I think so.

Yeah. Capable of winning any game. Also capable of losing any game.

damn.
was just thinking this. how far does this set us back? I like the mentality...."eff it, CU is just a bad match-up for us....."
-
Yeah. Capable of winning any game. Also capable of losing any game.
No, that's dumb and powerespect approved. Hate when people say that.

jake will shoot our way into being a dangerous team.
-
Honestly, I don't think winning/losing today had any influence on making the sweet 16. Only winning the league tournament would've gotten us possibly a 3 seed, which would've made things easier. I think this hurting our mentality is minimal.

jake will shoot our way into being a dangerous team.
the fact that catzacker said this should tell you tards something

In short, no.

If it did anything, I think it was just to reaffirm what a lot of us were already pretty sure of. That we are a lot stronger defensively in the post and that we struggle to contain teams with multiple high level scoring guards.

In short, no.
The 16 point KU loss to us should have been an indication that we are a dangerous team.

Do not want to see the Buffs on our side of the bracket.

Maybe if you guys could play well consistently. You're only dangerous when you're playing your superbowl.

Did losing to CU the second time this year hurt our mentality? Mods please rename this dumbfuck forum, kthanks.

Do not want to see the Buffs on our side of the bracket.
do you know how hard it is to beat a team 4 times? I don't think it's ever been done!
-
I'm not saying we weren't trying to win today, but what was 95 doing out there? Did we think Tay couldn't handle their guards because they're too big? Southwell is suddenly sucking?
I like that 95 can get the ball at any spot on the floor and drive 1 on 5 for a layup. That's cool. But his defense sucked balls today.
And when Pullen/McGruder combine for 9/29 from the field we have a big problem.

I'm not even going to argue the Texas point. Try playing a basketball game against a top 25 team on 2 hours of sleep when your mind is elsewhere. I really hope we get to play them again to shut you guys up.

Yet a significant portion of the time when K-State plays in Lawrence it's always retire someones jersey night, or reunion night . . . not to mention in THE major sport ku fans tore down the goal posts twice in a row when ku beat K-State.
When K-State beat ku a few weeks ago social media blew up with pissed off ku fans, and my little ku buddy friends to a person completely melted down.

you are a Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!), and i pity you.
-
Yes, Colorado is more dangerous. More threats behind the arc.
-
Going into today no win or loss should sneak up on us. We're rough ridin' dangerous but we're rough ridin' vulnerable to a first round loss too. It's EMAW. It's who we are.

win or loss, this game didn't mean dick, nothing changes

This 2 hour sleep excuse is weak. Especially after you dominated the first half and led by 16 at one point.

Just more "aspera" for us to pass through while we are on the way "ad astra." Eyes on the prize. :kstatriot:

I know when I do anything on that little sleep, my awareness goes dooooowwwwwnnnnnhill as the day progresses. Look, we lost to Texas. Until we beat them today, you can hold that over us. I'm not trying to say they didn't play well. I'm just saying that we were at a severe disadvantage playing on 2 hours of sleep in the wake of a horrible tragedy.

K-State's still a dangerous team. If K-State can play with the same defensive intensity that they played with against KU and Texas, they can beat anyone in the country.

The CU game is not an indicator of future failure, just as the UT game is not an indicator of future success. But when looking at the last month, the CU game is much more of an anomaly than the UT, etc. games.

unfair to look at it in the context of the entire year? the issue(s) we saw in the cu game(s) are the same ones we saw on average once every three games this year - awful defense combined with, at times, inefficient offense. not that these two things aren't consistent themese in any team's loss, however specifically we have been terrible with on ball/dribble drive defense and when jake isn't shooting it well we struggle.

Not completely unfair, but I will say the current team really wasn't defined until late January; losing Judge/Asprilla, changing the offense, etc. But yes, some of those trends are consistent.
The most disappointing thing about the game, especially the 2nd half, wasn't just CU scoring and making shots. Higgins made a lot of hard shots and CU has shown to be capable of scoring against good defenses. Getting beat on the offensive glass, not getting to the FT line when we got them in foul trouble early, and not hitting multiple open shots was much more disappointing. Those are things we did consistently to win games the last month, and we failed to do that against CU. The game should've come down to the last possession at least, and we didn't make plays to allow that to happen. That was most disappointing to me and my concern going into next week, but I think it's more likely that we'll see play more like the we got used to in the last month, rather than what we saw against CU.
-
The CU defense was an anomaly. It was worse than @KU.

One of our worst 3 of the season. Kind of crazy our worst defensive game was in Ames.

i've been debating whether I file this in my "things I'm going to bring up about frank next year when we're struggling" folder or if this is on the players. it was absurd.

First, I do not blame losses on refs. Almost 99% of the time you still control the outcome as a team, even with bad calls.
That said, the worst thing to happen was the officials calling a string of contact fouls on CU. The foul total was 8 to 1 in favor of us by the 14 minute mark. Foul totals tend to even out, not because officials do things intentionally, but officials are human. They see those foul totals and change the way they call the game. I really thought at times we still did a good job of attacking the rim after that, but a lot of body contact fouls just weren't called. By the 5 minute mark or so the foul totals were 9-8. Now, CU did a good job of forcing us to change some shots and we just missed some, but I find it hard to believe a team can foul 8 times the first 6 minutes of a half, and then go nearly 10 minutes with just 1 foul call. Overall the officials were just very inconsistent, but that is not a surprise.
It was crazy in person watching how differently each game was called by each different officiating crew. At times it was almost like each crew had a different set of rules on what constitutes a foul.
And one final point on my officiating rant to be fair; the "steal" by Pullen and pass to Sprads for a lay-up was one of the worst non calls of the game, and one of the worst in the open court all year. That was a play Mike Anderson would be proud of though.

Breathing in mold for that long probably didn't help.
-
i don't think kstate played particularly well @ texas, they just won. they didn't play that well in any of their last three games.
everything else aside, the team is just ridiculously dependent on pullen's offense. kelly has been a reliable second scoring threat for a while now, but isu and cu have shown that they can almost completely deny the entry pass when the make that a priority.
-

It isn't unfair to look at the entire year, but I would much rather struggle early and surge into the tournament late than dominate early and back into the tournament a la Texas last year.

Out shot them 55% to 38% eFG%. I'd say that's playing pretty well.

Tell us how you don't blame losses on the refs again. I need a good laugh. Oh, and thanks for rooting for Texas last night. Really glad you could put your inferiority complex aside for a few hours and embrace team state conference... or not.

I was frustrated with the way the game was called, but it did not cost K-State the game. Go back and show me where I said it was the reason K-State lost.

It was a single post and I said it was a rant.
I bet you can go back through my posting history and maybe find 2 or 3 posts ever that complained about officials.
BTW, I leave you alone, you can do the same. And I appreciate the perspective you bring to the board most of the time.
