I recently purchased a Canon 7D and now my old 20D is just sitting on the shelf collecting dust. I thought I would keep it as a back up, but I've recently decided that I will never use it and I'd rather tinker with it. I'm seriously considering converting it to a IR camera (Infrared), bu people charge $200 - $400 to do it for you and I'm considering the DIY route. I found a great tutorial for anyone interested. (http://www.lifepixel.com/ir-tutorials/canon-20d-digital-infrared-conversion-instructions.htm)
I'm working up the courage and may order the IR filter within the next week or so. I will post updates as well as any shots I get if successful.
For anyone curious about what Infrared photography is (http://www.google.com/images?pws=0&q=Infrared+Photography&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi&biw=1280&bih=800)

that 7D is pretty much the tits minus the 5D mark II which has full frame capability but of course you know that. great video corder thingy too.

I've only had it for about 2 weeks and it's rough ridin' awesome. Really digging the wireless flash capabilities with my Canon slave capable Flashes. I thought about full frame and decided it wasn't worth it for me. I don't have any L lenses & all my glass would look like crap on a full frame body. The smaller sensor is only utilizing the sweet spots of my lens collection so the only real things I think I would like in the 5D is for better video capabilities & the ISO bump. I know some guys that had trouble with the 7D's overheating with extended video shooting, but I don't think that's anything I'll get into. I'm happy regardless.

are you in kc? do you already have all the glass you plan on getting? there's a place off sw blvd that rents them by the day if you need to test out the capabilities of your new beast.

Sheesh. Converting a 20D to infrared? I'm jealous.
Feeling the itch for a new DSLR myself.

Wichita; But a trip north may be worth it as I've been considering some Tamron or Tokina glass but didn't want to end up turning around & selling lenses if I'm not happy with them.

Update:
Just finished surgery & I think the 20D is going to pull out of it okay. It was touch and go there a few times, and I had to go back in twice to make sure ribbons were tightly connected, but she's up - fully charged - and shooting. I didn't replace the filter with anything, so the focus will have to be manually adjusted, and right now, the full spectrum of light is being exposed. I've decided the cheapest way to do IR photography is to buy a lens mounted visible spectrum & UV light filter. I can't wait for daylight to try out some skylines / landscapes / etc. Right now, everything in my basement is pretty boring looking as a full spectrum photo.

Noticed okcat hasn't posted in this thread. Guess wedding photogs must use super elite camaras?

Looking to upgrade from a fairly nice point and shoot to a DSLR. Recs would be welcome. As of now, considering a Nikon D3100.
