...so you can prepare yourself as I've prepared myself. The Rich Rod and Leach posts are fun, but even the elitest goemawer can't manage to hide the emptiness behind them where conviction once was. Here's the basic rundown:
Nobody's going to fire OB
He'll be here another few years
Nobody gives a eff about a billboard
Recruiting will continue at the exact same rate of suck with the predictable slight recovery towards the end of each period. As a coping mechanism most people will pick one or two recruits to get really excited about and forget about the rest. This is called the "Sams Effect"
We'll continue to pump out incredibly mediocre teams that play the right way and even create some mild excitement a few times.
Toss in the usual "the hell did that come from" game, a beat down of KU and an obscure bowl game and most people can live with it.
This will continue on for the next 3-5 years or so while Currie continues to improve our financial position, work on the stadium expansion begins, maybe even plans for a new practice facility.
With the large scope of the facility improvements we have planned and obscure bowl game money lining our pockets, we could very conceivably be in a much improved hiring situation. We might actually be able to look beyond the hotlist of recently disgraced former football coaches, and assuming Currie is still around, not completely eff it up K-Stateo style.
Really, it could be worse. :dunno:
So, keep fighting the inevitable and flying your banners, or just run with it and embrace the simple beauty of these next few years. No, we're not going to win dr. peppers. We're not going to schedule more than one fun OOC game. A majority of our games will start at 2:30, or whatever OB said he fav game time was. Nothing about the next few seasons will surprise you. We're stuck in football purgatory with a 71 year old SLTH. But we know the end game. 3-5 years from now, when we're all trying to feel feelings again and remembering what it was like to care, we'll be able to start a new future, and place it on a solid foundation of sustained mediocrity and sound fundamentals. Enjoy the ride cat fans.

Can I get another redition that doesn't assume the Big 12 sticks together or expands?
-
I read.
Makes sense, as long as OB continues to make rich tuck world feel good, ADJC and UPKS are going to do a damn thing until their grand plans materialize or until it's proven beyond a doubt that their grand plans can't materialize with OB at the helm.
If the Big 12 pulls off as big a Tier II TV agreement as people are hinting and they follow up with a more lucrative Tier 1 agreement in a few years, nobody is going to want to go anywhere IMO.
-
Rod Cole will be back for sure.

Yeah, they can't make their hire yet but they've got the important things done. Next hire won't be a Ron Prince type hire. They'll be an actual process and some money and incentives to throw around. In due time

I think there is a real possibility that the Big 12 dissolves and we're relegated to some shitting conference and never amount to much after that.

Dude, I know you're emo and stuff but take it easy. The Big 12 isn't going anywhere. It'll prob actually get stronger. And even if it did somehow dissolve we'd have options.

In this case, will tune in for the KU and TX games.
Otherwise, I have yard stuff I can do that is much less frustrating and that doesn't make me want to try to get someone fired.
Sorry Bill, it's not me, it's you.

I will still live and die by every play, unfortunately.

Honestly, I have always been a BB guy. I did fall in love with KSU fb while in school(late 90's, early 2000's) but the mid 2000's and since have caused me to grow a big callous on my heart. Self defense.
Huge bonus: Chiefs are fun to watch again.

My mom's a shrink and she'd say that you do care big guy, you just need something to believe in. Read my post about hope and facilities and so-forth. And if that doesn't work I guess try to care about the Chiefs

Benja, how old were you in 1989?

Benja, how old were you in 1989?
I assume your question is leading into some rough ridin' Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) point about me not appreciating Bill and stuff?

I will still live and die by every play, unfortunately.
Me too, man. As much as I wish I wouldn't, I will.
-
DID READ. I agree with your main points.
-
I like this Benja guy. Did read and do agree.
Gonna be a rough few years, but as painful as it's gonna be, I'm all in. :ohno:
-
eff that. goEMAW needs to place an inside man in Vanier to feed masive amounts of sodium and crank to OB'z so his heart will explode.
-
Shorty will be back too.
-
Hate Bill. Don't care what he did in past anymore. It was lots of fun, but doesn't matter now. Hate him now and will hate him more each day Rich Rod and Leach don't have jobs and he is our coach.
-

If the Fox deal for the Tier 2 rights goes through, anyone who says anything about the Big 12 disbanding is beyond Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!).
If the Fox deal is as lucrative as they say it will be, we'll make as much, or more, annually than the ACC does with their recent Tier 1 renegotiation.
-
I think there is a real possibility that the Big 12 dissolves and we're relegated to some cacting conference and never amount to much after that.
No, there's a remote to zero possibility, and I'm sick of KSU fans using it as some sort of 'woe is me' talking point.
The Big 12 is fine. We'll be fine. Everyone needs to nut up.
-
Hate Bill. Don't care what he did in past anymore. It was lots of fun, but doesn't matter now. Hate him now and will hate him more each day Rich Rod and Leach don't have jobs and he is our coach.
I'm not fixated on Rich Rod and Leach, but Benja's logic was fine with me until he hired Sean.
I'll still watch every game, but I'll hate myself for doing it. Bill can't retire soon enough. I'm getting sick of his crap.

Yeah I'm tired of his crap of ruining the memory of the proudest moments in recent KSU FB history being the great 1st half performance in Lawrence in 2008 to the embarrassment of competing for a North title, beating KU twice and going to a bowl game within 2 years. Get his weak ass crap out of here.

Hi Brian.
I hate his nepotism. I hate how he never fires under-performing assistants. I hate how he's allowed fans, like you, to be satisfied with playing in crap bowl games and beating horrible KU teams. He's really given us a reason to shoot for the stars since 2003 with all of his fantastic recruiting and hires.
And I hate the fact that our fans will cling to mediocre Bill (which he is now) and idolize him like he's still awesome Bill (which he was), when we could possibly go out there and start planning for the future with a different coach instead of treading water with Bill and his merry band of hanger-ons.
But, hey, let's cling to wins against horrible 3-9 KU teams and losses in the Pinstripe Bowl. I love flaunting those big wins against UCF all over the place.

oline may struggle

oline may improve

Shouldn't be caring about O line. Bill will find a way to figure that out.
Should be worried about Cosh's inept defense and another poor season of missed arm tackles, dbacks who don't know where the eff they should be or how to approach, and an overall lack of stops.
-
David Ubben: Kansas State, on the backs of the Brown Brothers and Justin Tuggle, wins their first Big 12 title since 2003. Definitely shocking, but not wholly impossible.
Until I mention that LHC Bill Snyder retires again and hands the reins to Jim Tressel, fresh off a plane from Columbus, Ohio.
Just kidding about that last part. I think.

Would really suck for some of these tards if we end up 8-4 or 9-3. Will have to eat major crow.

the "I hate Snyder" tards
I mean trust me I wanted GP as much as the next guy, but now were stuck with Snyder for 3 more years and there is nothing we can do about it. He's not the same coach he used to be, no crap....times have changed and the guy is like 90 years old. No reason to "hate" him.
-

We'll go to a bowl game. Probably end up 7-6 or 8-5.
However, if Bill had the sack to fire Cosh and hire a real DC, the record would probably be better than that because the offense will be pretty good.
It's going to hurt even more in 2012 when we actually have good talent all over the offense, and Cosh pisses it all away.

Not replacing Cosh and hiring Sean pushed me beyond the limit. I was okay with him being here for however long he wanted to be, but now, I can't look at him objectively. I really don't like him very much.

I think we may have 9 wins in us this year as a high point and even getting to that I would want to get rid of Bill. I think you are mixing up "we are going to suck" with "we need to get rid of Bill"

Understandable but it's not like we're gonna hire another Venzy or something. If anything we should hate that old piece of a crap Wefald.
I say we get a "Fire Cosh" airplane banner thread going. Got Ron Prince fired...don't see why it wouldn't get lousy ass Cosh fired either.

I can think of several reasons to hate him.

I don't hate Bill. I hate certain things about him that have pushed me to not liking him.
I hate Wefald. To the core.

Don't make statements about being impressed with the program because they beat KU and go to shitty bowls. Any coach we hire should do that at a minimum or be fired. Anyone should be able to do that at a BCS university.

well, there's nothing we can do if everyone thinks there is nothing we can do. i mean, worst case, we get the idea out there that we won't accept sean as a successor or bill staying if he sucks for more than a single season just because he's bill. we need direction. we currently have an old genius running the team with no help because he a) refuses to hire any b) refuses to fire losers who have proven they can't perform c) has the idea in his head that his loser son is taking the reigns. we can all sit back and let it develop or we can get in front of it and attempt to set expectations.

you know what was great about Ron (outside of his turner gill'esque multimedia campaigns)? we could fire his ass whenever we wanted. he was working for us. he sucked, and we mumped up his firing, but we fired him. if he didn't make it happen, he was out. we had that. we don't have that with bill. we need to move towards having that with bill. i love bill, and god forbid it comes to that, but sitting back and just accepting that it's bill and we are stuck with it until he decides we aren't is a loser plan.

I've felt for a long time that this situation mirrors a lot of dictatorships.
Extremely popular guy takes power. Things look good for a while. People love him so much that they let him just continue to do whatever he wants until he has a stranglehold on everything.
Stuff starts to go south. Leader puts his head in the sand and keeps cronies around while they screw everything up around them. People think, "Well, there's nothing we can do. He's too powerful. We can't make him leave."
Ultimate succession plan ends with dictator trying to place his Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) son in power. People have enough. crap starts getting set on fire in the streets.
My fear is open fan revolt against the guy with his name on the stadium. That will look really, really awkward and ultimately hurt us in the long run.

Leverage.
Bill owns so many of our fans.
Usually trial separations help provide this. However, our fanbase is full of dumbasses with no confidence or collective self worth. So, when Bill took us back, we vowed "never again".
When I say "we" I mean you losers who can't handle this discussion without saying that I am wishing KSU ill.

There is no powerful outside actor that has any interest/ability to unseat bill and we all already have Twitter.

There's the ultimate showdown where Bill and Currie have the discussion about Sean. If you think Currie is going to let Bill force the most important hire in his career down his throat, I think you underestimate his true nature.

Somewhat of an empty victory, imo.

Well now if his Sean takes the reigns, by all means bust out the torches and pitchforks. I'd rather have Prince Ron back

Waaaay too late.
If we ever get anywhere near the point where this happens, it will be way too late to do anything worth doing.

People get pissed when I say I would rather have Ron than OB. This is 99% of the reason. If Ron sucks, he gets fired, if OB sucks, people say how great he used to be and make a bunch of stupid ass excuses for him. Also, and as I have said before, now is our chance to go out and hire a potential home run coach (Rod or Leach), but instead, Bill is going to keep running us into the ground for 3 more years and we will have to get lucky on a hire.

they got rid of snyder before. after two consecutive bad seasons. wefald was downright giddy that he got to hire his snyder 2.0. they'll get rid of him again if they want to. it's not that big of a deal.

Had a friend escorted out of a game because while he was verbally berating our team decided to dish out "Why the eff don't we fire effing Snyder?" or something to those lines. was an epic drunken melt down. Security said he was tossed because he was to intoxicated and cussing, we all know Snyder's militia hears all in that stadium.
Dude has also had us threatened to be kicked out of multiple establishments during basketball games. It's awesome to watch the meltdown :ksu:

Had a recent conversation with one of Currie's good friends. He knows it's not a great situation with Bill at the helm, but there's nothing he can do about it at this point as long as he's making bowls games and beating KU. Sean is a different story. Currie is aware that Bill ultimately wants Sean in charge, but he won't let that happen. I'm 100% confident that as long as Currie is our AD (and no, he's not interested in the Tennessee job when it opens up...which is going to happen soon) Sean will never be more than an assistant coach.

The fact that this is even being discussed as a possibility and is now somewhat in the ballpark of reality is reason enough to take his name off of the stadium.
If LHC Bill Snyder really thinks Sean should be our next coach, it proves he doesn't give one crap about Kansas State. He only cares about making up for being a workaholic dad that didn't spend enough time with his kids and now feels bad about it.
I'm going to get drunk when he retires. crap canned drunk, and I'm going to shoot off fireworks in celebration.

So, if we lose currie before Bill, we are all mumped.
I am not willing to gamble that Currie won't be recognized and snatched up by others before Bill gives up/strokes out/tries to push sean until the AD breaks, yet this is exactly what appears to be happening right now.
If Currie leaves next year, Sean WILL be our next coach.
Bill needs to go ASAP so that we don't find ourselves on the losing side of this bet. Very bad season for Bill will help...

I'm not sure you are in full understanding of the chain of command. Bill doesn't get AD powers if Currie leaves. Hell, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if we went out and hired a new AD if Currie left.

Yeah, Schulz is the fail-safe on this. I doubt he pulls a Wefald and just elevates Snyder or one of his cronies to AD if Currie leaves. Now, if we lose both Schulz and Currie before Snyder leaves, we may be in some very, very deep crap, both as an athletic department and a university.

Schulz strikes me as a smart guy who gets it. My guess is that he's going to laugh at any attempt by Bill to get Sean promoted into that position and veto any AD's attempt to get bullied into it.
If Sean is ever hired, I will openly root against Kansas State until he's Pat Knighted out of here. I'm already teetering due to my disgust for him being on the staff to begin with.
-
Anyone that believes Bill will pick his successor, either publicly or by forcing Currie's hand behind the scenes somehow, is so rough ridin' Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) that they should just be put out of their misery. :goodbyecruelworld:
I was told by somebody that I trust and has VAST experience in the matter that AD's are really allowed to do their job and make their own decisions (including going against the wishes of big boosters) if they can defend their decisions to boosters, but more importantly if they have the support of a good president. We are in a very good position right now in that we have a great AD AND president that work well together. Currie's not going anywhere for a while. He's got young kids that he doesn't want to uproot and his family loves Manhattan. I don't know as much about Schulz, but I guess I wouldn't be surprised if he was in it for the long haul. :dunno:
As I said, as long as Bill keeps getting to bowl games and beating KU, he can coach as long as he wants and put together his own staff. Schulz and Currie both have set some amazing goals both academically and athletically in terms of fundraising/facilities and they are understandably in "don't rock the boat" mode right now. Who can blame them? That said, everything after Bill's retirement will be decisions made solely by Currie...who I believe will still be here when Bill retires...again. :driving:

Maybe you really did hear different, but I really doubt Currie is all too worried about leaving Bill in charge for now. It's about as stable as a situation can get; boosters are firmly on his side, people will keep showing up to games and the money will keep steadily flowing in. You people obsessing over this next football hire are also assuming the Currie must be obsessing over it as well. You forget that anyone that knows the business knows that an AD's success is far from solely based on the hire's they make. Currie has already accomplished a couple of THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS he needed to do; produce solid revenue again, reconnect with the grassroots donors, pay Frank, and upgrade our facilities.
Maybe he didn't get to make his hire as soon as he wanted, sure, but I promise you he's crossed the first two objectives he had off his list. When the time comes he'll be able to make his hire, too. And he will have assured a higher level of stability for the program and for the ath dept's budget.
From a fan's perspective, things might look a bit depressing for the next few years.
From an AD's perspective, it looks extremely successful.

It's in Bill's contract that he has first and last say on his football staff. Again, as long as he keeps getting to bowl games and beating KU, he can hire his daughter to be the special teams coach...who is equally qualified imo. Again..."don't rock the boat."
Honestly, why would they want to put up a fight on this anyway? If Sean contributes to the suck, they look more justified in getting rid of Bill. If it somehow works out and they get better, great. I can picture Currie licking his chops and laughing his ass off when Bill made this decision. No lose all the way around.

Kstate football 2011 is currently undefeated.
I'll foolishly cling to every single snap and brag and predict great big things when we win and completely melt down when we lose. Do it every time.

Shouldn't be caring about O line. Bill will find a way to figure that out.
Should be worried about Cosh's inept defense and another poor season of missed arm tackles, dbacks who don't know where the eff they should be or how to approach, and an overall lack of stops.
Just like he figured out the O line in '04 and '05? Same problem this year.....too much inexperience and too little talent.

O-line seems to have been one of the better units the last couple of years. Don't remember who coached OL in 04 & 05 (Dimel maybe?) but I think Dickey is one of the better, if not the best, assistant on the current staff. The rubber meets the road this year when OL recruits from the last couple of classes will be relied upon for significant contributions.

Does anyone know if the oline guys are besties again this season? Last years group was so tight knit that I think it helped them block defenders better.

I bet an oline with really good grip could be a dominant red rover team

You're thinking of Bob Stanley, and he was worthless.
He was just fired at Western Michigan.
He was one of the first examples of horrible coaches Snyder brought in but wouldn't fire.
