Title: Play in games???
Post by: shaft3500 on March 14, 2011, 02:52:51 PM
So, can anyone explain the play in game situation to me? Why does one bracket have 2 play in games and another has none? I can see wanting to make the lowest at large bids play the extra games, but you'd think they'd be playing for the same seed and there would be one in each bracket... :ck:

Winners of each play-in-game get first round bye, then in second round face the NIT and CBE winners. Each school gets $10,00 donated to general scholarship fund.

Questions?

My understanding is that the four teams that are not 16 seeds were the last four teams placed in the field.  As such they have to play the play in games.

I understand that the lowest 4 seeds are in two of the play in games for 16 seeds, and the last 4 at large bids are in the play in games as well. Why are the at large teams not playing for the same seed, and why is there not 1 play in game per region?

To answer your question shaft, I don't know.

The last teams in the dance are better than most of the automatic qualifiers, so they play for a higher seed. It would make more sense to me to just make the 8 worst teams play for the 16 seeds, but that's not the way they do it.
