Seems like he is just hitting that point where he doesn't care if he screws up and Frank yells at him. He's just gonna go out and kick as much ass as he can. That may not be a lot of ass, but it's something.
McGruder is still the best player on this team. Wish he was at the same point mentally as JHR.

McGruder is still the best player on this team.
so dumb
I can't imagine how bad his efficiency numbers would be if you removed Jake from this team. Not sure he would ever get a good look that wasn't off of an offensive rebound.

WTF are you talking about? It's this new "motion offense" that has completely stunted McOReb's offensive production. I'm not agreeing that he's the best player on the team, but saying he'd be terrible without Jake is just Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!).
-
JHR has some really seemingly bad brainfarts from time to time, but I wonder how many of those are just his body betraying him. It's obvious that his frame is keeping him from maximizing his potential, he just looks weak and goofy as hell out there despite his effort. Thing is though, a lot of our bigs lack/have lacked explosiveness. JamSam and CK are the only ones who have shown flashes of it. Judge and 'Sprilla were both weak. Maybe this is on our assistants and/or S&C coaches? I dunno. Would love to hear from HBBIQ types on this.
-
had a couple bad plays back to back. He let a couple little shits drive under him...needs to block/change shot on those.

How has his production been stunted when he is more productive than he has ever been in his career? He has scored at or over his average 8 times since January 5th, he did it 6 times before that.
He doesn't handle the ball well enough to create his own shot. Not sure what you people have been watching but he's always been a jump shooter that relies on Jake penetrating with the ball
Here are numbers from his 5 highest point totals this season
24 points against UMKC 7-10 from the 3 point line
19 points against OSU 3-6 from the 3 point line
17 points against Emporia State 3-6 from the 3 point line
16 points against Texas Tech 4-5 from the 3 point line
15 points against KU, Savannah St., and Washington St. he hit 3 three point shots against KU and Savannah and 5 against Washington St.
The UNLV and Oklahoma State games are the only games this season where he made more than 3 two point FGs, he had 5 and 4 respectively. He has only had 6 games in which he has made more than 2 two point FGs.
I would bet that at least 50% of Jake's assists are to Rodney with his feet set. I love Rodney and eff you guys for making me say anything remotely negative about him but he is a standing jump shooter.

jhr played fine. liked him today.
agree with mir on mcgruder. he's our knutson (but as a bouncy, silky soph, not as a sr), and i love him.

I was close to slipping into SD-hate mode when he got blocked by that goofy-ass frosh that CU has. That was inexplicable.
-
Of course McG is just a rough ridin' jumpshooter. Hint: it's ok to have those on your team. We don't need him to create his own shot. We need a guard who can break a defense down and create shots for others (like McG).

a skinny, long seven-foot post blocking a skinny, long seven-foot post cannot be explained?

JHR should know how to embarrass a freshman who is presumably much less athletic than him. That's how I viewed it.

you and chum1 have a weird thing going tonight were you pick an argument and then your argument is the exact same thing as the argument of the poster you're arguing with.
chum1 likes that kind of humor. i dunno what you're getting out of it.

Serious question. Are you a fuckin' idiot? I said Rodney would be much less efficient without Jake relieving pressure off of him and you had a seizure disagreeing with me? Jake IS the guard breaking down defenses creating for Rodney's shot. That's what I rough ridin' said Lacey. Goddamn

Ok. It's just me getting frustrated that my projections of how things should work with him didn't work out on that play. You're right.

One problem: Jake isn't good at creating shots for others. He's ok at creating shots for himself, but he'll never be mistaken for a great distributor.
Weren't McG's best games during Jake's suspension?

He's the best on this team, by a long long long way. You aren't playing devils advocate, you're just obtuse.
As already pointed out, out of Rodney's 7 highest scoring game, one his best one came while Jake was gone. He hit 7 three pointers against UMKC.
-

= tallest midget. There ARE no good distributors on this team. Maybe Angel will be one next year, but I don't think we can be much worse at breaking down defenses to get open looks for our shooters.

HOLY eff KOUGAR :goodbyecruelworld: Of goddamn course that's the issue, once again no one has claimed the alternative. Even the rough ridin' idiots like ednksu knows there are no point guards on this team. Go to bed man.

So, if your whole point was that Pullen is the "best player" on the team as opposed to McG, I'm ok with that. If it was that McG will struggle next year without Pullen, I disagree.
That better?

Much better, and for the record I don't think Rodney will be horrible next year. His role will be different, and he will get better with the ball.

-
Pullen's asst. rate is better than Denis' the last two seasons.
-

Pullen is much less selfish about going to the rim this year and I think that is coloring people's perceptions. He passes out when appropriate. Considering his 3 point shooting, it is the best part of his game right now.
-
Anyone see that play where JHR dunked on bitches, post foul call on Pullen?
-
bitches were takin' cover. :runaway:

Yes!

Wish JHR could finish more than 30% of the time. dood sucks at making bunny layups. seems like he gets too sped up in games. hopefully he learns to slow himself down and make easy plays. i think he can actually be pretty good. he seems to be a developing into a decent rebounder. also, he's awesome at swatting shots out of bounds
also, ANY TIME he get switched on a guard (which should never happen imo), the referees mouths start watering, just waiting for said guard to bump into JHR so he can call JHR for a foul

Seems like the game has slowed down somewhat for him, or he is just gaining confidence lately. Maybe Wally and Freddy leaving caused this...
As you said, still misses too many short shots, but has made a couple back to the basket moves on the block lately that were very surprising - he didn't just dribble into a crowd. Guards always get into his chest though, which makes him foul prone.

There is so much truth to this. And it doesn't just apply to Jordan. Jake, McG and Sprads are basically the only starters who ever have their eyes on the hoop when they toss one up. Sometimes Curt but he actually has touch. The junk chunkin that everyone else does is getting to be really confusing.
-
I'm ready to concede that Jake is the best player, but my main point was emphasized tonight. JHR has moved to a different level than he was at 4 games ago. This is huge.
My point about McGruder was that I hoped he would step it up to another level and be aggressive just like JHR. He has not done that yet. But when Jake plays like he did tonight Rod doesn't need to.

Yeah huge leap forward for Jordan. There will still be ups and downs but that was awesome. Loved his two post moves, the face-up in the lane, and the (relatively) sticky hands and presence of mind on the catch and dunk from Jake. Was aggressive and well-positioned most of the night. Just a great game from him. Someday he'll figure out how/when to foul.
-
JHR put me in my place tonight. Mizzou and KU just can't stop that guy.
-
Can we just call him Henrique-Iglesias now?
-
I take back all the mean things I said about you JHR.
-
I wish he could finish like this every night. Great game.
-
JHR, I still have your back.
-
it appears he is learning how to use the glass to finish.
I am very happy with his overall development this year.
-
What is the biggest change since January? JHR! :ck:

Might as well own it.

JHR should know how to embarrass a freshman who is presumably much less athletic than him. That's how I viewed it.
The thing that I'm noticing is that JHR is only an effective player against certain teams (i.e. Missouri). Otherwise, he's basically a liability on the floor. I mean, this can happen with multiple players on different teams. Sean May of UNC almost always had bad games against the bigs from Boston College like 5 years ago. Does Frank not know that JHR is a situational player at best? I'm more perplexed about this than I am about his choice in PG rotation.
JHR played really hard today and that's why Frank left him in. He also is one of the few guys that can match-up length-wise with Baylor.
Don't know why Judge isn't playing, or Russell. But their decrease in PT seems to be tied together somehow, but maybe not. Just a weird deal with those two.
You can play hard all you want and still be a liability. That's what JHR was tonight, basically. That's why I don't get why Frank leaves him out there. And yeah, I think everyone on this board is wondering WTF is up with Judge.
JHR was far from terrible tonight. Not great, maybe not even good, but he wasn't terrible.
I'll give him credit for being able to get down low and occasionally force some hacks by BU. His positioning isn't bad, and he sometimes plays with a decent BBIQ. But his post moves are so weak that he'll get blasted by the really good teams in the conference. That's why it's frustrating to see him out there when Wally could potentially get his crap together and tear it up. But, who knows, 5 stars do bust every once in a while :dunno:
Someone has to play when Kelly is in foul trouble or Frank gets ticked enough to pull him. If its Wally great, but right now its JHR.
Hey, I want Wally to play and be good as much as the next guy, but its not like Frank hasn't went out of his way to give him every opportunity. For now, if JHR can give a few solid minutes when Kelly is being dumb, so be it.
Fair enough. But goddamn if he isn't frustrating to watch. Seeing all of these weak post moves by players other than Kelly have started to grate on me. It reminds me of how bad I am at posting up despite the fact that I'm built like an o-lineman.
