Title: Sqwawks "reload"
Post by: EMAWzified on April 11, 2011, 10:31:23 AM
(For those who don't give a cac about tuck discussions)

With a 6-8 "prospect." Sqwawkers sure he's an All-American in three years with Manning's coaching. Sounds like the second coming of P.J. Phug (sp?) to me.

“Everybody says, ‘His best basketball is ahead of him.’ It’s true,” said Anderson, a 6-foot-8, 215-pound senior power forward out of Wilbraham and Monson Academy in Massachusetts who has orally committed to play basketball at Kansas University.

The three-star player, who was once committed to DePaul and is currently unranked by Rivals.com, chose the Jayhawks over Kentucky, Arizona, Florida, Missouri and Memphis.

Isn't this true with about 90% of kids his age?

Kid dropped out of school and is now studying at home.  He is definitely ku material.

Rumblings he wanted AZ but they backed off.

Kinda sad that ku now has to resort to "3 star fits", I guess you can only lose to so many mid majors before your recruiting takes a hit.

I think the Junction City milk cow for Compton has dried up...it may be tough to put very many more players' family members on his payroll.

Anderson isn't going to do much to help this year in my opinion, but we needed another big and he was probably the best available. Marcus came in as a 4* and left as an All American and most likely a lottery pick, so you never know.

'cus was rated 29th best prospect in the country by Rivals.  you usually do know.

The potential #1 overall pick in the '11 NBA Draft was a 3-star as well:

Love it when Ben can shift gears and rail on any 3 star that K-State gets, and then make a 3 Star that KU gets sound like a completely underrated prospect who is destined for the NBA lottery.

Grats Beems . . . Fantastic work.

The difference is that this guy had visits lined up to Arizona and Kentucky before committing to KU.  He's a traditional "late bloomer" type of prospect who everyone wanted at the 11th hour.

Ben, don't feel bad about scooping up AZ's rejects.  They are higher profile right now.

From KC Star:

Turned out he was right, and as the spring went on, he was being recruited by KU, Kentucky, Arizona, Missouri and Memphis. Anderson was rumored to be taking visits to Kentucky and Arizona, but he says that he felt as if the schools were not shooting straight with him.

“There’s recruiting games that happen,” Anderson said. “Obviously, they’re not going after (only) me. They’re going after a bunch of people. When a coach is supposed to call you, and they don’t call you for a week and a half, that’s a problem. Arizona was supposed to call me back about the visit. But if things weren’t happening at the speed they need to be happening, there’s probably a reason. I just felt like I had to go with my gut.”

Awesome.  I figured you had it on lock so I went ahead and called this in immediately after posting.  I'd have thought they'd have gotten back to me right away about this opportunity, but no call so far.  It's probably just that they all went home early.  It's a go on my end.
