Title: _FANalysis - A breakdown of the Big 12
Post by: kso_FAN on February 17, 2011, 11:22:31 AM
WARNING: it is a stat's geek entry... (http://goEMAW.com/blog/?p=659) If you don't like/want stats, disregard.

A bunch of different data here, but I made an attempt to make it easier to read with color and sorting. I put in some commentary as well, but I'm sure there is much more to be said. Feel free to discuss, add to, etc. here as necessary.

i'd like to understand what it is about anderson's system or coaching that produces so few turnovers.  especially while playing at a high pace.

shooting early in the shot clock

fast break possessions

?

recruiting good passers and staying away from big men that don't fit in the system???

I think they play really controlled on offense, and yes they take a lot of quick shots.

Yeah, and its not just the last two years, almost every team he has had (MU and UAB) is excellent at TO%.

Considering their big men - Lyons, Carroll, Safford, to name a few - they do seem to have good passing big men.

I would be interested to see the numbers from the TTech game going forward.

every turnover forced that leads to a fast break oppy should be a possessions where TO% is low.

i can understand the logic of that, but it doesn't seem to play out that way.  if you can see any pattern in the data by just eyeballing it, i'd suggest that high to% ds tend to go with higher than normal to% os.

Yeah, its more than that, its systemic. Every Anderson team besides maybe his first at MU has been better than average, most way better than average, at not turning the ball over.  Maybe he should change his mantra to "40 fast minutes with few turnovers".  :ck:

Here are K-State's numbers broken down a couple more ways.

his players put glue on their hands during each time out, super glue.

Wouldn't that lead to lots of traveling violations?  :ck:

no, they have glue on one hand, and solvent on the other.  balances things out at the appropriate times.
