-
weird thread.
-
No link. It was just played on TBS.
-
No, when mcgruder missed WIDE OPEN 3 at the beginning... I shoulda bet the house on WISC...
-
A reporter made Jake cry, and Frank kind of made a comment about it like, "Is that what you were trying to do? Get him to cry in front of all of these people?"
Nothing spectacular or controversial. It was just Frank being Frank and standing up for his guys.
-
he seemed to be late on closing out against some 3's. Not sure if that was entirely his fault.
-
reporter was kellis, of all peeps...

Well, if that was the case, it tells me all I need to know about how Frank feels about Kellis.
-
Love Frank
-
"what a joke" there at the end. Classic Frank. The guys family might be :chainsaw: by the end of the night.

Well, if that was the case, it tells me all I need to know about how Frank feels about Kellis.
That was a shitty question, basically the question is "how do you feel" but he sprinkled salt in the bad question wound with the you got the record but didn't get it done part of the question
-
I don't blame Frank for protecting his guy, but I really don't think Kellis was out of line here.

He could have been a bit more careful with the wording, I agree.
-
I don't blame Frank for protecting his guy, but I really don't think Kellis was out of line here.
who the eff cares?
this. the important thing is that frank made a point to make kellis feel/look stupid. that's all that was.
-
I hope people start mercilessly harassing Kellis again. Good times.
-
all the press conferences are avail online at the ncaa site, for anyone that doesn't know.
why is there are random mcgruder comment in the middle of this thread?
-
I don't blame Frank for protecting his guy, but I really don't think Kellis was out of line here.
Bullshit. Not a journalistic question at all.
-
Kellis is a piece of crap.
-
I don't blame Frank for protecting his guy, but I really don't think Kellis was out of line here.
have to go back to your stupid ass comment for a sec...
assuming we actually should care, what information was Kellis trying to gather with his question? "How do you feel?" are you rough ridin' shitting me? uh, he probably feels badly, you rough ridin' Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!). awesome question. really got something for the quick hitters there.
gmafb.

Kellis' wife is going to have to put in some overtime on her knees to make this go away....lots of cookies too.

I absolutely agree. Kellis was just being bad at his job, as per usual.
I just think that Frank may have been more lenient in his response to Fitz or Meek. I could be WAY wrong on that, but I don't think he has a lot of respect for Kellis, and it showed by him punking him on TV.
If it was some dude from the Tucson paper or the AP, Frank may have just gone off, but to me, this was like yelling at some guy at work after you've had a bad day, simply because you don't like him very much and he said the wrong thing at the wrong time.
-
Kellis is a piece of cac.
Hate him. A LOT. Do you think he'd ask the sam question at the squak presser last year? He's just an bad person.
-
kellis deserves grave misfortune. and very bad things.

He needs to get punched in the dick.

Kellis was trying to get a juicy, emotion driven quote. He got it.
except he won't be able to translate the emotion to his shitty doomed paper, because 1) it's a rough ridin' paper, and 2) he's an awful writer.
oh, and Jake was already emotional, so every answer he gave would have had emotion behind it, except a decent question would have gotten an emotional answer that actually answered something people may not have already known.
But no. Instead, we got the Jim Gray "how do you feel?" question to a losing player.

agree with kougs here.
Maybe he was going to write a fluff piece about Pullen and use the quote to provide emotion for the story. Maybe he WAS being a dick. We don't know. We hate him because he is a KU guy, but he has followed the Cats for what 2-3 years now and has probably spent quite a bit of time with Jake in that period, hopefully he has grown to respect Jake as a person/player. Maybe not.
BTW kougs, don't try to PI me. You suck at it.

I don't give a crap about this. Smart people hate him because he didn't deserve the job, lied about his past when he got it, and really sucks at said job.

I agree that Kellis is an bad person and print journalism is doomed (sorry Joelcat), but aside from the downright rude wording of the question, a "how do you feel"-type question is fair. Obviously everyone knows how Jake felt, but you still need a quote. I bet the other reporters there were pretty happy they didn't have to be the one to ask the question, but they'll def use the quote.
But yes, his wording was out of line.

A good journalist, especially a good print journalist, won't ask that question because it adds nothing, seriously what the eff do you expect the answer to be? If you must have clarity about how a player who just lost his last college game feels you don't ask "how does/do it/you feel." I learned this in high school.

Just hit SportsCenter. To be honest with you, as I listen to it again, Kellis did nothing wrong.

Handsome and accurate. can't fault the dude.

Meek asked the same question to Curt.
If done right when you ask a question like that you give the kid a REAL compliment before asking him do describe how he feels. Kellis didn't do that. Meek really didn't either, though I have no doubts as to Meek's agenda.
Mellinger's wording was perfect, though with a different question.

Meek didn't come off as a tremendous jackass when he asked it though. He asked more about the season and how he felt about the season. KR just basically said, "you played good and still failed. HOW DOES THAT FEEL?"

To me it seemed like he glossed over Jake's great play during the game. That was where he was at fault.

Exactly. He set it up in a way that would make anyone feel like a failure.

Kellis is a rough ridin' uk fan who hates his job covering a superior athletic program in KSU. It isn't hard to dissect this. c'mon you dipsits. He has been anti-EMAW for 2 years.
-
I've had to do some postgame interviews with my undergrad alma mater's players on radio immediately after some crushing, crushing losses. If I had ever asked a player a question like that, I would've quit my job immediately after the broadcast was done. I don't know if Kellis was consciously or subconsciously trying to rub salt in the wound because of his college background, but I'm gonna have to agree with the mindset that he had some sort of agenda. If you'd let someone from phog.net in with press credentials, they would've asked the exact same question, albeit with a few less "uhs" and "ums." Kellis should quit tomorrow and go see if he can find a job covering a team outside of the realm of his rooting interests.
-

Kstate should do a media black out on the Wichitard Eagle until that pig rough rider is gone.
-
If this results in other schools thinking Frank is too big of a hot-head AND I don't have to force myself to read any more cac Kellis articles next year; well then I win on two fronts. Winning feels good.
-
Would of been classic if Frank would of said, " he feels the same as you do when ku get beat you male genitals sucking piece of crap!
-
kentbabb Kent Babb
@ @dudeabides4 frank in presser tonight: "And I don't like you, jerk-off."
true? I assume this was directed at Kellis.

I really don't understand the collective "it had to be asked" rationale from the beat writers union every time one of these things happens. They're not covering watergate or fixing society's ills. They're just writing about games for markets that consist almost exclusively of fans of a team.
They're largely useless now that everything is live on the internet. They already know which questions will and won't be answered. A form list of questions could be left for the coaches/players every time with the "presser" broadcast to anybody who cares.
All the media types sticking up for Kellis are as dense as the Fat Tony's manager. YOU'RE ARGUING WITH YOUR ONLY CUSTOMERS. When the people who provide the income are criticizing, your reply can't be "that's our job, had to be asked". Who decided it had to be asked? J-School? Some self-important beat writer code? Dumb.
And as has been mentioned plenty of times, the extra outrage is of course due to the fact that Kellis is a known EMAW-hating racist. Pretty dumb of the Star/Eagle to put him in that position, where every time one of these episodes happens, he gets destroyed extra hard.
This was long, so I may get some DNRs, which will make this the equivalent of your standard 4th-tier market newspaper.
-
kellis deserves the wrath of kstate fans even if he didn't ask a question last night. someone please slash his tires. repeatedly.

A seasoned journalist with some established credibility can ask that type of question if phrased properly.
Kellis makes that type of attempt and just comes off as the novice lacking any substantive degree of professional respect that he is.
I'm glad Frank threw that amateur hour bullshit back in his face. What a joke.
-

Sometimes we forget this, and we need something like last night to remind us. And now we have "WHAT A JOKE".
:emawkid:
-
yeah it wasnt asking the question it was how it was asked
-
To wrap it all up, my morning edition f the KC star has 4 paragraphs on the KSU game and a glowing article about the Morris twins and their borrowed/unoriginal F.O.E. motto even though they are the 2 biggest thugs in college basketball. No mention of their criminal enterprises.
Also, a nice write up of Self and his time at IL. No mention of leaving IL with NCAA violations up the ass.
WHAT A JOKE.

Heh, yeah just saw that. It was a pretty late game and all, but why even bother asking questions, Kellis, if you're not going to put even a single quote in your "write up."
-
Didn't miss anything by not having Kellis' long story version. Pretty much wrote our loss was inevitable to stronger Wisconsin and lots about how we won't have a deep run in the tournament this year (much to his jaysqwawk relief). There you go, treated to a ringside seat to a slugfest and what may be the tournaments most thrilling individual performance, Kellis proves incapable of capturing the drama or intensity.
And then there's the question from the dumbass. "Jake who broke the school scoring record and UMMM DID SOME OTHER NICE THINGS . . . "
JFC, Frank's response was retrained.
-

Someone post Kellis's tweets.

Kent Babb jerking down Kellis's diaper and licking his balls on Twitter last night was the highlight of my evening. I hope Babb and Kellis get asked "how it feels" when the Star completely folds and they are covering tractor pulls in ButtJack, WY.

There hasn't been a media person yet who hasn't taken Kellis' side against, well, I guess against the customer.
That's what's so bizarre to me. OK, media types don't like when Frank's mean to them. I get that. Frank doesn't like when media types go - in his mind - too far with him or his players. So who decides who's right? Me. Us. We can decide whether we'll continue to buy newspapers or read newspaper websites or purchase hoops tickets or gaudy KSU cowboy boots. We can decide whether we support Frank or whether we heckle the living crap out of Kellis. I simply don't understand why the media types think they can dictate how the customer feels just because of some media code or whatever.
There's simply nothing wrong with EMAWs hating Kellis for being a racist squawk who pisses off our players and coaches and also does a lousy job of getting info on the team to non-premium goEMAW'rs. I get that they want to stick up for their colleague and/or friend, but it's just not their place. Kellis earned the hatred himself. It's on him to deal with it.

WHAT A JOKE.
This post is full of butt hurt.

BITB needs to open his show tomorrow letting Kellis have it. Come on BITB, I know you read goEMAW.com. :crossfingers:

As people have noted there is a right way and wrong way to ask those types of questions when everything is so raw. Meek did a much better job. KU has the benefit of churning out crap journalists who would rather write a piece about how good the morris twins are at shooting BB guns and not mention the targets. KSU needs to be more aggressive with how we handle the media. If the Eagle wants to keep pieces of crap like Kellis on staff to write about KSU then they should be provided equally shitty treatment. crap spots for their photogs, last questions at pressers, answers that are cut off because the team has to do something else, hell on a national stage like that, Frank should just flat out say he isn't taking questions from the Eagle in the future.

I don't blame Frank for protecting his guy, but I really don't think Kellis was out of line here.
have to go back to your stupid ass comment for a sec...
assuming we actually should care, what information was Kellis trying to gather with his question? "How do you feel?" are you rough ridin' shitting me? uh, he probably feels badly, you rough ridin' Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!). awesome question. really got something for the quick hitters there.
gmafb.
agree with kougs here.
False. First and foremost, I hate him because he's rough ridin' terrible at his job. Just inexcusably awful. It doesn't help matters that he's a "KU guy", but I would be willing to overlook that if he took his job more seriously and stopped sucking so hard.
But he is a KU grad, so I guess he's probably doing a bang-up job by those standards. :dunno:

Fellas. Come on, now. The exact reasons for our Kelliss hate aren't important here. All that matters is that we share a common hate.

Don't all our MHK goEMAW'rs see Kellis at grocery stores, restaurants, etc.?

The way the media is trying to back up the POS Robinett reminds of the KSU-KU football game in 1991. KU had more talent on the field, but Snyder had a team that busted butt which the KSU staff coached well. They beat KU by being smarter and taking advantage of opportunities (and having Grinnin' Glenn Mason vapor lock and make some horrid decisions in the game).
This loss did not set well with the homer KU media across the state (the press had already decided they hated Snyder due to his closed practices, refusal to release injury information, and limiting access to his players - and he didn't care, especially after he was mocked by some after his initial press conference when he accepted the job - Snyder's remarks that he saw the KSU job as an opportunity and he hoped to get his team into a few bowl games was the headline they utilized to make fun of the clueless new coach in Manhattan). During the post game in 1989 Snyder was literally asked by some jackhole (I believe out of Topeka, may have been Paradis but I'm not sure) if he and the 'Cats were "embarrassed" about how they beat KU, being that they didn't "deserve" the win.
Snyder lit into him, putting him on the spot about what did his kids do to deserve such a statement/question. They busted hard, played as a team, and won on the field. Snyder was as about as p.o.ed I've ever seen him.
The press across the state edited the question out and made a story about how Bill acted in an unprofessional manner, and that he didn't know how to win graciously, and he was out of control. At the time I lived in Emporia and received the KC, Wichita, and Topeka papers, and had local TV from all. All were ruthless.
It is the nature of the press to defend its own. They don't care about right or wrong. They don't care whether their compatriot was an idiot/out of line/incompetent/chasing another agenda. They never want to see someone challenge their ilk.
All in all, the press reaction on this one has been rather mild compared to some of the crap of the past. My guess is many realize they don't need to get on the bad side of Martin, for they need him more than he needs them (plus, some may think Robinett is a fool and not worth the time to stick up for).

When stuff like this happens, media peeps (I’ve been guilty many times) always feel the need to tell the fans how the job works; or why the question didn’t suck; or why the coach, not the reporter, was in the wrong.
Reality, you guys don’t care. Really no different than an article we write. We (the media) are supposed to give you guys the information and leave it up to you to form your opinion. Not our job to change your opinion, IMO.

more of kellis just being kellis. nobody should've been surprised or angry over the fact that kellis is still just absolutely horrible at what he does. he's been doing it for two years now. and lol at the graham watson "kellis was just asking the tough questions" argument. that wasn't a tough question. it was just a poorly worded and horribly executed one. again, just kel being kel.

That's the aggravating part. The media thinks we're upset with him asking Jake how he felt, as opposed to the reality of being annoyed by a shitty beat writer asking a basically pointless question and wording and phrasing it to sound like he is trying to make Jake feel bad.
"Ummm you did some good things, buuuuuuuut you can't get the win."

The lead sentence is this:
It's no secret that Kansas State coach Frank Martin is not a big fan of the media, but after Saturday's third-round loss to Wisconsin, Martin let his temper get the best of him.
Could this be any further from the truth??? Who are these people and how do they find their way to the interwebs???
