Title: Did you know . . .
Post by: sonofdaxjones on March 08, 2011, 05:59:27 PM
that K-State had a purple jersey tops back when they always wore the 2 tones on the road?    Jack Hartman didn't break out the purple tops (that matched the purple shorts) until his last or next to last year, they'd been sitting in the equipment room in boxes for 4 or 5 years.   FYI, the players back then thought the 2 tones were the effing bomb, because they were designed by the players in the 70's.

Oh, and K-State was an Adidas school for basketball back then.  They had sweet purple Adidas with "K-State" in gold lettering on the back.

I'm not sure that we should recognize basketball at any point we weren't in Nike Elites or hyper elites

This is not completely accurate.  It is true that during Hartman's last 2 years (including Norris Coleman's 1st year), the Cats had purple roadies.  However, they no longer had the lavendar tops.  In Hartman's last 2 years, the Cats switched to the satiny finish uniforms.  The lavendar tops were only available in the double knit polyester unies the Cats wore from approximately '74 - '84.  The satiny road unies of '84-85 and '85-86 were purple but did have a lavendar accent stripe.  I've got a home and away set of these uniforms.

Well let's see now . . . I remember quite well that Jack switched to the Purple Tops sometime in the middle of a season, and the reason I remember that is because the numbers on the Purple Tops didn't match the numbers from the Lav's for the entire team, and the announcers for one of K-State's games got all screwed up.

Great uni's the two tones.  It was at this time that Bo Ellis of Marquette designed the uni's that Marquette wore in 77, the season they won the title over UNC.

They were *gasp* untucked! Al Mcguire loved them. So did I.
