Mine was last week. On 435 at ~5:30 am. Storming. Just gotten up to about 60-65 mph when the back tires on my car skidded out and I fishtailed 45 degrees to the road. Steered into it and got 45 degrees the other way. Eventually got it corrected after several more fishtails. Only other vehicle in the area was a semi in front of me.
I was all  :ohno: :ohno: :ohno:  :gocho:

two high-speed wrecks on my bitchin' scooter that I don't have anymore

Have been in 4 roll over accidents. All pretty meh. One time I was so sick I thought I was going to die. Was very upset that nobody was helping me. Later I realized I was just a stupid little kid.

One time when I lived at Chase and was riding my bike to class down the super steep/awesome hill, I got up to full speed and was going about the same speed as the cars around me when my shoe lace got caught in the gears and kept getting tighter and tighter....
Locked some things on the bike up. Going real fast. made a full brake stop and fell on to the side of the road.
Thought for sure I was either going to get Car'ed to death, or wreck and die(no helmet for me) before I could stop.

I would have died in my scooter crash if I hadn't been wearing a helmet. for sure.

Flight from ATL to DFW. I swear to god this dude had never flown a plane before. Kept tipping the wings at ridiculous angles when trying to land. I've never had a fear of flying but that prick scared the crap out of me.
-
Have had a few close calls in the snow on I-70 going through Topeka. Was nearly blasted with a shotgun pheasant hunting as well.

Plane story:
Taking off from Gulf Port, MS one time on a small prop plane, the captain came on, after trying for a long time to get the right engine to start, and said "We will be changing planes since we can't get the right wing engine to....oop, there it is... we will be taking off in 15 min".

When TP showed up at MOAP.

Definitely.
I basically ended up laying on my side, along with my bike, tied to my gears via my shoe. It took a while to get my shoe separated from the bike.
Not my, or my bike's, best day.

Great thread.
Working at KSU feedlot, last day of the summer (my last day) was running along a cement feed bunk ahead of the tractor pulling the trailer. I tripped on some grain on the lip, falling into a feed bunk with my head hanging over the lip. Looked back and saw the corner of the trailer coming toward me, then stop. The driver was a farm vet practicing defensive tractor driving. I was a city slicker taking needless risks.
Lesson learned. Farming for farmers, advanced degrees and desk jobs for city folk.

Jumped out of the back of a pickup as it rolled onto its side going about 50mph on a gravel road. Landed on my feet and slid a ways holding on to the bed of the truck. Let go and slid on my ass a ways coming to a stop right beside the roof of the truck. Watched it teeter just a bit and then settle on it's side instead of rolling completely over and smashing me. Scraped up pretty good but walked away.

(during the same storm that took former DC Phil's wife) was working construction on the east side of town in a huge metal building, we all decide to get to a safe place, coworker was getting the final load of material off the roof using a cherry picker. He overloaded it, couldn't reach the controls and got stuck somehow, 20-30ft off the ground. Lighting and rain all around us. Dudes started trying to override the controls at the base, didn't work. I climbed up the arm of the cherry picker like those lumberjacks but without a rope or spiked shoes or anything helpful. Reached the basket and controls and was able to bring it down, but damn. [this should prolly go in my "cool crap you've done that nobody else cared about" thread] I have no idea if I could've died by lighting climbing on that thing or dying by falling off, but I like to think I would've.

Woke up in a hospital in lowrents one time... No idea how I got there.
Thought I was dying.
-
Several climbing and car accidents.... There's probably been several times I was fairly close to dying but didn't know it... when I was born it took the doctors like 3 minutes to get me breathing, so there's that.

Is this hell? No, it's Lawrence. Seriously though- I was driving on I-70, west of Denver one time in some serous rain/snow/fog crap. Couldn't keep my car under like 75 without riding the brakes. Was pretty sure I was going to die. Turns out I have an irrational fear of driving in the mountains.

Does anyone else find "almost dying" stories boring as crap? I hate when I have to listen to them in real life. That and people telling me about their dreams. We know the outcome.
-
I OD'd once. Was a really shitty weekend. for all involved.

11 September 2001 plaza riots in Chile. Was stupid American tourist that thought it would be fun to watch protests commemorating the assassination of a president/beginning of a dictatorship. Police with batons/shields arrived. Things were thrown. Fights broke out. Molotov cocktails were lit. Stupid American tourists hauled ass the eff out of there. Got back to house. Turned on news. Saw "other" 9/11. Big day, all in all.

also, one time I had a canker sore that I thought was mouth cancer. very distressing.
-
Have had three surgeries. Blanked out all 3 times. Scary stuff.

You should have put that you were almost "bored to death" while reading this thread. That way you could have expressed how you feel but also contributed to the thread.

You don't get to stop with just that.

Honestly, being at some sort of social engagement with a bunch of people makes me feel like i'm going to die. I want to escape ASAP.

Same. Doctors had to slam me on tables to get me to breath. I was completely purple and my parents thought "If he dies at least we knew he was EMAW".
