And don't be all, "none! lolololol!"
Also, don't say any of the KROCK hits from Appetite for Destruction, because that will prove you are a dumb rube. If you must name something from Appetite, at least say Mr. Brownstone.
:users:
The guitar-worshipping child in me can't say anything but "November Rain," but the current rock and roll pragmatist in me thinks maybe "Knockin' On Heaven's Door."
("No, but SkinBen, the Dylan version is so much better!" No it isn't. The Dylan version of anything is pretty much always made better by the covers. Know why? Dylan wrote great skeletons of songs, but that's it.)
I might also be swayed to say "Civil War." Holy crap. I think I'm gonna amend my answer to that. You know why? Because what....we've got here, is.............................a failure...........to communicate.
-
Anything on Chinese Democracy is golden, in my book.
-
Probably, like, the best album of all-time.
-
I like Civil War a lot. I don't think it is my fav of theirs, but can't really pick one out of my top 4 or 5.

Isn't that a cover? IMO it shouldn't be eligible for "best song" if it is, but I can't remember if it is or not.
IMO: Night Train

Estranged. And it's not close.
-
yes it is

Estranged. And it's not close.

Civil War
-
I actually like Mr. Brownstone. I can't say that about most of their other songs.
-
Close race between 'Pour some sugar on me' and 'Here I Go Again'
-
:curse:
-
I like Patience also, but mostly because the whistling is catchy.
-
PATIENCE!
-
I actually never loved Patience until last night. I always thought it lacked what G'N'R does best, i.e. driving drums and badass geetars (think "You Could Be Mine"). But last night when I was drunk after the Royals/Twins game, I sat down and watched the video and really listened, you know? Then I called kats65 at like 12:30 in the morning to let her know that I finally 'get' the song's popularity.
But definitely still like You Could Be Mine better. Badass video. Terminator!

That song is still suffering the long term effects of being completely overplayed when it came out.

Civil War also has whistling!

Civil War also has whistling!
I like it for different reasons though.
Also, I like the guitar solo by Slash for the VW commercials a few years ago. Does that count?

Un skinny bop?

and some Strother Martin
-
"What's so civil about war, anyway?"
Tough to top November Rain, though. The piano intro...Slash's guitar solo...mood changes...and then that video with Stephanie Seymour and the panoramic shot of Slash in front of the church during the solo.
And I know we're not supposed to call from Appetite, but I could listen to Sweet Child O' Mine any day of the week.
-
Listen. I understand the desire to want to ignore appetite completely and go with some more trendy unknown song. I truly do. But the simple fact of the matter is that paradise city is the best Rocknroll song ever made and thus the best gnr song ever. Sorry fellas. Go be to cool for school on someone else's dime.
-
-
I thought we all agreed Estranged was the winner :dunno:

Estranged is fantastic, but just because paradise city was played a billion times doesn't make it better. Sorry applejack. I didn't make the rules though.
-
Add me to the Estranged column. Mr. Brownstone is a very close second.
GnR PAK?????

IT'S THIRD DOWN!

Rocket Queen. <---(period)

IT'S THIRD DOWN!
:welcometothejungleintro:
Meh. Would be more if they played Civil War.
"What.....we've got here is.......failure to communicate!" with a graphic of a guy raising his arms and telling us to get loud, then the quarterback "fails to communicate" properly and his left guard jumps.

Also, can't believe "Get in the Ring" hasn't even been mentioned here yet. Turn your filter off, people, and prepare to :horrorsurprise: :horrorsurprise:
And that goes for all you punks in the press
That want to start crap by printin' lies instead of the things we said
That means you
Andy Secher at Hit Parader
Circus Magazine
Mick Wall at Kerrang
Bob Guccione Jr. at Spin,
What you pissed off cuz your dad gets more pussy than you?
eff you
Suck my fuckin' dick
You be rippin' off the fuckin' kids
While they be payin' their hard earned money to read about the bands
They want to know about
Printin' lies startin' controversy
You wanta antagonize me
Antagonize me [redacted]
Get in the ring [redacted]
And I'll kick your bitchy little ass
PUNK
I don't like you, I just hate you
I gonna kick your ass,
Oh yeah! Oh yeah!

The song that sounds like a revving car at the beginning

I am a fan of Mr. Brownstone, but NOTHING beats a spring day when you're driving with the windows down and Paradise City comes on the radio.

Except dancing with Mr. Brownstone.

Holy crap. Just watched the video for Estranged. I hadn't seen it, and somehow hadn't heard the song for years. It is a very, very good song, especially the creamy/dreamy opening guitar riff from Slash. The guy is just the tops. But best Gn'R song? Not by a longshot, my friends. Can see why people go totally apeshit for it, though. Here are just a few of the amazing things about this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpmAY059TTY) video.
Tire swing at the beginning, swinging freely with no kids around as seagulls chirp?= :frown:
Dinosaur shadow?!?= :runaway:
Axl in UCLA jersey= (but wish it was khatz)
Axl then in Charles Manson shirt= :ohno:
Axl napping on the couch in Charles Manson shirt, shorts, and Cons hightops?= :excited:
Slash looking like a lady after getting out of the shower with a towel wrapped around his head?= :dubious:
Definitions of estranged midway through?=
CGI dolphin swimming out of plane?!?!?!?= :surprised: :surprised: :surprised:
Axl jumping off battleship and then refusing all rescue assistance!!!!!!!?= :runaway: :surprised: :runaway:
Axl purposely drowning himself and/or just hanging out underwater to swim with adorable dolphins?= :D
THEN SLASH EMERGES FROM THE WATER AMIDST TORRENTIAL WIND AND RAIN TO PLAY A BLISTERING SOLO WHILE LEVITATING ON THE SURFACE OF THE WATER?!?!?!?!?=
A single "Axl" shoe floating to the bottom of the ocean dramatically?= :horrorsurprise:
Animatronic dolphin thingy clucking during the fadeout while Axl tries to stifle a smile?= :) :bracketmouse: <-----but a dolphin
-
More than Words
-
so I'm kind of a GNR n00b so I was all, "hmm, I've never even heard of this estranged song, I'll check it out" and then I did and i was all, "are you rough ridin' serious? that long of a garbage leadup for that? I mean, GNR is known for their long, long, long, leadups but OMG that was a long lead up for a crap payoff. not worth it" that was what I said. ok. my vote is civil war.
-
Yes, November Rain is a much better example of what Estranged should be. But sd did you watch the video??? It doesn't get any better than that.

the video was the worst. tons of dolphins and wanting to be a dolphin. I was embarrassed for axl.
Also, let's be honest, Axl's high point was owning tom petty omg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stXKDRRiWOA
wish there was good audio/video of this

sometimes I imitate the axl with the mic stand dance and look like a fool but in my mind I look like axl, you know?
-
omg, axl singing free fallin' is a weird mix. lol at this part (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stXKDRRiWOA&t=3m7s), btw. Those two together is an even weirder mix than what I found out about the other night....
.....
....
you guys ready for this?
Guess what special guest sung background on "Don't Cry." Guess.
Shannon Hoon, former (now deceased) lead singer of BLIND MELON. I mean, WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!? Blind Melon and Gn'R together in one song?!?!?!? So weird. And then I just can't believe I never noticed them sharing a microphone in the video right here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRIbf6JqkNc&t=3m38s)
Have been :runaway: about this since Tuesday night.

I read a review of their Arrowhead show that said only about 25000 people showed up :frown:
-
my bro went to the show at arrowhead. he snapped me a video of an old man and his old wife flashing the crowd. this was before the show even started. it was still daylight outside.
-
people that I know who went to KC show said it was pretty good
-
GnR show falls into the category of "I would go if someone gave me a ticket, just so I could see the spectacle."
-
Estranged is still the best GnR song
-
You Could be Mine is IMO
-
going Nov Rain here

Live and Let Die isn't the best, but it should be considered as a top level GnR song.

Can't remember if we already LOL'd at this part from The Pitch's review:
Axl Rose has a Lauryn Hill-like reputation for starting shows late, but last night the lights went down a full five minutes earlier than announced. On the massive LCD screens backing the stage, GNR graphics came to life, with pistols spinning and shooting as a form of curtain call. Somewhat perplexingly, the Looney Tunes theme rang through the speakers. But then came fireworks, and then the band.

Patience is not my favorite GnR song but weird they didn't play it in KC.

yeah, I'd have rather had it for sure over the Who cover. The Floyd cover was awesome though. I was never a huge GnR fan, but went with some friends and it was better than expected. Axel does look awkward though.

Seeing them in a few hours at the Superdome :excited:
