Title: Jake making a push for B12 POY?
Post by: nicname on February 20, 2011, 03:07:38 PM
I think he is.  He is the conferences leading scorer, arguably its best on ball defender and has been incredibly clutch so far down the stretch (yes, I remember CU).  If the award is based solely on conference play he is positioning himself quite well.  He is also most definitely the most valuable player on any team.  Without Jake we would be horrid.

Yeah, it seems with the technical fouls on the Morris twins that have kept coming, people have fallen off the Marcus Morris bandwagon. Even though Markieff is just as responsible, it seems they are just grouped together as thugs. It's okay with me.

This is kind of OT, but with 4 games left in conference play, if we play 3 or more games in the Big 12 tournament and NCAA tournament, he is on track to beat Evans out for most career points at K-State. Do you think this will affect his play from here on out?

Yeah he needs like 150 more points for the record, and there are 4 more regular season games plus at least one Big12 tournament game and one NCAA tournament game, so he definitely has a shot at it especially if we play 3 or more post season games.  Ironically, it may depend on if we get the first round bye for the conference tournament.  If we don't get the bye, we will likely be playing a lesser team in the first round, resulting in a likely win and more game opportunities for Jake.

Good point, Beemz.  I'd say Marcus or Doge end up with it.

I'd say Selby after all that tea-bagging he did to Pullen.

You think you're safely in the tournament if you lose @Nubb, @Texas, and at home to Mizzou?  I don't.

Interesting that the national media is finally shedding light on the thug twins and their national perception has changed so much.  Wonder if you can get a restraining order for during the game?

POY is Hamilton's to lose, if Jake puts up 30 plus in a won in ATX then he has a chance.

KC Star will probably make the McMorans co-POYs irregardless   :kufan:

That has been nice, but it is also important not to get full of yourself, which is why I like when we just take care of the winnable games like tech, @isu, and ku.

What's hilarious is KU lost by 16 points to this so called "NIT bubble team."

Besides the fact that PowercatPat's smack talk is horrible, beems also makes a pretty good point, besides the Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) NIT bubble thing. These awards go to winners. Unless we just about win out with Jake scoring 30 a game the voters won't forget that he was the leader of one of the most disappointing teams of the year.

Hate to say it but without perfection from Jake here on out I don't think he'll be winning the award.  Team record coupled with suspension will make it tough on the voters regardless of how much he is our player of the year.

Not directly related to B12 POY, but gotta say I'm a little surprised by ESPN's NPOW. Williams is a great player no doubt, but I thought Pullen and Moore were more deserving based on last week's performances.

. . . without perfection from Jake here on out I don't think he'll be winning the award . . .

If the 'Cats win on Wednesday night in Lincoln (w/the Beard playing a starring role), I may start to get excited about this "Phoenix" idea that TMC advocates.  It COULD happen, Wednesday will tell us more.  Sorry, but as a 'Cat fan, I'm cautious when firing up my optimism.    :crossfingers:

We'd have to go undefeated the rest of the way for Jake to get POY, but he has put himself back into the conversation to be 1st team All Big 12.

If Jacob earns conf Player of the Wk this week, then JHam, McMor, and JP will have each earned it 3 times.

Kicker...Jacob would have earned them all during conf games.

McMor POW honor in Nov was when he scored 26 pts vs THE Ohio University and ku beat them 98-41; he only had 16 vs Arizona that week.

JHam earned the 1st two POW awards, with only 1 during conf.
