Title: We must win against NU
Post by: _33 on February 23, 2011, 02:42:04 PM
If we win tonight we're in the Tournament. If we lose, we're not. Maybe.

Loss = back to bubble (10/11 seed bracketology). Then NEED to beat MU next week. If not I don't think just a win vs. ISU at home will help anything. Big XII tournament we'd have to win 2+ to go dancing.

Win = Me in Devaney. :emawkid:

Every game since the last ISU game has been discussed like this.

"If we beat ISU, we are in, otherwise we are out."

"If we beat KU, we are definitely in.  Punches our ticket."

"If we beat OU, we are in, otherwise we may be out."

I never thought that about any of those games. The only reason I think it about this game is because it's completely true.

I think we can lose tonight and still make the dance.  8-8 with either a win over TX or MU plus the fact the teams around us in the big 12 middle could very easily fall apart down the stretch.

I don't think we get in at 8-8. Don't see why everyone thinks we will. We'll be like 1-7 vs top 50 rpi.

The only game we can "afford" to lose and still have some comfort is @UT. Huggs' season should've taught us that the "this win does it" mentality when you are on the bubble is tenuous at best. When you put ourselves into the position we are in with 3 losses to lower division teams you eliminate room for error, especially against fellow bubble teams like NU.

So yeah, this is probably a must win. Could we sneak in without it? Maybe. But winning both this week puts us in an extremely good position.

Wouldn't beating MU qualify as "stealing one" in the eyes of the selection committee?  They are ranked higher than us and completely destroyed us earlier this season.

Its at home and they aren't that much better than us, so no. MU is maybe more must win than tonight, but I'd put both as must win, if we want to be comfortable in our bubble-ness anyway.

Was hoping you would make fun of me for overstating the importance of tonight's game. I'm so nervous.  :frown:

We can get in at 8-8.

I'd feel a lot better at 9-7.

Why leave it up to the committee when we have the opportunity to punch our own ticket? Win 3 of 4 and we do that.

According to Jerry Palm we could win out (including @UT) and our fate would still be out of our hands, at the mercy of other bubble teams.

(LOL)

Jerry is Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!).  10-6 with wins at TX and against KU and on the bubble.    Pfft.

Jerry is an idiot.  If anyone heard him on 810 last week, he had about 6 teams in the tournament and everyone else on the wrong side of the bubble.  Way too much time in mommy's basement.  (Sorry if that offends anyone).

9-7 is in.  8-8 is wait and see what happens with other teams (and in the tourney, but the other teams part is more important).

if kstate splits, the mu game is better than the nu game.

pomeroy gives kstate a 21% of winning both, 52% chance of a split, 27% chance of losing both.  he was one point off on his illinois state prediction last night.

He's gonna be at least 4 pts off in his prediction tonight, probably more, which will give us ~56% chance of winning both, ~44% chance of splitting AND NOT A SNOWBALLS CHANCE IN HELL OF LOSING BOTH!  :ksu:  :emawkid:  :woot:

Pomeroy assumes that K-State will play the same level of basketball that they have averaged over the course of the season. K-State is finally clicking, and I expect the Cats to outperform Pomeroy's predictions.
