Title: Evening
Post by: _33 on April 28, 2011, 03:30:47 PM
What time does evening start? I want to say 6 but I have a hard time calling anything past 5 afternoon. Maybe it depends on the season?

After dinner imo.  Dinner is the break between afternoon and evening.  So, whenever you get done with dinner would be my take.  If you don't eat then my fall back would be whenever the sun touches the horizon.

Evening is the period in which you slip into your smoking jacket and retire into the study with a glass of cherry and a cigar.

No. It was a trick question and you all fell for it.

Evening starts when the average person in the world eats dinner. It is based on that specific time. So you find out when everyone eats dinner, average the times and that specific time on the clock is when evening starts. This way it is not subject to outliers and anomalies in peoples eating habits nor is it subject to the season. boom.

So not really a trick question. But a hard question.

Chingon absolutely owned this whole thread. It definitely depends on the time of year (also, daylight savings).

Let's be honest, anything after 11am has a real afternoonish feel to it and we can feel comfortable subverting the denotation to fit our needs.
