Title: What's the status on the TV contract?

...says reports of the contract are up to $60M/year, waaay bigger than th ~$20M per year now.

I guess the biggest question I have, when should we expect some sort of accouncement of a finalized or near finalized agreement?  Seems like a lot hinges on it and I'm either not looking in the right places or surprised more people aren't talking about it.

It's coming.  It will probably get finalized over the summer.

What I love is the fact that the years from the first deal (10 yrs, $60 million) were increased with money in the second (13 yrs, $90 million).  If the $90 million figure is legit, we'll have a TV deal currently in place that rivals the ACC (minus two schools to feed), and once we renegotiate first tier rights in 15-16, we'll suprass them and the Pac-10 easily.  The only conferences that stand to make more money that we do, annually, are the SEC and Big Ten, which is very acceptable.

This also doesn't take into consideration the potential for each school to sell their third tier rights.  Texas is doing that with their Longhorn Network, OU is exploring options, and the rest of us are looking to possibly use one of the current FCS channels to create a 'Big 12' Network.  That deal won't net much (if anything), but the possibility is there.

I fully expect someone to overpay for our first tier rights in a few years.  Fox is going to make a play for all of our rights, and ESPN is going to try and buy them up to keep their stranglehold.  It's going to be a fun negotiation to follow.
