Title: No Onions
Post by: _33 on February 14, 2011, 12:52:58 PM
Why do people order things with no onions? Onions are often times the best part of the things they are ordering.

If red ones and caramelized ones are available, even better.

Because they have Down's. No other logical reason.

For the most part I agree, but onions make your breath stinky. Like, if you have a job interview after lunch, you probably shouldn't have a lot of onions and garlic. Like, the semi-famous UBS dress code forbade employees from eating garlic and/or onions because of the odor:

My solution:

(https://goemaw.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dietsinreview.com%2Fdiet_column%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2009%2F02%2Fextra-gum-polar-ice.jpg&hash=ac518babdffdc98f0dfa4f0037e336cac45e6edc)

But really, how often do you have job interviews or something of that magnitude? This is rarely a legitimate excuse.

stupid thread, stupid question.
like rusty(k) hinted at, whether or not onions are ordered really depends on a lot of different situational factors.

listen guys, i'd love to make this easy for you, i really would.   the reality is that some things in life can't be mapped out with a simple A + B = C.   get a life you stupid losers and bring the cats out tonight, go ksu.

Not psychedelic related.

I'd like to hear of a situation where not ordering onions is the only option and where no practical counter solution exists. Wow, you can't think of one?

Sad, really.

Also, the portabella burgers at So Long are absolutely incredible. Especially with grilled onions.

J-Dub ordered his Wendy's double stacks without onions during our halftime food run on Saturday.  single-handedly made our order take twice as long.

Who cries when they touch onions?  Why?  Were you molested by an onion farmer and still haven't sought therapy?

Good lord glad I don't sit in the same building of all you Smelly McSmellersons.  I can smell an onion eater from at least 3 meters away (that's right I said meters).  Have a guy I work with and he reaks of onions/garlic sometimes fired balogna.  I want to punch him in his smelly face when I smell him coming close to me.  What I guess I'm trying to say is I don't like onions or onioe eaters.  Also don't drink coffee for similar reasons.

yeah. unfortunately i have to talk to people in close range at my work often. this is unfortunate and horrible for me personally, but i try to make it as pleasant for them as possible by not eating onions during lunch and by brushing after i eat lunch. onions stink up so bad that i don't care how long you brush, you're really not 100% getting rid of it. only option is no onions. go cats. ftb.

For the close-talkers who hate onion breath: What if you are making a burger at home or ordering a burger and taking it home and will not be sticking your nose inside other people's mouths to talk to them for the rest of the day? Onions?

Order w/ onions if you are dining in.
If you are bringing that garbage back to the office you better order w/ no onions.

No, the question was why would anyone ever order something with no onions. The obvious answer for any non-Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) is if you are in a situation where the odor is a problem. I'll always take onions any other time.

I rarely order pizza topping-by-topping (it's usually cheaper and always easier). However, I will never decline onions if it is part of a supreme/deluxe pizza. I don't go out for pizza for lunch, (because I am not in junior high), so it's never really an issue.

Some people, after eating garlic will secrete that smell through their pores.  Heather Locklear (sp) I believe was one of these people.  My wife also has that problem.  I always know when she has eaten something with galic on it.

GARLIC CAN LEAK THROUGH YOUR PORES

YES!

When a Garlic cell is broken by chopping, chewing, or crushing, enzymes stored in the cell trigger the breakdown of several compounds containing sulfur (such as Diallyl Sulfide and Allicin)  which are responsible for the sharp taste and strong smell of garlic.

It's kind of crazy that we love to eat Garlic cloves considering the compounds found in this plant are believed to have evolved as a defense mechanism deterring animals from ingesting the plant.

When eaten in large quantities, garlic may be strongly evident in your sweat and breath the following day. This is because garlic's strong smelling sulfur compounds are metabolized forming allyl methyl sulfide. AMS cannot be digested and is passed into the blood. It is carried to the lungs and the skin where it is excreted. Since digestion takes several hours, and release of AMS several hours more, the effect of eating garlic may be present for a long time.

it means onions aren't the dominant flavor, they help bring out everything else.  they are the enhancer.  also, it's about the texture, similar to why you put iceberg lettuce on a samich for crunch.
