Title: Torrents
Post by: Stupid Fitz on April 09, 2011, 11:12:40 AM
Can someone give me a brief explanation of Torrents?  I mean like, what are they, can I get in trouble for getting jams this way  :ohno:, can they give me computer herpes  :ohno: , where do I get them, how do I get them, can they go into my itunes once I get them?

I really don't have a problem buying songs on itunes, I just hear a lot about these torrent thingys.  Also, if I can't just push like 3 buttons to do this I have no interest, so if it is more difficult than that, mods please delete thread.

TIA

can they give me computer herpes  :ohno:

Wichita computer fixer speculated a few weeks back that my computer got mumped up from the game torrents.  Wasn't clear how :dubious: Saul was on that theory when he came down to check it out post-repair.

download utorrent. go to a website like btjunkie or something. search for what you want. click download torrent, and open it with utorrent. boom.

read comments on each torrent to make sure there is nothing wrong with it. try to get the most seeders and leechers possible.

I did look at that btjunkie site.  So, like if it says trusted, I should be ok, right?  Also, I looked at one that had a "fake" vote.  Assume I should probably stay away from stuff like that???  Also, once downloaded, can they be imported to itunes?

Thanks ew2x4, I appreciate the info even though your last post was probably mean, but I don't know for sure.

Heard about these.  I am pretty sure I am just going to keep paying a dollar per song.  I have a feeling I would be posting a "Help Remove SF's Computer Herpes" thread very soon, if I even figured out how to download any in the first place.

Thanks

Music is the most risky thing to download, movies 2nd.

Child porn is probably right up there too, would have to ask saul about his deep internet days.

Yea if your going to navigate this kind of crap make sure to have software like malwarebytes to scan everything first.

I just downloaded utorrent recently.  Reading the comments is important.  They can tell you if the torrent, sucks or is invalid or someone got in trouble for copyright.

broXcore, I would like to be super elite so if you can pm me an invite to some private trackers, I would appreciate it.  This goes for any other super elites as well.  Next time I'm in Manhattan, I will buy you a beer.  And if you arent there, I will buy one and hide it somewhere so you can get it later.

and yes.

I use Vuze.   It's a little more bloated than utorrent, but it allows me to transcode and stream to my Tivo and PS3 (and a lot of other devices)

not sure if I have any invites to any of them or not.  I would have to check when I get home.  depends on what kind of trackers you're looking for really.  also I'll only give invites out to people who actually know how to seed/build ratio/etc

Used to be on oink, currently on waffles and sceneaccess. Would love a What invite if you've got one. Waffles has been on lock for a whole now, but I do have an invite waiting. Also have like a 2:1 ratio on demonoid with quite a bit of activity. I also don't have an Internet connect at my house right now so we might want to table this for a later time, if you're interested.

Ratio of downloaded to uploaded.

When you seed, you are uploading the file to people who are downloading (or some crap like that)
