so we can't keep Frank/staff.

are you a rough ridin' idiot?

Along that line, do you think there is any correlation to the fact that part of McGuffin's responsibility, before he was let go, was "helping lead the department’s major gifts efforts"?
-
John Currie is running things similar to how Jamie Pollard began running (ruining) ISU in 2005. I seriously hope you guys can notice the similarities and call him out... we never caught JP's bluff.

Along with hiring Laird Veatch.

Sorry, I guess I don't see how trying to increase revenues solely by raising tuition is an innovative concept. Or how reducing the athletic department budget by 10 percent per year is going to do anything to solve the greater funding problems the school is facing.
-
now he's got to be innovative too? i thought this was about freeing up cash and spending it the right way?
-
Let's see:
1. New Senior Assistant AD/Chief of Staff
2. New Assistant AD for Business
3. New Senior Assistant AD for Capital Giving.
4. New Associate AD for Compliance.
5. New Regional Director of Development for Kansas City
Where does Kurt McGuffin fit in now??
For all we know McGuffin was taking Vacation to interview for another job someplace else.
Real World people, try it sometime.

Pretty sure this is the only means Shulz has to raise revenue, or even to keep up with inflation for that matter. He can't single-handedly force the legislature to stop making cuts to the school's budget.

Admittedly, I know nothing of our sub-Ad staff or their strengths/weakness.
Also should point out that I could give a crap about who Currie hires and fires and wasn't addressing that. Currie's staff is Currie in most folks' eyes. He should form them how he wants, given that.
-
I'm not sure how things are done at KSU, but I do know how they are done at MU. When a coach's contract needs to be bought out, or a coach needs to be retained with a new, much larger contract, 5-7 individuals are contacted and asked to write the check. That's it. It's that simple. I'm sure KSU has the same ability...I can't imagine the big donors aren't ecstatic about the bball success under Frank and one (or more) of them will anty up. I'm not worried....Frank will get his contract.
