I've got a coyote problem around my home outside of town. I've heard Pat's in Ogden is good. How much will I spend? Thanks

Grand Old Trunk :dunno:

Get yourself a .22-250...
Go with a T/C Venture Predator -
Flat shooting, song dog medicine. MSRP is $549 - street price might be less (by "street price" I mean, whatever gun shop you purchase from).
Gun has 5R rifling in the barrel, tear drop bolt handle, finished in Max-1, and guaranteed to shoot 1-inch groups or better out of the box.
You want something that's going to reach out and touch something...

Tell him I sent you, he'll give you a great deal. eat 'em up eat 'em up ksu.

.30-06 is huge compared to a .22.
Overkill really.
Also, more expensive ammo, kicks like hell compared to .22, and gun doesn't hold as many shots as the .22.

Get an AR-15 in 226. You'll thank me when TSHTF.
-
Probably could get a ruger 1022 for around $100 or less for an older one. It holds 10 rounds and you can get a larger 30 clip. Any gun shop should have one they are pretty popular and work pretty well.

A .22? First day huh? Maybe bury a bamboo pike under some leaves and then hit it with a club when it gets impaled? It would be about as humane/effective.

True story. Rusty Eck (former owner of Rusty Eck Ford in Wichita until his death in 2004) was a big coyote hunter, and on a couple of occasions when I was a kid, my dad caught him hunting coyotes on our land without permission. My dad was pissed beyond belief, and I think that is the last place on earth he would have ever considered buying a car from.

Well, I didn't specifically say that he killed Rusty, but on the other hand, I can't prove that he didn't. :dunno:

a friend of mine... Mr. Finehalls.... yeah.. Mr. Finehalls... tells me you can take an empty 2 ltr bottle and put it over the barrel of a .22 and it will act as a disposable silencer.
I wouldn't EVER try it though because silencers are very illegal.

Did your friend tape it on, and did he have to poke a hole for pressure release? I just want to know so I can tell people what not to do, it being illegal and all.
-
Kansas has one of the best gun laws in Kansas. All you need is a class III Dealer who will order it, the paperwork for the BATFE and 200 dollars for the tax stamp. Second there is no such thing as a silencer, its a suppressor... It's physically impossible to 'silence' anything breaking the sound barrier... If you can, let me know and we'll make a crap ton of money through Government contracts.
-
semantics. :jerk:
The bullet... provides the breathing hole. The "suppressor" only works for 1 maybe two shots. I suppose tape would work, I've heard they actually make thread on kits for some rifles, but I've never researched them. All you really need is the bottle to not fly off, It doesn't need to be air tight. But anything holding it on the barrel works. Word of caution, use safety glasses for the first go around.
-
fyi, the initial explosion causes a loud noise, then the bullet breaking the sound barrier causes a loud sound. Subsonic ammo with a suppressor is the best option. Usually 9mm ammo only. They sound like twigs breaking. Suppressors on larger guns are usually only so that you don't have to wear hearing protection. They're still quite loud.
...anyways...
-
Poison them. :drink: <--- poison coyote drink.

A guy who works for me uses live traps. Catches the crap out of them(per him anyway).
I really don't listen too much when he talks about this stuff. I think he is participating in the annual Tonganoxie Squirrel Scramble this weekend. I could set you guys up if you like. :dunno:
This guy knows how to kill anything that can be eaten or sold.

The main reason silencers are illegal is not the fact they will reduce the noise, but that the silencer will compromise the ballistics imparted from the barrel of the gun to the bullet so an investigation will then not be able match a bullet back to a particular gun barrel once it has been through a silencer. But I doubt a 2 liter bottle would have much effect on something like that.

For that you are going to want a .357 magnum. preferably with a laser grip.
