Word is that Self is more than a little concerned about the implications of conference re-alignment and the dangers of being affiliated with a school that doesn't have a seat at the "football table." Rick Barnes, among others, are openly lobbying for Bill to take the OU job so that they are guaranteed that he remains "in the conference"...wherever that ends up being.

this isn't bait squawk, this is a real concern for the stability of the only thing KU has. KSU doesn't need them as any more of an albatross if realignment does come.

Selfishly (no pun intended), I'd prefer if he stayed at KU, because I think that the combination of KU and KSU could still be appealing to the Big East. However, if Self leaves, they'd be much less value in the Big East wanting KU, and that could bleed over into us as well.
Hope he stays.

I was eating at Johnnie's the other day, and a big name OU guy was there eating a Theta burger, and I overheard him say the word "self" like 11 times. :eek:

I'm sure as a head basketball coach Bill Self would jump at the chance to leave that crap basketball school KU to jump at the chance to coach the Sooners. Isn't he an OK-State guy anyway? Just think next year Frank will be in Arkansas and Self will be in Norman.

The channel would not include programming from the University of Texas, which has partnered with ESPN on a new Longhorns channel, or the University of Oklahoma, which is planning its own channel, as well.
OU has some serious money involved in this deal, and Bill Self is thought to be a cornerstone of it. :horrorsurprise:

Wouldn't surprise me one bit. Rumor is another OU boaster (Toby Keith) just loves him some Self. Just plains loves Self. I think he would be willing to write a song about Self to get the money needed to pay for him.

If he leaves now, he can claim to future #1 recruits that Selby couldn't keep himself out of troub and healthy and this is why he flopped as a frosh. If Bill stays, he will have to explain why Selby flops after he is a Soph.
He leaves now, he avoids this and can keep hauling in the big kids without worrying about explaining crap. Just pile it all on Selby and KU.

I'm hearing from a source connected to Ou that they don't want to wait till after the second round for Ku to be done so they can make a Move on Self, so they might go for another target.

Plus, notice how uptight and sweaty Seff gets if things don't go well, being the "the guy" always having to carry the entire athletic department wears on a coach.
At OU there's not nearly the same pressure, and they can pay just as well if not better than ku.

But lets be honest. No other sport at ku does crap, so it's always on men's basketball to carry the load and keep the bandwagon fanbase happy and holding their head high. Bill Self may relish in this, just like Roy did, but it can also wear on a guy.

Word is that Cheyenne Zulu is NOT open to a salary adjustment for Self next year. It would be really ironic if Self ends up leaving, thus screwing KSU in the conference realignment mess, all because his KSU-alum AD won't pony up.

ku losing a winning coach makes them completely unwanted (more than they already are) in realignment.
ku's athletic dept. is the worse in the conference minus men's basketball. Ruin that and KSU may not get invited to a new conf. because they are tied to ku who will be worthless.

Well, I didn't see this coming, but it comes from the EXACT SAME rationale that I shared with you about the attractiveness of the OU offer....namely close to family, and in a stable conference situation.
Brian Gates, of GoPowercat fame is now reporting that there are Arkansas people who believe that they will make a SERIOUS run at Bill Self. His wife has family in the area, and the SEC is buoyed by football (read: stable). I had assumed the "Family and Stability" angle would be OU, but this makes even MORE sense than OU.
